Just wanted to voice my great support for having a sarcastic bastard pick on the dialogue wheel in  DA3, as Snarky Hawke used to rotate between making me grin, and making me want to punch his smug face through the screen which was in my opinion great entertainment.

I dont know who it is on Bioware that is the sarcastic buttock that wrote the lines, but i love you man.

The great/awful thing about Sarcastic Hawke was that his/her lines were occasionally so inappropriate and groan inducing, it was surreal. People who are legitimately upset about missing or dead spouses, children, or siblings are confiding in this person, and Hawke feels the need to crack jokes. It borders on "this character is insane"...which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if people enjoy playing that way. I just would hope that the other personality types are more subtle, if Sarcastic/Charismatic Player Character is completely wacky.

I agree and would not be opposed to more snark in the games.

I support a Renegade interrupt "Punch" for NPCs of Snark Characters.

Making the protagonist too like Hawke - or Shepard - would be a mistake, I think. They need to be distinct, which means their sense of humour should be different - maybe more dry and deadpan, rather than silly?

But what about the Orlesian Ministry of Silly Walks?

Dang, can't edit on my phone. I meant to add:
"I was hoping our protaginist could be a former Minister as one of the Origins."

I loved potentially being the funniest one in the party for a change instead of letting the companions get all the good lines like in DAO.

And Snarky Hawke was only inappropriate if you played wack-a-mole on Sarcasm options whenever they appeared. The great thing about DA2 is that you could take other conversational choices and it still would reflect your overall personality. My Hawke was both funny and pretty sensitive about tough moments. Which made scenes like his mother passing away particularly well done and insightful.

I wouldn't mind bioware exploring another avenue of humor other than snarky for the next protagonist. I suggest pacifist and action hero.

But all my favorite action heroes are snarky! As for pacifists, well I hear Ghandi was a master of the zinger.

I love being snarky - as I'm sure that many, many people in certain threads can attest to. I agree with Jack that it's nice to get to be the good lines on occasion instead of being the straight man.

Thanks for the link to that vid, I needed that laugh.

And yes, snarkyHawke is by far the best. This moment would be in my top five. Just reminds me so much of my own relationship with siblings.

I hate sarcastic Hawke. He just doesn't take anything seriously.

The Viscount cradeling the still warm corpse of his son in his arms says "hello."

I don't remember any auto-dialogue of snarky-Hawke being inappropriate. I remember some choices that were inappropriate (like the one with after the death of Seamus with the Viscount) but you don't have to choose. I always use some diplomatic and aggressive lines with my snakry Hawke. You have the option to make a snarky-Hawke who is serious in certain situations.

Part of why its so fun, partly because he gets to be an **** with a smile.

Like when Isabella returns with the book she stole from the big goat guy (cant remember the name).
You can then turn her in to keep a bloodbath from happening, and she will say "Damn you Hawke, i came to help you!"
Choosing sarcasm will make Hawke smile and say "You ARE helping."

I just found that to be so incredibly smug, and amusing.

Nope his autodialogue was fine. If your Hawke said something inappropriate to the Viscount when his son died, its because you chose to click on the 'say something sarcastic' button. It was completely the player's call to say something insensitive at that moment.

The only time I choose the sarcastic option is when I don't like any of the other options. Sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't. Most of the time it feels really forced and not funny.

Never liked her anyways.
