Omg you turned in Isabela? I didn't know people like that actually existed.

/silently judging

If the option is out there to be an arse, there are some people who will take it. Just the way of things.

However the fun part of that one, is that Isabela frees herself shortly after, steals the book a second time and heads off to the sunset.

Gotta love Isabela.Posted Image

Meh, I find the "funny" icon to be seriously forced and sounds awful most of the time. Renegade Shepard is 100x more funnier than Hawke.

I hate sarcastic Hawke. He just doesn't take anything seriously.

Part of why its so fun, partly because he gets to be an **** with a smile.

Like when Isabella returns with the book she stole from the big goat guy (cant remember the name).
You can then turn her in to keep a bloodbath from happening, and she will say "Damn you Hawke, i came to help you!"
Choosing sarcasm will make Hawke smile and say "You ARE helping."

I just found that to be so incredibly smug, and amusing.

What about turning Fenris into his old slave master?

At that point, I'm past judging and more wondering if you have a soul.

I did that in the playthrough I just completed because I hadn't gotten the Arcane Defender achievement yet.

The great/awful thing about Sarcastic Hawke was that his/her lines were occasionally so inappropriate and groan inducing, it was surreal. People who are legitimately upset about missing or dead spouses, children, or siblings are confiding in this person, and Hawke feels the need to crack jokes. It borders on "this character is insane"...which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if people enjoy playing that way. I just would hope that the other personality types are more subtle, if Sarcastic/Charismatic Player Character is completely wacky.

Many people use humor to cope with unfortunate and/or stressful moments. It's actually pretty easy to roleplay a snarky character as someone who's simply trying to hide from his crappy reality.

Hawke even says as much when you talk to Aveline after All That Remains.

I don't really blame you there. He was pretty far gone at the end of the game.

But handing over companions to be imprisoned or enslaved...  just doesn't sit right with me.

I thought you could kill Anders and still be with the mages?

You can. I'm pretty sure op meant in spite of Anders, or as an act of revenge

I loved potentially being the funniest one in the party for a change instead of letting the companions get all the good lines like in DAO.

And Snarky Hawke was only inappropriate if you played wack-a-mole on Sarcasm options whenever they appeared. The great thing about DA2 is that you could take other conversational choices and it still would reflect your overall personality. My Hawke was both funny and pretty sensitive about tough moments. Which made scenes like his mother passing away particularly well done and insightful.

I love the different types of characters you can play when you have an underlining personality. My current hawke is not a snarky but bloodthirsty. Kills first and never avoids a fight  it is great. The good thing about the personlity is that it is also noticed in the game as in Dragon age Origins they couldn't tell what type of character i was. Well they could only according to the choices i made which i thought was a bit limiting in dragon age 2 my personality is reflected and so the world around me also reacts according to my personality.

Of course DA3 will have this. Sarcastic Hawke is the best feature of DA2, along with Varric.

If I play an inquisitor, I want to force information out of people by subjecting them to a barrage of puns and one-liners.

In fact, I think snarky characters should get a speical "Pun" icon.   Upon pressing the icon, the PC utters a pun of such groan inducing inanity that the target's mind implodes.

If we can have a snarky main character, can the lines be voice acted in a serious, deadpan way like Morrigan or Sten from DA:O? Not a cheerful, silly, dunder-headed way like Hawke from DA2? I'd like to be able to be snarky and intimidate people at the same time. (Not like Hawke, where most sarcastic lines were met with a "Who the **** let this bozo in?" reaction.)

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to take out that kind of dialogue, but to give the choices a bit more range, for when you don't want to try to cut the tension with that guy who is holding his dead son with silly puns, but you also don't want to brusquely chastise him for not being more attentive to his kid by choosing the Aggressive dialogue, for example.

Basically, extremes can be funny/fun to roleplay, but sometimes you do want to play a character who is a bit more balanced.

I don't remember any auto-dialogue of snarky-Hawke being inappropriate. I remember some choices that were inappropriate (like the one with after the death of Seamus with the Viscount) but you don't have to choose. I always use some diplomatic and aggressive lines with my snakry Hawke. You have the option to make a snarky-Hawke who is serious in certain situations.

This is so how I would play not even kidding. I'm generally sarcastic in rea life. But not really in a mean way. Also I know when to be serious and treat things with care.
