The great/awful thing about Sarcastic Hawke was that his/her lines were occasionally so inappropriate and groan inducing, it was surreal. People who are legitimately upset about missing or dead spouses, children, or siblings are confiding in this person, and Hawke feels the need to crack jokes. It borders on "this character is insane"...which isn't necessarily a bad thing, if people enjoy playing that way. I just would hope that the other personality types are more subtle, if Sarcastic/Charismatic Player Character is completely wacky.

Many people use humor to cope with unfortunate and/or stressful moments. It's actually pretty easy to roleplay a snarky character as someone who's simply trying to hide from his crappy reality.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to take out that kind of dialogue, but to give the choices a bit more range, for when you don't want to try to cut the tension with that guy who is holding his dead son with silly puns, but you also don't want to brusquely chastise him for not being more attentive to his kid by choosing the Aggressive dialogue, for example.

Basically, extremes can be funny/fun to roleplay, but sometimes you do want to play a character who is a bit more balanced.

Also this. I am pretty much like that. I use humor to cope with a great many things. I think  I know how to keep it appropriate though.

Bioware's pretty much hammered snarky into the ground. But I'm sure snarky is what you'll get.

If I play an inquisitor, I want to force information out of people by subjecting them to a barrage of puns and one-liners.

Hmm...sounds like your typical Schwarzenneger film? I like it.

If we can have a snarky main character, can the lines be voice acted in a serious, deadpan way like Morrigan or Sten from DA:O? Not a cheerful, silly, dunder-headed way like Hawke from DA2? I'd like to be able to be snarky and intimidate people at the same time. (Not like Hawke, where most sarcastic lines were met with a "Who the **** let this bozo in?" reaction.)

The reactions to Hawke's inappropriate wisecracking were my favorite thing about it. For example

"I do not joke, serah."
and then a second later the woman is laughing about Hawke's prodding as to whether or not Anders has "nice eyes and a killer smile"
See? Sometimes it works. [and it always works with Varric]

and then
Hawke: Recognize your mage? [hands over bag of bones]
Bethany: You're horrible

Questgiver: So they're dead, then?
Hawke: I should hope so. Or you'll have to worry about boneless women flopping through the streets
Questgiver: Show some respect >:[

And then with Aveline~
Hawke: You should try marigolds again. In hindsight they weren't the worst option
Aveline: Not funny
Hawke: I beg to differ

or
Aveline: I never asked to be made the butt of your jokes
Hawke: Donnic.

Seriously I could write an essay about how much I love SnarkyHawke but instead I think I'll gush in this thread
