One thing about DA world is the weapons don't look realistic and cartoony, so how about DA:I have a realistic weapon instead like below (sword only though)

real medieval Templar Sword design

real medieval Claymore design

And since we are going to Orlais, i would like to see Rapier, "one for all, all for one!"

All weapons in Dragon Age so far(except Staves) are based off real weapons. I do approve of having a rapier added though.

I prefer the thicker weapons, actually, like the Starfang model.

i don't think so...two handed sword is too big, while real two handed sword is not that big, Templar sword in DA2 have exaggerated look with "axe"-like thingy, default generic sword don't look real at all at it's handle and arm guard, Ageless type also not realistic. Qunari sword also not realistic

the only that look realistic is Cousland Sword type and Summersword (except that it's too big)

I prefer the thicker weapons, actually, like the Starfang model.

Starfang is ok, just the arm guard look funny though

The 2 handed swords in some cases might be a bit oversized but their weapon speed is actually more realistic than in other RPGs where they seem to think 2 handed swords are slow to swing. They actually aren't that hard to swing fast. It'll just tire you out more if you try to stop the swing early since it has more mass than a regular sword. So in most cases those using 2 handed swords have a widers swing due to this.

Two handed swords are way to wide but it's not a deal breaker for me just a preferance. I guess the width of the sword makes it different than the one handed swords. I still hope they fix that design to a narrower one.

Except they're vastly larger than real weapons.

I'd like weapons of realistic size.

Gandalf isn't human:whistle:.
And I'd carry and elfic sword everyhere, even if I don't use it. It's always better to know if you're going to meet orcs.

Yes it did.  That wasn't acceptable, either.

NWN had appropriately sized weapons.  I'd like to see that again.

Not me. I LIKE the stylized, large weapons. I like to be able to see a real visual difference in the awesome, magical, ancient gear I am picking up. It should LOOK ancient and powerful.

However, I don't want it to go too far that way. I'm not looking for FF7-style, mountain-sized swords.

Just unique and not-necessarily-realistic weapons. I care less about realism than I do about "coolness factor". I would say in that regard, DA2 hit it pretty darn close to the mark for me.

As far as the weapons go, I don't mind. But I hated (yes HATED) how the combat looked in DA2. It was so anime-stylish, it just put me off (even tough I like crazy anime fights in general.)

In a magical kingdom where mages can burn you to death with just a thought. Realism is not exactly what I'm looking for in a fantasy video games. I like how the weapons don't follow the law of physics. They allow the designers to make distintive look for the weapons that otherwise wouldn't be practical in combat situation. As bad as some of the weapons are, they're no where near the ridiculousness of Final Fantasy's weapons.

Oh, I see now. Well, I like it. To hell with realism. I like the stylistic options in my fantasy games.

What about the knives? Because I thought Sting looked particularly realistic when it glowed blue. ^_^

I kind of figured that out when I saw skeletons rising to attack, dragons flying through the air, and mages violating the laws of physics. I find that I am ok with this.

Concessions have to be made. I think too many were made with DA2.

If someone has to bring the word realism in a conversation about fictional weaponry we may as well start talking about the entire fantasy genre altogether.

Won't someone please think of the poor blacksmiths??
