Umm, its not about being prudish.

I have said earlier, Nudity in the sex scenes would be fine by me, even if it was graphic - fine, because its contextually appropriate to the scene.

That said, I don't ever want to see characters walking around the world fighting in a sexy loincloth or with a dangerous boob enlarging chestpiece, or a unprotected male chest. Why?

Because it breaks immersion, it feels dumb and not centered to the point about why these characters are dressed as such.

Your definition of contextually appropriate seems quite restrictive - graphic nudity is OK during sex scenes but skimpy clothing is not OK for a character who would perfectly reasonably in the DA setting use his or her body as a tool (eg. Isabela)?

Why not? It's not appropriate for all characters to wear heavy armour as it restricts flexibility. Why wouldn't a rogue or mage wear skimpy clothing as a distraction technique? Hypothetically speaking.

Because it breaks immersion, it feels dumb and not centered to the point about why these characters are dressed as such.

It's not a fashion show, the story shouldn't be about why the characters are dressed in a certain way...

If isabella was dressed the way she does in non-combat and in private, I would have no problem. But contextually, her outfit in combat, even for a rogue, is absolutely absurd.

Please don't try to twist my argument of context, it's quite clear if you put common sense into it.

I never said they had to wear heavy armor. I said in the quote I don't like boob shaped heavy armor either,(no skin is being shown, but its still well known that that armor is unrealistic and VERY dangerous for females as their chest bones can easily be cracked upon falling). I am addressing all types of armor here

having different armor weights is fine, but if the armor is putting sexual appearence above practicality, there is a big problem.

Your right it isn't a fashion show, which is why the characters need to be dressed in a  contextually appropriate manner, instead of trying to appeal to base attraction or other shallow cop-out character development. like "oh she is the sexy character that players can gawp at" - seriously, it's degrading to the medium, games have got to grow up for real.

Why?  Varric doesn't wear armour, and Rogue Hawke doesn't have to.

Fenris doesn't really carry anything beyond steel bracers and a breastplate either.

Correct. Varric has even more chest area exposed than Isabela (belive it or not).

The solution, though, is pretty simple. If nudity offends, even the few seconds of it you get in ME and DA, games rate M for mature might not be for you.

Please refrain from employing such inappropriate words. I am offended by breasts. And plates.

Well then everything checks out! No one in Dragon Age wore a loin cloth, or a boob-enlarging chestpiece (whatever that is), and the males made sure to protect their chests with things like armor, spells, magical potions/injury kits, evasive maneuvers, deadly weapons, and being a ficticious character that can't die anyway.

I sure am glad we got that all cleared up.

p.s. You know what really breaks immersion? Over-analyzing your game.

ba-dum-tish

But also, Fenris can phase through solid objects.  weapons probably don't intimidate him as much as it would an ordinary person.

Using that logic, Isabela is drunk all the time. Weapons probably don't intimidate her either.

I get the whole skimpy women, thing (though to be honest, I never changed Morrigan's outfit because it was both incredibly nice to look at and really fitting for her character)...

But, uh. Au contraire...
I would totally not mind more of this form fitting robes on the boys... And I would probably play forever if it had:

So shoot me, call me an exploitative jerk, but I support more opportunities for male beauty and guy oogling. Excuse me for my sexuality.

(Also, I'm a giant derp for impractical costuming... I like that kind of fantasy fashion design)

I have to agree though, Miranda's bum bothered the hell out of me. Probably because Miranda bothered the hell out of me. I spent a lot of my first play through trying to figure out how to get her killed.

Counterpoint:  Oghren is drunk all the time too, and he wears plate armor :P

But the pont being, there's a time and a place for flashing skin and showing off how hot a character is.  Romance scenes being the most obvious.

Fights fro your life are a lot lower on the list of appropriate places.  Unless you're willing to take "chicks dig scars" to a whole new level...;)

Well, let's talk realistically then.

In real life, I wear skirts and makeup and dress myself up "sexy". I wear off-the-shoulder shirts, and form-fitting clothes. Sometimes I don't even wear a bra, but instead layer tank tops with cute tee shirts. I don't wear bullet proof vests or steel-toed boots.

But I also carry mace (pepperspray), a knife, and a gun. If someone were to assault me, you better believe I'm ready to fight for my life. And my fashion has little to do with it. Should I really have to walk around in kevlar all the time?

I am just surprised at this. Everyone wants a fantasy world, but when it comes to fantasy clothing - people want realistic or practical clothing. Not to mention that this is definitely a VAST minority, because as any businessman would tell you - "sex sells". So making realistic armors in fantasy setting doesn't make much sens neither from setting point, nor from the financial point.

I always rather have chainmail bikiny then some of the armors we had in previous games - especially DA:origins had terrible armors, and i rather won't comment on mages cond... i mean hats.

All the time?  Of course not.

But if you're going into a situation where you know there's a high chance you'll be assaulted (like, say, when you're storming a serial killer's home, attacking an enemy force, or hunting a dangerous predator ) you will want to wear something that will mitigate the odds of serious injury and death.

Yep.

In fact, last year I was jumped at a movie theater. My assailant didn't get far, however. When he got me down on the ground, I punched him in the mouth, maced him in the eyes, stood up, and phoned the police while he was rolling around on the ground. I had some mace in my eyes too, but managed to shield myself from most of the spray's kickback. Hurt like a b*tch, but I wasn't the one rolling around on the ground.

Yep. That guy went to jail.

He thought he could f*ck with me, but he was wrong.

p.s. Interesting side note: when you're being attacked, everything slows down around you and you feel absolutely no pain.

^This, except the sexuality part. I am personally straight, but weirdly love to doll up my own male character. :D
So more male beauty!

I feel like I'm being pandered to as if I am the biggest basement dwelling, socially challenged, internet fiend piece of crap whenever I see a game that puts skimpy characters into the cast.

This is even worse when the game makes an effort to put voyueristic shots of these characters into the game. Like Miranda's absurd bum shots - seriously what the hell?

DA2, at least, had some very practical armor sets for people like Femhawke and Aveline, if this extends to all of the characters in the next game I will be VERY pleased.

Here's my solution:

If the game manages to NOT embarass the player whenever a non-gamer sees them playing around those characters, then you probably have done a decent enough job.

Obviously sex scenes and other contextually appropriate moments could have nudity or underwear or whatever, but those are easily explained, rather then pandering towards notions of player pervesity.

P.S. you all might say "but miranda and isabella's design suited their character! so its okay" - oh yeah? then bite me, there is no reason the character design couldn't reflect their characters without being skimpy and impractical.

In closing, I think my point is that we have all grown up since the old days and we'd like to see that reflected in DA3.

I personally don't agree ANYTHING you said.

I liked everything you seem to not character design outfits and to including the way they shot Miranda and every other shot you didn't like. .

It amazes me how people pick on stuff like this and romances and then blame it  on imaturity and the fact that people  need to "get a real life" and all the other high and mighty staements  people dispense. .  If you want to dismiss me  for my opion becase of that kind of attitiude oh well.

.I personally think Bioware should emulate Witcher 2 Enhanced . If everyone had bulky armor or looked like a volus i would not even buy the game like i would not wasted any time or money on skyrim after researching it Yet are some people on here that want to turn this into pieces of crap game like Skyrim.

There are so many instances in DAO and DA2 when the protag is jumped/ambushed out of nowhere.

edit: I also carry a sword. kidding.

Also - who wants to see Oghren in Isabela's outfit? ew. Keep the plate armor - lol.

And yet Isabela still forgets to pack a pair of pants when visiting the Deep Roads

At any rate, it appears (to me) less jarring to see a character wearing something that looks at least moderately protective in "day to day" situations than someone wearing casual clothes in what looks like a warzone.

And I fully believe armor can look both attractive and protective.  Sexiness isn't all about showing skin.  Shape and form factor into things just as much.  Heck Cassandra looked quite attractive and she was in full armor in every scene she appeared in DA2.

edit: I also carry a sword. kidding.
