With the running and the jumping and the dodging and the slashing and the MAAAAGIIICC!!
I mean KOA was just as much an RPG as Dragon Age if a bit more towards Diablo style loot collection...

Yay or nay?

As much as I want to jump in video games, I want Dragon age 3 to keep its gameplay style.

What exactly would we lose by going in that direction? Less emphasis on stats on more on skill?

We would lose combat being determined by character skill.

I wanted DA2 to keep the system from DAO. I loathe the gameplay in DA2.

Yes.

I think it's a great idea and the natural next step if Dragon Age wants to have visceral, in-your-face combat.

Don't see why not Amalur's combat was pretty much a better DA2.

Just don't expect this idea to get much support around here.

KoA actually did a very good job with an action combat system, while DA2 did a ******-poor hybrid system.

Yes.

That'd be fun, as long as it's optional. A lot of DA fans prefer tactical combat. I like the KOA style, myself, but I don't mind being an advocate for the hardcore tactical crowd.

yeah, they need to step it up a bit. Maybe take some direction from god of war series or bayonetta

No one should take direction from Bayonetta. On anything. For any reason. Ever. Period.

If Bio's going to go full blown action then they should copy Dragon's Dogma's combat system while keeping their own companion tactics.

I'd love to see it. The Combat was the best part of that game, although it seemed mostly borrowed from God of War. It would be a significant improvement over the simple but fun hack-and-slash of DA2 and a huge improvement over the horrible mess of DAO. My only real complaint is that I'm not sure how it would work in a party system, which I'd like to keep.

However, don't expect this to get much support on the BSN. Many people here are operating under the belief that learning combat mechanics from action games that are devoted to delivering the best combat possible is somehow sacrilege. They consider a game to not be a "True Rpg" unless the combat is slow and clunky. Origins failed miserably at being tactical and 2 went for a smoother, more actiony approach. If you can't make the combat tactical, I don't see a reason not to make gameplay better as an action game other than trying to figure out how party members would work.

Remember that Mass Effect's combat was far better when it stopped trying to be a shooter-rpg hybrid and became a shooter with RPG elements.

Yes.
If they're going to keep DA2 style of combat, may as well take notes from a game that did it pretty well.

Companions and control over them in combat would be the main thing. Companions in KoA were both temporary and useless.

No, because then it no longer depends on the character's skill, but the gamer's skill. DA2 is far as I wish to go in that department.. If my character does not have the Archery skill or sucks at it, gamer skill should not be able to compensate for that lack.

They were also pretty useless in the more action-oriented Jade Empire. I suppose the best system would be to bring companions up to the power level of the PC and allow free switching between them.

Sure. It might make the game less boring...

Who am I kidding? Dragon Age is always boring. Oh, did I just say that out loud? Whoops.

Imagine doing that to an Ogre in Dragon Age 3?

Positively mouth watering. It's a fantastic place to look at if you want to improve and lead classic RPG combat away from the Dark Ages.

That could be interesting, and offer up some nice variability in combat.

As for taking queues from Bayonetta....I know DA isn't a series based in reality, and I certainly don't play it for realistic combat, but that's just a bit too fantastic and over the top imo.

I'd be good with whatever, although KOA's fighting style does look fun!
