Hello there everyone. After seeing what Bioware had done to ME3, I thought about what makes a story good. I'm currently taking courses that deal with writing and literature and I've notice how much I enjoy writing. So I decided to write out four outlines for Mass Effect. Each one deals with a specific topic: One for the entire trilogy, one for the Reaper's background, one for romantic outcomes, and-my personal favorite- one for alternative endings. I've tried to keep them as simple as possible, so that readers can follow along with my intentions. Now, without further ado, I give you all my version of the ME trilogy! Complete with backgrounds, consequences, revised and better roles for established characters, and more!
Enjoy!

The Reaper's Background
A billion years ago, there was a sea-dwelling race known as the Leviathans. These massive shellfish-like giants, that wielded the power to manipulate the very concept of mass and the minds of lesser beings, were the first to traverse the Milky Way. To do this, they create the Mass Effect phenomena and establish Mass Relays across each cluster they visit. During these travels, the Leviathans encountered other intelligent species, including the Keepers, who did not match up to their greatness. At the height of their apex, the Leviathans controlled and commanded their "servants" to build a Citadel for themselves, and entrusted the Keepers with maintaining this station forevermore. In the millions of years that passed, peace and prosperity was the norm in the Milky Way. However the Leviathans' power were beginning to weaken; as their numbers dwindled, many of the species under their rule began to challenge their authority.
As soon as the Leviathans lost their grasp, a massive war broke. Clusters of worlds rose up against the Leviathans as their technologies were being used against them. The war lasted for a century and the Leviathans clearly underestimated the resilient nature of these lesser beings. In a desperate attempt to save themselves, the few Leviathans that were still alive merged their flesh with the mass technology. This transformed them into the Reapers, an organic-synthetic hybrid race with god-like powers. The war's tide turned after the Reapers were born; they went and conquered every race that dared defied them in a decade! But one Reaper wasn't content in defeating these organic servants for their insolence. Its name was Harbinger, the leader of the Reapers, and it wanted to exterminate all of them! The Keepers were spared only to face a fate far worse than eradication.
After the war ended, the Reapers' energy were severely drained. The species that were indoctrinated during the war offered themselves as sacrifices. It is from that moment that the Reapers found a new twisted reason for exterminating intelligent life: they see them as being a new source of fuel. Flawed beings that are edible and irrational, the Reapers concluded that the only reason organic life exist is to eat or be eaten. These pitiful gene-ridden lifeforms arrogantly believe they can use THEIR master's technology! They gladly accepted the sacrifices and thus began the Reapers' process of harvesting organic life, indoctrinated or not.
The first Harvest took only a hundred years to complete, but the Reapers soon faced a new problem. Most of the intelligent life that were destroyed, harvested, or turned into slaves (like the Keepers) were not enough. It would take thousands of years for the next intelligent lifeforms to emerge. The Reapers would not survive long enough without new intelligent lifeforms to harvest. And so they came up with a brilliant solution: they'll go into a deep sleep in the void, preserving themselves, and leave one behind to open the way when it's time to harvest. They also left behind all the relays and the Citadel for the next generation to utilize, along with the Keepers who are now slaves to the Citadel. The Reapers then withdrew into Dark Space, via the Citadel, and hibernated for the next fifty thousand years. From that moment on, they've repeated this cycle for the next millions of years, harvesting many species foolish enough to wield their technology.
Fifty thousand years ago, when humanity was still living in caves, the Prothean Empire was the first real challenge to the Reapers. Unlike the other races they've harvested, the Protheans wanted to turn the Reapers' technology against them. They've hindered the Reaper's cycle long enough to create their own version of the mass relay on Ilos. As they were doing so, the Reapers wanted to make an example of these imperialistic fools. They made half of the Prothean populous into the Collectors, another slave race under the Reapers' command. While their secret project on Ilos proved to be the Reapers undoing, the Protheans suffered tremendously. Through this suffering, the Protheans found a way to stop the Reapers after their cycle was complete. Not only did the last living Prothean Scientists built the Conduit to the Citadel and disrupt the Keepers, they've encoded the Dark Energy Flare sequence into the Citadel. This enabled the Citadel to harness Dark Energy surrounding it and channel this power into a Flare that can, theoretically, destroy the Reapers! Only the Catalyst, a list of potential avatars, can activate it.
Plot-point: (Javik is on that list!)
The Protheans died so that the next generation of intelligent life would stand a chance in the next cycle. Vigil, a Virtual Intelligence (VI), was entrusted to instruct those who have received the message sent out through the Prothean beacons. Two lifeforms answered this distress call: Saren and Shepard. Thus the Mass Effect trilogy begins

Shepard and LI share an erotic moment together.
Chapter 10: The Battle for the Citadel.
Shepard meets Vigil on Ilos and learns more about the Reapers and the Prothean's effort to stop them. Saren and Sovereign launch their assault on the Citadel. A month later, while clearing out Geth holdouts, the Normandy comes under attack by an unknown enemy ship. Most of the crew members managed to escape, but Shepard is missing in action.
Chapter 12: Awakening.
Shepard awakens in a remote space station, where he/she finds out that it has been two years. He/She meets Zaeed Massani, the hardened bounty hunter, and Miranda Lawson, a Cerberus Operative. Later on Shepard meets The Illusive Man (T.I.M), the leader and founder of Cerberus.

Then at the end of this chapter, Shepard obtains and wakes up Grunt, a Tank Breed Krogan.
Chapter 15: Horizon.
T.I.M sends Shepard to Horizon, another human colony in the Terminus Systems that's gone dark. Ashley/Kaiden make a reappearance as she/he tries to defend the colony from the Collectors. When Shepard arrives with his new team to survey the situation, he/she meet Ashley/Kaiden again and at first its all well and good. Then the two argue over Shepard's 'new employer'. Afterwards the two of them come to a "mutual" understanding and part ways.
Chapter 16: Illium and the Truth.
Shepard continues recruiting as he/she heads to Illium. Shepard reunites with Liara, who is now an information broker. She points Shepard towards finding Samara, the Asarii Justicar, and Thane Krios, the Drell Assassin. He/She does battle with Eclipse mercenaries while searching for Samara and Thane, as well a helping Miranda save her sister. Later on in the chapter, Zaeed finally gets his revenge on his old comrades in Blue Suns, including their leader-Vito Santiago. Finally Shepard boards the Collector Ship, discover the horrible truth to the Collector's origin, and escape their ship in the nick of time.
Chapter 17: Trial and Error.
Shepard confronts TIM on the last mission, who deflects the accusations with another lead. Shepard ignores his insight, then goes off to save Tali and meet Kal'Regeer on Haelstrom. Later on Shepard goes to Tuchanka, the Krogan's home world, where he meets either Wrex (again) or Wreav. He/She do battle with the Blood Packs, help out Grunt's Rites of Passage, and solve Mordin's dilemma. At this point Shepard can have an affair (or develop a relationship) with someone: for male Shepard it can be Miranda or Tali; for female Shepard it can be Thane or Garrus.
Chapter 18: Overlord.
Shepard goes to stop Project Overlord and save David from his brother.
Chapter 19: A Friend in Need...
Shepard helps Samara hunt down her youngest daughter on Omega, then assists Thane's son and solves Garrus's problem on the Citadel. Shepard confronts Anderson about Ashley's mission on Horizon and learns the truth. Soon he/she must defend Tali in her Trial. Shepard can continue developing a relationship or stop the affair from here.
Chapter 20: Prioritizing.
Shepard decides to follow up on T.I.M's insight and heads toward a Derelict Reaper. Here Shepard meets Legion, a Geth Infiltrator, and gains a vital component to the suicide mission. Soon Legion requests help with the Geth Heretics, in exchange for its services. when Shepard returns from the mission, he/she finds the Collectors have attacked and abducted the Normandy crew! Tali interrogates Legion on its intentions, and Shepard can either side with one of them or convince both of them to cooperate. Shepard then rallies the team together and assaults the Collector Base. There he/she rescues the crew, find some clues to what the Reapers' intentions are, and either destroys or spares the Collector base. Team members can die in the last segment of this chapter!
Chapter 21: Lair of the Shadow Broker.
After cutting ties-or cooperating-with Cerberus, Shepard returns to Illium to help Liara battle against the Shadow Broker. He/She meets him, his Network, and Feron on a far away world. Shepard defeats the Shadow Broker and Liara takes over the Network. Later on, Shepard invites Liara to his quarters onboard the Normandy, where the two can share a tender moment together IF a relationship was established.
Chapter 22: Conviction.
Admiral Hackett ask Shepard to go rescue a friend from a Batarian prison center, alone. The mission gets complicated when Shepard discovers the indoctrinated personal are being controlled by Harbinger, the leader of the Reapers and former master of the Collectors. To delay the Reapers' Invasion, he/she destroys the system with thousands of Batarians in it. From this action alone Shepard's credibility is put on trial and is either pardoned or convicted. If convicted, on accounts of genocide and being association with Cerberus, Shepard is stripped of his/her rank and thrown into jail! If pardoned, Shepard is grounded until a hearing Committee can be assembled.
Chapter 23: Arrival (ME3).
Six months later, after Shepard is thrown into jail or not, the Reapers begin their attack on Earth and the Galaxy. James Vega, a young Alliance marine, is sent in by Anderson to get Shepard, either from an Alliance outpost or jail in Vancouver. James and Shepard rendezvous with him and they make there way to Ashley/Kaiden and the Normandy. While everyone else escapes the Reaper's onslaught, Anderson stays behind to help form a resistance. Shepard reunites with Liara on Mars, where she has discovered something important that might help destroy the Reapers. However Kei Ling, TIMs right hand man, steals the data and mortally wounds Ashley/Kaiden in the process.
Chapter 24: Old Friends and New Allies.
The Normandy makes it out of the Solar System and heads toward the Citadel. Shepard escort Ashley/Kaiden to the Citadel hospital and wishes them well. Then he/she goes to the Council: if the Council was spared, then Shepard's effort tries to unite the galaxy against the Reapers goes favorably well; if not, then Shepard's effort were in vain. Either outcome demonstrates the pettiness of politicians, and their views on humanity (good/bad) and the situation. Shepard is then given a lead by the Turian Councilor to save the Turian Hierarchy's Primarch on Palaven. Returning to the Normandy, Shepard starts having nightmares and meets old and new faces. New members include Yeoman Samantha Traynor and Shuttle Pilot Steve Cortez; both homosexual LI for Shepard. Shepard arrives on Palaven and runs into Garrus, Tali, and Kal'Reegar again. Together they go off to get the Primarch out safely. At the end of this chapter, Shepard returns to Eden Prime and retrieves Javik, the last Prothean, from Cerberus.
Chapter 25: Repaying Debts.
Shepard receives a distress signal from Miranda, whose abandoned Cerberus and stole vital information from them, which could help stop the Reapers. Led on this hunch, Shepard goes to Elysium where he reunites with Miranda Lawson and meets Kathleen Sanders. Together they help evacuate Grissom Academy's students from Cerberus's grasp. Before they leave a massive battle suit, calling itself Colossus, comes crashing through Grissom Academy's hallway. He is defeated and Miranda rejoins the Normandy crew, with weary eyes, renewing her loyalty (and love[if LI]) to Shepard. Later on Shepard pays Ashley/Kaiden a visit and meets Thane again in the Citadel hospital.
Chapter 26: Negotiating the Krogan Terms.
Wrex/Wreav demand a cure to the Genophage, but negotiations break down when it is revealed that a fertile Krogan female is on Sur'Kesh, the Salarian's home world. Eve is soon rescued by Mordin, Shepard's team, and Major Kirrahe (if he survived). She is taken off Sur'Kesh and brought back to Tuchanka. Tensions mount between Wrex/Wreav and the Primarch when a Turian bomb was discovered (and deactivated) on Tuchanka. Meanwhile Grunt discovers the Rachni's location (only available if the Queen was spared) and Shepard must either let the Queen or Grunt die. On Tuchanka, Shepard can either help Mordin release a cure to the Genophage, resulting in him dying in the process, shoot him to prevent the cure from being released, or convince him to walk away if the conditions are right. If Wrex is the Krogan leader, and Mordin was stopped or convinced, he'll confront Shepard and get killed; if Wreav is the leader, then nothing happens.
Chapter 27: The Coup.
Shepard returns to the Citadel, only to find its under siege by Cerberus. He/She meets Kei Ling again who kills the Salarian Councilor and mortally wounds Thane after a brief skirmish. Shepard reaches the Council to warn them of Udina's intentions, but is confronted by Ashley/Kaiden! Shepard either convinces or kills Ashley/Kaiden and shoots Udina before things got out of hand.
Chapter 28: Saving Grace.
Shepard helps out Aria with getting the Mercs to cooperate, pays his/her respects to Thane and his son, and recruits Ashley/Kaiden (if alive) again on the Citadel. Later on Ashley/Kaiden (if alive) find out who Miranda used to work for and tries to kill her! Miranda is spared when Shepard intervenes. Later on Shepard goes off to rescue both ex-Cerberus scientists and Zaeed. Then Shepard heads to the Monastery, where he destroys it and either saves or kills Samara and her oldest daughter, Falere.
Chapter 29: Rannoch.
Shepard meets up with the Quarians as they try to retake their home world. Tali rejoins the crew and Legion lends a hand. Legion can be sacrificed in order to give the Geth consciousness, or be stopped and killed by Tali and Shepard. Peace can be achieved between the Geth and the Quarians, or Shepard can allow the Geth to wipe out the Migrant Fleet (Tali commits suicide!). A very variable chapter! Later on Kei Ling boards the Normandy and kidnaps Miranda!
Chapter 30: The Fall of Thessia.
Before Shepard could launch a search for Miranda's whereabouts, a distress call comes in from Thessia, Liara's home world. It is under siege by the Reapers and Shepard is told of another vital clue to defeating the Reapers. He/She and Liara try to find the secret Prothean data cache, but Eve, another Cerberus agent, shows up and steals it! Afterwards Shepard stops Liara from harming Javik then tries to comfort her. At the end of this chapter, Shepard receives an angry message from Aria, who has taken matters into her own hands and begins her attempt to retake Omega.
Chapter 31: Sanctuary.
Shepard heads off to confront Aria's wreck-less action, but soon finds out that both Miranda and the data are on Omega. If the Collector base wasn't destroyed, Shepard must fight them again in order to rescue Miranda from Eva. The secret location to Cerberus HQ, Cronus Station, is revealed after Miranda is saved. While Shepard was off rescuing Miranda and killing Kei Ling's girlfriend(!), Aria personally calls in for assistance. Shepard can either help out Aria with retaking Omega, getting a massive boost to the Galactic Fleet and Army; or Shepard can go recover the data instead, leaving Omega, the Terminus Forces, and Aria to their fate.
Chapter 32: Alpha and Omega/Hostile Takeover.
Shepard infiltrates Cronus Station with Miranda, battles and kills Kei Ling, and recovers the data OR helps Miranda take over Cerberus if data was already recovered. It is revealed that the Citadel has a Dark Energy Flare sequence. This powerful built-up of dark energy, channeled through the Citadel, is theoretically possible of destroying-or controlling-the Reapers. The only way to activate this sequence is by getting the Catalyst (Javik!) to the central control station. Unfortunately TIM wasn't on Cronus Station. He infiltrates to the Citadel and tries to take control of the Reapers himself. His attempts only alert the Reapers; now they've got control and have moved it to Earth. Miranda can either take over as the new Director of Cerberus or be convinced to leave Cerberus to rot. She stays with Shepard nonetheless.
Chapter 33: The Battle for Earth.
Shepard shares one last moment with LI before meeting up with Hackett and the Galactic Fleet. They plan to launch a diversion against the Reaper fleet orbiting Earth, while offloading the Galactic Army planet side. Shepard and his squad will be tasked with attempting to infiltrate the Citadel via a conduit in London: Anderson's home city.
Chapter 34: The Last Hurrah.
As the Galactic Fleet and Army battle against the Reapers, Shepard leads his/her squad to London's conduit. His efforts are hindered by Harbinger's belligerent attacks. Anderson and Javik make it to the conduit, but Shepard calls in the Normandy to take out Harbinger-which either gets crippled or agitated-and orders his squad to retreat back. Shepard, depending on the readiness indicator, could lose a squad mate to Harbinger's attack, be mortally wounded, or expose the Normandy to danger. Whatever the outcome, Shepard reaches the conduit and regroups with Anderson and Javik. Together they make there way towards the master control room. While Javik tries to activate the Dark Energy Flare sequence, since its encrypted with Prothean codes, TIM shows up and attempts to persuade Shepard to see from his perspective. He mortally wounds Anderson and Javik, but is either killed by Shepard or persuaded to shoot himself.
Chapter 35: At the End of All Things.
During the Battle for Earth, Harbinger is finished off by the Agincourt and the Normandy (or not). As Shepard shares one last moment with Anderson, a vital decision comes about here. Does Shepard allow Javik to activate the Dark Energy Flare sequence, allowing him to avenge his people and destroy the Reapers for good, or does Shepard kill Javik and take control of the Reapers as TIM wanted? Ending outcomes on separate notepad.
Epilogue: Reunion/Dominion/Fortitude/Requiem/Legacy
The end results from choices and outcomes on separate notepad.

My Endings to Mass Effect
Ending 1: The Reapers are destroyed (Reunion/Requiem).
Through Shepard and Javik's perseverance, they manage to activate the Dark Energy Flare sequence-a massive built up of dark energy channeled through the Citadel. This sequence destroys the Reapers (NOT the Geth and EDI), damages the Citadel, and disables the Mass Relays. Both the Citadel and the Relays are repairable, but the Galactic Fleet and Army are stranded for the moment. The Normandy was ordered to retreat out of the Solar System, and gets stranded on Ilos. The galaxy rejoices in this miraculous victory! Shepard can survive this ending, only if the Galaxy at War (GaW) numbers exceeds 8000. If he/she survives, then a search party goes off to find him and the Normandy after the Relays are reactivated. If he/she dies, a grand funeral is held on the Citadel where Shepard's actions are remembered. Afterwards all of the choices that have been made will be chronicled, including who Shepard (if he/she lives) romanced, and who has lived and died. This is the preferable ending, but requires a GaW number greater than 7500.
Ending 2: Shepard becomes the Reaper's new master (Dominance/Fortitude).
Taking TIM's advice, and accepting his/her fate as being a organic-synthetic hybrid like Saren was, Shepard kills Javik and attempts to reverse the Flare sequence. By importing his/her consciousness into a Reaper, via the master control center, Shepard sends out a signal that allows him/her to take command of the Reapers. Although Shepard loses his/her body in the process, he/she fulfills T.I.M's vision. Depending on Shepard's reputation, Shepard can either rule the galaxy with an Iron Fist (renegade) or help guide the galaxy to a new age of prosperity (paragon). This option is only available if Shepard fully agrees with TIM's plan and if the numbers are greater than 7500.
Ending 3: Utter Defeat (Legacy).
Despite Shepard's efforts, and what the galaxy threw at the Reapers, he/she dies along side Anderson. Too many mistakes have been made and there wasn't enough time to get the Flare sequence activated. Giving into despair, and watching the fleet get decimated by the Reapers, Javik commits suicide. The Normandy makes a valiant struggle against the Reaper Armada, but is soon cut down by Harbinger himself. The galaxy gets harvested again; the cycle is completed a hundred years later. The ruins of every galactic civilization is erased from existence. The only hope now lies in Liara's time capsules, left behind for the next generation to find. This ending only occurs if the numbers are below 7500.

Romantic Outcomes
Shepard can establish a Love Interest (LI) with the following characters:
Male Shepard
-heterosexual relationship: Ashley or Miranda
-trans-alien relationship: **Tali or *Liara
-homosexual relationship: Steve
Female Shepard
-heterosexual relationship: Kaiden or *Thane
-trans-alien relationship: **Garrus or ***Liara
-homosexual relationship: Samantha
***Liara can have a relationship with either male or female Shepard.
**If Shepard isn't romancing either Tali or Garrus, they'll hook up with each other instead.
*Thane dies in Chapter 28: Saving Grace, leaving his son to Shepard.
-Note that Kelly Chambers and Samara aren't considered LI. A relationship with Kelly will only be considered a fling, and Samara is too devoted to her cause(s).
-Shepard/Liara (Male or Female) Outcome:
The two get married and have a child: Amina Shepard. Depending on Shepard's background, they either settle down on Earth, Thessia, a colonial world, or aboard a space station. Liara hands the Network over to Feron, ensuring that the next Shadow Broker is as reliant as she was.
-Shepard/Ashley or Kaiden Outcome:
The two get married and raise two kids: Jacob and Jacqueline Shepard. Depending on Shepard's background, they either settle down on Earth, a colonial world, or aboard a space station.
-Shepard/Homosexual LI Outcome:
The two of them settle down into a quiet lifestyle. Depending on Shepard's background, they either settle down on Earth, a colonial world, or aboard a space station.
-Shepard/Tali Outcome:
They return to Rannoch and build Tali's house by the beach. If the Geth and Quarians were persuaded towards a peaceful resolution, a Geth platform volunteers to assists both Shepard and Tali. Its name is Servo, a humorous Geth with singing talents (MST3K reference)!
-Shepard/Garrus Outcome:
The two of them continue to explore the possibility of an Turian/Human relationship. Although its impossible to bare any children together, they're considering adopting one or two kids someday. They still try to prove who has the better shot on the Citadel!
-Shepard/Miranda Outcome:
-Miranda as the Director of Cerberus: Her relationship towards Shepard is now both a business and personal interest. Together they keep Humanity safe from outside threats, while maintaining a non-hostile policy towards the other species of the galaxy. This relationship, however, has some foreshadowing to an ill outlook for both Miranda and Shepard; Power corrupts.
-Miranda without Cerberus: Without any organization hunting her down, and having no interest in this dangerous lifestyle anymore, Miranda stays with Shepard on board the Normandy. Even though she can't get pregnant, Miranda has found peace in knowing her sister is safe and that she's with Shepard for good.
-Shepard/Thane Outcome:
Thane may have died to save Shepard from Kei Ling, but his son, Kolyat, still lives. He and Shepard form a strong Mother/Son bondage after the Reapers War is over. They bury Thane's body on Kahje, the Hanar's home world, with his wife. They'll always remember Thane and his good deed he's done towards his son and Shepard. They soon cherish each other as Thane did with his family.
-If Shepard dies, the LI (or Kolyat if Thane was LI) will say a few words at his/her funeral, place Shepard's name on the memorial stand underneath Captain Anderson's name on the Normandy, and weep over their loss.
-If Shepard becomes the new Reaper master, then all LI developed over the trilogy will be disregarded.

Very good! But what happened to Jack and Jacob?

Very good! But what happened to Jack and Jacob?
Good question:
I took them out because they didn't seem to have much a good role, even though Jack has a good following. You may also notice that Kasumi is missing as well. My reasons are simple: to me I think Jack was shoe-horned in just to give the ME universe an edgy feel, but all it did [to me] was make her out as some over-powered biotic punk. Jacob, as much as I want diversity and race in this story, is the least popular character. He doesn't have much at stake and got the rear end of the stick when it comes to personality. Regretably I find Zaeed a more interesting character than Jacob, both gameplay wise and story oriented. As for Kasumi, she was implimented just because Bioware wanted to. Turns out her story has no relevance to the main story. Therefore, after deducting these rational thoughts, I removed them entirely and placed in a more favorable cast.
