I don't like it. A lot of work, but I still don't like it. A lot of technobabble but it's no better than the current endings. Sorry.

It's worse. Dare I say... utterly idiotic and stupid beyond measure.

It's pretty much the same as stating the ultimate villain in all fantasy novels wasn't the vicious warlord, the evil sorceror or the mad king, but it was... their weapons and arms. The element Fe  was controlling and manipulating them all. Or did I misinterpret something.

I dare say I agree. Substitute a prothean for the kid. Spout a bunch of technobabble that makes absolutely no sense, Give the same craptastic choices and ending and suddenly everything is fine? But the Prothean forgot to mention that we'd have to exterminate the Asari to remedy the problem since their usage and natural genetic ability of biotics were part of the cause of all this mess.<_<

Yo dawg, we knew eezo was going to be a problem with dark energy so we made a bunch of tech to guide evolution and technology development down the path that uses eezo and made a bunch of synthetics to kill all of you before you evolve genetically to use too much eezo and develop tech that uses too much eezo so that dark energy becomes a problem.

So the problem wasnt the choices or the ending, then, it was the messenger and the message? <_<

A certain writer 'can't write 'that' ending,' but you can...

...proving this is a matter for BioWare of knuckleheaded stubbornness rather than actually coming up with some thoughtful answers to the problem.

OP, I totally approve of your attempt to answer the problem! Unfortunately, as an xBox user, I now have to figure out how to burn my CD with a proper ending choice and still have it work in my drive. If you know a layman's answer for that, do tell! Otherwise, just keep up the good work.

it's a halo thing. or that **** in the gears of war that parasite ****. or the flood in halo alike.

it's cliche I know but it makes sense and ties all the loose ends because the game until mass effect 2 pre dlc state was foreshadowing SOMETHING like this more than the synthetics vs organics thing.

Then mod your own ending.  The OP's proven it's possible to do so pretty dramatically, and should be given credit at least for that.

Well, to be honest, I don't really want to defend my attempt at a conclusion much because it is not "my perfect ending" or "what I wanted" or anything like that. It is a compromise of the changes I wanted to make and the changes I could make within the constraints we are working with at the moment (these are getting less and less by the way and encourage everyone to check out the links in my previous posts).
Yes, the choices are still sort of bad but I can't get rid of them (for now), all I actually tried to do was to get rid of the discrepancy between the star kids motives and its actions. Yes, the dialogue is full of exposure of new concepts and only barely covers them, leaving much to the interpretation and deduction of the player but I had to cut my original script by about a third of its size to fit it in the game and there is only so much you can do in the last 10 minutes.

I will say though that your interpretation, while not necessarily invalid, was not what I intended. I tried to explain my ideas behind some of the concepts here if anyone is interested.

I actually tried very hard not to make it too cliché (as much as that is possible given the situation we start from :)). As I said, I never played Halo or GoW. I hardly thought my story would be completely original but yea. Son of a ....! :o

Dude, what did you do to Control? It used to be an ending that exemplified Shepard's will to protect, and now it's just "They're different now... 'cept probably not forever."

Why would anyone even pick the new Control?

Thousands of people.

On the mod... I can appreciate the effort, but that is just terrible, no offense.

I think we need to keep in mind just how much of an effort this is. Bioware has released ZERO tools for modding any of the Mass Effect games. To really 'change' the endings, the way we really want to see them changed, requires a ridiculous ammount of effort. So if OP is willing to take this on, he's got my support. The payoff here isn't the mod as it currently stands, the payoff here is that we figure out a way (or maybe come up with some tools) that could let us do what we've been asking for since March. Ie. Retcon the casper the genocidal ghost out of existence.

+1.  And if folks don't like it or the current endings and are on PC, there's always the option to put the same amount of effort and thought modding their own games.

Really great story in the mod OP. Love the dark energy plot you put in the mod. What exactly is the difference between the High EMS endings and the Low EMS ones?

Unfortunately, as I wrote above, this would not be easy and constitute a rather extensive project. I am not saying it's impossible but I am not planning to start anything like that on my own at the moment.

BTW: Preliminary version is ready for download (see OP).

if people where willing to work with you would you consider?

I'd like to mod, but I'm on a 360. I could mod on a PC, but I'm not about to load Origin or any of that other spyware onto my i7 machine. The main problem is the starkid or whoever delivers the message and the three choices from hell. But here's my mod and it takes care of the problem.

Blah blah blah no explanations.
C: I know you want to destroy the reapers, so you can just run over there and shoot that tube, and a red beam will fire out and kill all of them dead, including my annoying little arse.
S: Sounds good to me.
C: But before you do that I've got to run through my bit here.
S: Okay. Go for it.
C: You could electrocute yourself but that doesn't look like much fun, so I don't think I'd do that.
S: I don't think I will either.
C: No, you just kind of turn to ash, and then dissipate in space. Or, you could take a flying leap into that green death beam.
S: No, that doesn't look like much fun either.
C: Why not? I've heard it's only the sudden stop that hurts. *chuckle* But seriously.
S: I think I've made my choice.
C: Yeah, it wasn't too difficult, was it?
S: No it wasn't. Take care kid.
C: Have a nice day.
* shoots tube then red explosions *
Then add a clip of a rescue and reunion.

This would make the game totally replayable. It's short, quick and to the point.

If you can actually figure out a way to mod visuals (ie. create a reunion scene by adding more still artwork), I'm sure you could get a lot of help from the community in implementing it. These endings need to be modded to hell :P

Technically, it's possible in a crude way, you just replace the videos of existing ending slides with new ones that show whatever you wish. It's just that AFAIK, the voiceover will still be cut for time (as some lines were, if you watched the YouTube videos in the OP with comments), as that's something set in the scene files (which, again, AFAIK, Warranty Voider's latest tools allow the editing of, it's just a matter of figuring out what to change for what).

Well, how about something like this?

Jade8aby88 wrote...

this is unbelievably awesome! Can you do a refuse ending that's exactly the same, but just mods happy epilogue slides in after it cuts to fade to black? Instead of Liara's time capsule?

Coming right up, ma’am. Enjoy at your convenience. (As a fellow Aussie, I should probably call you mate, I guess )

IMPORTANT: The videos I used in these mods are NOT mine!
The one in the Shepard extended breath scene is Remember Me! by Genol3oost.
The one in the succesful refusal is Phillippe Foix's video Reignite with the fantastic music from Maluka (Malufenix on youtube).
I hope they don't mind I used there videos here but I didn't have the time (nor would I have the skill) to make good video by myself, not to mention such fantastic ones.

Anyway, I hope you realize the potential of this. I am replacing bink movies and am changing scripts to make them play properly. This means, whatever video you can come up with, I can now patch it into the game itself.
Want a reunion scene after Sheps breath? No problem!
Indoctrination Theory with Shep waking up in London? Just give me a video.
More War assets (like rachni or geth ships) shown during the battle for earth? Possible.

There are several limitations to this of course. I can’t read variable and change the scripts according to them (yet) so no LI specific reunion (Luckily, I can distinguish between MaleShep and FemShep for the breath scene though). Also the videos get really large, real quick. Also, the audio quality seems to suffer a bit, not sure if this is due to the games audio engine or my bink conversion settings, still working on that.
The method is crude but effective and highly adaptive in its design. ;)

I will prepare a tutorial for all this stuff ASAP and make a post in the fan creations forum (since this topic should actually really stay on MEEM and how it’s story compares to the original and stuff.

As always, thanks and credit goes to the team over at "creating new end for Mass Effect 3" who are continously working on the ME3Explorer and can use any help they can get.

Well, finally, I hope I don’t get banned for this. =]

OP, you and the guys at ME3 Explorer are so incredibly awesome.  MIght I suggest some more extensive tutorials on the wiki site so we can follow along while you guys work on more videos and rudimentary mods?

Yeah, the wiki is not very organised, unfortunately. There are some tutorials there and also check out the forums and the ME3Explorer sourceforge page for more info. The thing is, we are all still learning as we go and lot's of stuff is very rudimentary, still (I am spending most of my time in HEX editors :)).
I am planning to make some video tutorials but I really only know about sounds, videos and scripts, not so much about meshes, textures and the like. Keep an eye on the Fan creation forum here on BSN. I will set up a thread there for that sort a stuff.

It's better written and it doesn't insult your intelligence like the existing ending did. Nice work OP.

No whether the idea is better is up for debate i'm sure, but anyone who says the actual ending is written better are fooling themselves.

Thanks.  I'm sure there are a lot of us out here who'd love to put our own spin on the endings, but just have no idea what the hell we're doing.

Out of curiosity, there's a fan video here that completely cuts out the Catalyst gameplay section, jumping from the cutscene where Shep and Anderson are talking to the Crucible deploying (destroy ending.)  It's just a video edit.  Is there any way to do that in-game, skip over the Catalyst?

If that can be done maybe I can finally finish this game. I started a playthrough with every class, but they always end with Shepard bleeding out with Anderson. I want no part of the magic elevator, starchild or even the possiblity of synthesis (god I hate synthesis).

That's a pretty good proof of concept. The video fo course doesn't -quite- work because they're compilations of past scenes... it's not really a 'reunion'. But one could easily create new slides by using artwork done by deviantartists :D

The ultimate dream of course is if we could create our own content, but I dunno how realistic that is given that it took years to restore the cut content from KotorII :P
