There are WAY too many references to Dumat in DA:O and especially DA2 for there to be nothing going on.

Except Dumat is you know, dead. He was the first Archdemon to be killed. The only connection to Dumat we have is Cory from Legacy.

I thought it was said somewhere that the Chantry doesn't actually know if the first Archdemon was Dumat. They only assumed that much because that Blight lasted for like 200 years, and since Dumat was the strongest Old God; it just had to be him.

Now they are just working their way backwards from strongest to weakest. Which is going to suck if they were wrong on that, and there is a super-powered Archdemon waking up soon...

It would see more natural for the weakest dragon to wake first, saving the most powerful for last.  If they did the most powerful first, with the weakest last, then there might be an awesomely powerful one yet to come, maybe concerning the child that was born, who has the soul of an Old God.  So many "if's", and as everyone knows, that 2 letter word, if, rules the world.  Even though not everyone did the ritual with Morrigan, there was a reason that a child was put into the story.  A child that has the soul of an Old God.  Unless just like you played Hawke, who escaped the destruction at Lothering, in the future you get to play as this "grown child" with these awesome powers because you have the soul of an Old God, or maybe the child turns out to be the most powerful archdemon of them all.

So it might not be dumat? I mean it lasted so long because the gray wardens hadn't learned to properly put down an old god yet

Does anyone else think she looks a little ridiculous in DA2?

No but she's more than powerful enough to find one and awaken it. I think that its clear enough that DA"O and DA 2 were build ups for her role in DA 3.

The first Blight lasted 200 years because at the time, no one knew how to kill the archdemon.  Every time the body died, it would just pass on to a new darkspawn and start things up all over again.  It wasn't until some magisters and knightsfigured out a way to turn the taint against the darkspawn and the Joining was created that Dumat finally stayed dead.

It'd be interesting to actually encounter an Old God before it was tainted by the Blight.

I can only imagine the awesomeness of having a conversation with a being like that.

I don't see how my statement and your contradict one another.

I was questioning the previous claim that Old Gods were male; if Old Gods were dragons with wings, and dragons with wings are always female, (supposedly), then the physical vessels of the Old Gods were female.

I am going to gander they are not too fond of mortals, given that, I believe, it is implied that they, the Old Gods,  tricked the magisters into breaching the Golden City as a means of releasing themselves, the Old Gods, from their eternal slumber.

I see DA2 was a stepping stone to 3, one to set up the big war we will be having. It didnt even feel like a proper sequel, more like a spin off or expansion...that you pay full price for. DA3 is hopefully where things get good again.

The first Blight happened long before the Chantry existed. It was the Tevinter who decided their head god was kicking their ass.

All blgihts lasted for a long itme, some blights almost being a victory for the darkspawn. The blgiht in DAo ist he only one to ever be finished that quickly, and with the least manpower(every blight but the one in DAo had many nations to fight where in DAO it was just the people of Ferelden(including the werewolfs), the dwarfes of Orzamar and some dalish clans.

I hope we go into the Deep Roads and actually awaken an archdemon. I'm curious to find out what would happen if it wasn't the darkspawn that found an archdemon.

It could be a nice bossfight without having to resort to something silly or a full blight, and at the same time it could be wonderful exposition on the nature of the taint and the darkspawn.

Sweet sounding.  Would love to fight dragons as part of the story, without the dragon being an archdemon.  So much is left open and so much is left up to the persons mind as to what is going on.

The more I think about it, the better it sounds. Fighting an Old God Dragon through narrow hallways, trying desperately to get it into a position where it's vulnerable to you and can't just melt you all in seconds? Yes, please!

Amen to that.  Any dragon for that matter.  If you have ever played Skyrim, the dragons that you fight there are totally awesome.  They can pick you up in their mouth and spit you back out, and even fly low, grab you up in their talons, and take you up and away, and then drop you.  I have a thing about dragons.

But as you say, fighting a dragon within the confines of a narrow space, not getting melted, chomped on, breathe on, etc would be super sounding.  And the actual doing of it, my mind just goes crazy at the thought of being able to do it.

I know right? How dare they make a sequal like the previous game. What blasphamy is this?

I think she means that it will be political focus (mages vs templars) and not fantasy focus (darkspawn).

A force of mages seems pretty fantasy focus to me lol. All those rogue mages, all those demons that will step into the world.

I think an army of Pride Demons will give the darkspawn a run for their money.

Actually I am hoping that  all the mages do not start turning into demons like they did in DA2.  I do not mind battling a bunch of demons, but to have the mages that are supposed to be on your side, and be against mages using blood magic and against mages turning into demons, to suddenly start turning into demons themselves, like what happened in DA2, to me, is a turn off.

Hey, that's a good question. How do we know any of those Old Gods are the old gods we think they were?

Morrigans child (if she had one in your run) isn't the child of the Archdemon, it has the soul of the archdemon itself. It's basically that archdemon reborn in a human (or half dwarf if your dwarven warden did the ritual) body.

Actually, it's a bit more mundane than that. Morrigan's son has the soul of an untainted Archdemon. In other words, the soul of an ancient dragon. As to what the 'soul' entails, [is he a dragon in the fade? if you drink his blood do you have to do what he says, a la Dragon Cults?] we have no idea, as Morrigan herself stated that he is innocent and unaware of his destiny/nature/whatever.

Neat but inconsequential.

DA2 codex entries. Kirkwall is a cursed city. They did not make it supremely obvious [though there is an achievement for getting the codex entries that state such] likely due to development time and lack thereof.

Was it a turnoff? Yes, because they did not adequately explain it in-game, and the player could not act on the knowledge that they were sitting on a city that was damned. Not many folks read codex entries, but if you DID read them, they were genuinely creepy indeed.
