You can only move tiles to an empty space. Thus, only the tiles around the empty space are clickable.LelaCenedra wrote...

The point is to connect the two opposite (diagonal) tiles in corner by a line of fire.
First I was trying to connect all 4 haha .. just play with it as this puzzle does not require planning too many moves ahead. Watch the arrows and move the tiles and it will fall in place eventually. I do not know about walk-through though.

It's not a difficult puzzle, though wish I would know how to explain it so that anyone could follow it easily.. I lack such a skill, sadly. There are several paths you can use, some are faster, some are slower but all you really need to do is to "carry" on the flame from one corner - where it is at the start - to another corner diagonally across the field. You will have to slide some tiles around to build the path (empty tile is there to give room to move the unnecessary tiles to, to make room for the correct tiles to be moved), each tile has an arrow, sort of, on it showing in which way the flame will "flow" when it hits that tile. So, you basically, just slide them around a bit, make the path and done
And yes, if you stay in the fire then it'll burn you, it's never good to stay in fire unless you have your asbestos stockings on. Better move out
Heck, wish I could explain it more clearly.. The puzzle wasn't hard for me because when I was a kid, one game I played was called "15". It was a plastic box which had 15 small plastic squares in it and one empty tile and you had to arrange the numbers in order, from 1 to 15. Pretty much the same thing like that puzzle. I played it plenty when I was a kid so when now in DAO I ran into this puzzle, it was sort of like a nostalgic deja vu
EDIT: I'll try to make a rough "sketch" to show the path I usually use, a very simple one:
. . . F
X X X |
X X X | K
X X X |
_ _ _ |
S
I don't know how well it'll look but basically S is the "start", F is the "finish", K is the "Kitty" and the "lines" are the path I usually use with the flame. X's are just other tiles or empty tile, of course this plan is not in the exact scale, it's just the general plan to show the idea. With this path I really only have to move just some tiles around and usually can complete the puzzle in just few seconds. It's not the original path I actually used the very first time, first one I used went totally other way and took a bit longer, this path just sort of popped into my mind when I was playing the game for the second time. I got into that room, looked at the puzzle and suddenly wham! There it was, clear as day. 8 seconds later, or even less, the path was complete and Kitty was being turned into kittylitter.

It's easier to work from the end back to the start. As Whailor said, it is like one of those little plastic puzzles with 15 sliding tiles and a blank space in them.

I did the same thing as Whailor I think... The first time my path was crazy, all over the board, took me like 20 minutes and I was getting angry (But it was the first time I ever finished a slider puzzle in my life -- The only puzzle I could never figure out ><;;!)
The second playthrough on that silly puzzle, I figured out the path that Whailor drew a model of and did it in about 30 seconds (=
And if you find out you have a bug, I sympathize with you, my game bugged on the ps3. A game-breaker unfortunately )= It really sucks to have to trash a character and restart because the stupid Alienage bugged and won't open when I've done everything and more that is required for it lol

You should be able to click a tile next to the open space and get it to move. You need to be close(ish) to it though so watch out on the ones that will connect the fire line. If it's failing no matter what, you probably have a bug/glitch. Reload the cellar or the whole village if a basic reload fails.

The puzzle has one tile missing, you have to click the ones next to the empty slot.
I do the following: leave the party members next to the girl+cat, walk towards puzzle,Make camera LOOK down to you Click the blocks next to the black squere.

Will place directions of moves four per set, until final set which has three moves only.
U = Move Tile Up
L = Move Tile Left
R = Move Tile Right
D = Move Tile Down
U,U,L,D// R,U,L,D// R,D,L,U// U,L,U,L// D,L,U,R// D,D,L,U// U,R,D
This has worked for me.

I have the same problem as some others; I actually find this puzzle to be really easy, but I'll be damned if I can explain how to do it. I definitely recommend starting at the end and working back. If you can get the end of the puzzle set up correctly, it's much easier to sort of backwards engineer the rest of it into place once you can see where it's all going to end up.
