Glorious.... I think I just got more hair on my chest.
Also are all macross series like the movie clip?
Might actually start wayching anime again if stuffs that brutal.

Also sorry for off topicness.

Watch both original movies: Macross: Do You Remember Love? and Macross Plus. Best traditional animation ever made. The first one is from 1984 (the year I was born) and its animation is superlative, even by today standards.

After that the series turned for the worse, trying to be more childish and androgenous. I glimpsed Macross Frontier and that was, well, sad.

Thinking about it, Macross Frontier is the kind of anime people who likes this pony stuff would watch...

Edit: I didn't mean to offend ayone with this....I just tend to find that there's a trend...as well as My Little Pony, MAcross turned itself to be more androgenous, to appeal to a wider and younger audience.

Not completely relevant though. Being a brony isn't my entire life, I mean hell, I like Mass Effect. :o

As far as toons go though, i'm about due for a rewatch of dragon ball Z. ^_^

Traditional tv shows I like include Psych, How I met your mother, the Daily Show, but that's not everything I like either.

Favorite song? The original german 99 Luftballons. Favorite band? Static X. None of these things are mutually exclusive, especially not coming from a guy who owns a corduroy suit. :o

Now i'm derailing the thread though.

I don't mean to hate or whatever, but magical, animated, meant-for-VERY-young-audience-preferably-girls-but-of-course-not-limited-to, miniature horses known as "ponies" shouldn't have any relation to an epic, adult-oriented, deep, immersive, well-developed, violent, serious, third-person, RPG such as Mass Effect. I mean I guess the only REAL relation would be the Space Magic at the end of ME3 but well, let's not count that. This comment will probably get deleted but this thread peaked my interest because I'm trying to write an essay and I can't concentrate and I never understood what the whole "brony" thing was about. But this thread has taught me nothing... ALAS! My confusion continues.

Can you elaborate on that? I'm honestly curious.

As for bronies.... it's used to label males who enjoy the show, that's all there is to it. AFAIR it was born out of "Bro" (to say male) and "Pony", thus brony.

Ok so don't hate me for this, but my little pony to me, seems just so... well, childish. I mean I've talked to bronies before and they say they are legitimately interested in the plot, but I just don't see how its possible. I mean I guess its just cause I don't understand, but I feel like the show doesn't, and shouldn't have anything that relates to adults. Sure I watch cartoons and such, but I think of it differently. Take Adventure Time for example, the show is wierd as ****, and has this subtle, adult-humor. Kids who watch it aren't old enough to understand, but teenagers and adults can chuckle at that show and say "HAHA! They did not just say "I want you inside me" (That seriously happens in an episode). And as for other kids shows I watch from time to time, are purely because they were what I grew up with, and I enjoy the sense of nostalgia. Anyway, point being, isn't mlp reletively new? If so, then adults wouldn't get any sense of nostalgia and I'm not entirely sure if there is subtle humor in that show or not, but I just can't see how it relates to adults, let alone adult-oriented games like Mass Effect, Skyrim, Halo, Borderlands, Assassin's Creed, etc. (All of which are my favorite games, and all of which I've seen a myriad of mlp fan art for.) (Did any of that make sense? Probably just to me huh?)

I watch MLP mostly for the characters and how they interact with each other. The plot sometimes makes these interactions unique, which also helps. And honestly... My Little Pony also brings me away from reality (just like games do), and this, I appreciate a lot. Is there subtle humor in MLP? Definitely not the type you mentioned.

And I do see what you're saying. I don't really pay attention to that kind of fan art, but my guess is that they simply want to merge two things they enjoy watching/playing. No more than that.

Bronies come in different flavors. There's the average one who watches the show and enjoys the story(and doesn't call it the 'Plot') and occasionally views some fan made creations. Then there's the creep Brony who reads clopfics constantly and dreams of (insert lewd acts here) with the characters. I liken the latter to those who play Tomb Raider and just constantly stare at Lara's ass. Not all Bronies and Pegasisters are creeps.

Nitpicking but Bronies who read and watch Clop stuff are called Cloppers.

Brony =/= Clopper.

The show has its own subtle humor. Nothing like "I want you inside me" but still plenty of little stuff thrown-in that adults and catch and enjoy. TV Tropes has a list of some of the stuff here.

I for one enjoy it for its clever writing and excellent animation (the entire show's animated in Flash and still looks amazing). The humor in the show also calls back to some of my childhood favorites like Dexter's Laboratory and Codename: Kids Next Door. It's also honestly refreshing to watch a series like MLP: FiM when pretty much every other game/movie series I like involves some level of violence; it's nice to know I can still be entertained by something that entertains children and doesn't involve gunplay, explosions, and heavy plot-lines.

Most people who crap all over it seem like they never bothered to give it a chance or are just bitter about its popularity. People who have honestly given it a fair shot are usually much more civil in my experience.

Could also be the general preconceptions associated with ponies. Namely its inherent "girliness" deemed by a majority of modern males. Not much you can do about that though. :?

Well, not counting the all out brawl that happened in the season 2 finale or when Fluttershy snapped that bears neck. :P But yeah, I agree with what you say.

If you read any of the threads, you'd think the game we were playing was "The Art of Complaining: An epic(?) trilogy"

Geth hate threads, and general volus threads are all i've seen this weekend. This thread is pretty all over the place, but the main concept is MPers and BSNers who are bronies and pegasisters.  Welcome variety, in my opinion, and i'm not the first to say so. :P

I had to read through the first page to figure out what a 'brony' is... but other than that, sure, I like MLP. Its a show I'd actually enjoy my child watching. Its just so sweet and innocent. The only time I can really think of that had an adult-reference was when those two baker had babies, and they were unicorn and Pegasus even though neither of the parents were, and the dad was like "sure it makes sense, I have them on my families side. That makes sense right?" I'm not saying it right but it at least implied he wasn't certain they were his. I bit my lip to hold back a bark of laughter on that one, was not expecting it.

Point is, most shows these days geared towards children have subtle adult-jokes hidden that fly over a kids head (well, hopefully, who knows with kids these days) to make it more entertaining for the parents who probably get stuck watching it with the kids. I didn't see much of that in MLP, it was just all rainbows, flowers and unicorns. Somewhat literally. It has a very nice artistic style to it too, the way it doesn't use black lines in its coloring. The art reminds me of a more colorful Samurai Jack.

Though it is funny when you meet a parent who's bat**** crazy and disapproves of their kid watching it because it has magic and talking animals. No, really. I met someone like that. Some people are so religious-crazy that its just mind-boggling. How can anyone have anything bad to say about MLP? I will admit I'm surprised at what a large adult fanbase it has, and how... disturbing some of them can be. But still, its one thing to not be into to it because its a kids show and another thing to be against it to the extent of forbidding your kids from watching it.

Oh, and also... Discord = awesome. He's like a toned-down Sheogorath. Delightfully mad.

Well of course you were asking for it. After that whole N7 Pinkie Pie picture fiasco, it's pretty well know that the ME fanbase is not very receptive of bronies. I knew when I saw it first posted earlier today that it wouldn't end well.

For what it's worth, I agree with you: Fluttershy is best pony.

And as for why I watch it, its because its funny and charming and its something to talk about amongst my siblings. Plus being a fan of something I probably shouldnt makes it more fun to wear pony shirts and have Fluttershy decals on my car and such. Call me crazy.
