Hey Bioware and fellow BSN members (love all you guys),

So, I've been thinking a lot about this, and I think I've come to a pretty good conclusion on how to "safely" have the warden and/or hawke have a sucsessful cameo that is pretty exciting in the plot line (assuming both are alive)

Have the diologue be just as player controllable as the protagonist. So basically give them a (revamped) diologe wheel. That way there isn't many misshaps in what the consumers would want their hawkes and/or wardens to say. In the case of the warden being voice, have the player select the voice for their warden as well. Say out of 5-10 options per gender/race?

With the alterations in art style effecting the facial apperences, just do what they did in ME3 when you import your shepard. Having the ablility to change their apperence after import could very well fix that problem, plus, some players might want their hawke/warden to look a tad different after a few years. This screen could pop up right as you meet the warden/hawke.

Those who don't import will get a default depending on the importance to the plot.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Please keep your thoughs constructive and respectful.

EDIT: For those who'd rather their previous characters be talked about, but not shown, in what form would you like this to appear in the game?

not a bad idea I personally think it could work if handled correctly.

As long as they do it in such a way that everyone's characters are still their own, I don't see how they can go wrong. :D

It could be a bit jarring to suddenly be controlling both sides in a conversation.
When would you be recreating their face and selecting their voices? Right at the start of the game I guess, which would mean there appearance couldn't be a surprise.
I doubt I'd be satisfied with the voice acting, even with 10 choice. But I'm probably stupidly picky on that aspect.

Wouldn't it be easier to just let the returning character be the PC for a bit, if you're prepared to go to this effort?

Turning unnecessary fan service, into resource intensive unnecessary fan service, doesn't make it better. Cookies for the effort though.

Given the difference in graphics engines how do you suppose the Warden will even get a visual appearance? The slider choices are completely different from DA:O to DA II and I'm guessing that will be the case with the third game as well. I am ready to accept my Warden(s) only being alluded to.

They'll probably have an easier time importing Hawke for an onscreen cameo.

Have their shadow appear then the main protagonist say something like "You must be the warden..." and then the screen  pop up

This sounds like an Excellent Idea.It would allow the player a nice level of control that wouldn't break immersion or rp, specific to their personal universe.

The Warden or Hawke being mentioned would be enough. After all I think there weren't many "flags" in the Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II savegames like there were in the Mass Effect series, so they couldn't import your choices even if they would.

I'm okay with a new page of the Dragon Age legend... I'd like to hear from Hawke or The Warden just because is nice to understand that they are all part of the same franchise/game, but that's enough.

What if the player could play, for some missions, as the Warden or Hawke, using them instead ot the Inquisitor? of course in different place, or why not, time. The Warden or Hawke could even be present as protagonists of a playable flashback.

or just for a mission in another place. Example: the Inquisitor is travelling to go in a village away from the town. Somewhere in the opposite direction, you take control of Hawke who's helping some mage to run away (or chasing them, who know...). you fight controlling Hawke, than, at the end of the quest, the player retake control of the Inquisitor, who's arrived at adestination.

You have seen your old character, made him/her made her choise, fight, without having problem with playng a double part.

What do you say? I know many didn't wish to see at all their old character, but I think playng with them for one last time would be fun.

Oh, same example could be done with the Warden.

It could be interesting use three character in only one game.

It'd be cool if opening sequences had something to do with freeing Hawke from the seekers or something. I don't know, brain vomit. Would be an easy path to fame, though.

What if they brought back the Warden as an NPC, but our Inquisitor ends up killing them? That would be worth bringing them back, I think. And it would be an interesting social/psychological experiment on players.

I'd be really interested in it, actually. It would be quite the poignant moment for me, since my Warden was just about the most indomitable and antagonistic mage possible. He wouldn't have just helped Anders gather his special ingredients...he would have brewed them up himself.

I might let him kill me and then headcanon the rest of the game.
