Has anyone been able to convince the woman to let Sten free, without having to threaten her?

Yep! I ended up threatening her the first time and then reloaded because I didn't like the reputation loss with Alistair. If you Persuade/Lie to her and say you're taking him back to his people, she gives up the key without a fuss. No reputation hit with anyone, though I didn't have Leiliana with me to see if she was bothered by a lie.

Thaught by Mass Effect and KOTOR experience I just got two levels of persuade for my Mage. Works like a charm for so many things. For example the bandits on the bridge, I made them 1. not rob me 2. pay me a ransom 3. leave peacefully. Fun.

Yeah I tried the persuade/lie thing, didn't work. I'm not going to threaten her with Alistair in the party sooo I guess I'll wait on getting Sten for now. Wish my persuade was higher but I don't have the spare points for that. All my points go into Strength for the Dragon Armor till its at 38 XD

As biggles12345 mentioned, having Leliana in your party pretty much guarantees the woman will allow you to free him, with no influence losses (at least concerning Leliana, Morrigan and Alistair, whom I had in my party at the time).

I lied about reuniting him with his people and it worked easily, with no influence losses. Then again, I had level 2 persuasion.

Yeah with Leliana in your party if you are not a rogue there is two options, go speak to the revered mother and get pretty much a free get out of jail card for Sten or just leave the inn after getting leliana and get her to pick the lock. So easy, it even more funny if you do the latter and then put sten in your party and go speak to the revered mother (and ser bryant) for some fun conversations

Hey guys, i got stuck in the game because i cant free sten, got no option to open his cage by lock picking it, obviously i picked the wrong words there, also the revered mother hates me, because of threatening her and i dont want to reload because meanwhile i cleared lothering completely. Is there any other way to free him. I read of stealing it from the revered mother, but i tried so and i got a message "nothing to steal". So do i have to reload :s ?

Have you recruited Leliana?

I am guessing not because she CAN pick that lock

If you have got her and tabbed so you can see the cage and it giving no lockpick option, save the game and reload, might be a bug/glitch, those kind of things generally resolve themselves with a reload.

you have a few choices:



1. Have Leliana in your party when you talk to her on releasing Sten. She will give you the key with Lelianna presence.

2. Donate 30silvers to the chantry when you first speak to Revered Mother. You can persuade her,

3. Steal from the Revered Mother.

4. High lockpicking skills can just pick the lock on Sten's cage. (i think Leliana cant do that, may need PC to do it if you are a rogue)

Probably its not worth all the trouble and it would have been faster to reload and play again, but i hate playing the same things twice, so i continue asking here



@Lichenstien: I already got Leliana in my group when i first talked to sten, but i think the opportunity to lockpick his cage depends on your choice in dialogue with sten. So if you have doubts about his guilt and focus on that, he is willing to leave his cage and you can lockpick it.

3. Thats the most interesting point, of course i tried to steal but like i said it doenst work, always getting "nothing to steal" message, anytime, i also reloaded older games and tried to steal before and after talking to her...doenst work. bug ?!? my version is 1.02a...



is there any way to rescue my "lothering cleared" - game? It would be a pitty that i got totally stuck because of picking the evil way, but it seems that in my case there is no way out.
