I do agree abit atleast. Tho id be satisfied with a hide helmet option. Good god I hate the mage helmets.

I have a mod installed that automatically equips helms in combat but automatically unequips them out of combat. It makes more sense in a RP way and you won't have to look at the ugly helmets! It's only one of three mods (respec mod and stop-dog-from-barking-in-camp-mod) that I have installed, so I guess that shows how annoyed I was with the helmets :)

Throwing my vote in with the "the robes aren't so very bad, but the helmets..oy" crowd. I'd rather not run around looking like a sort of eldritch majorette. Thanks for pointing out the no helmet hack mod, ToJKa1.

I think Reverend80's Mages Gear mod adds some nice options for Wynne, using upperclass clothing as a base- I was not very keen on the "feathers, thigh highs and cleavage" aspect of most of the high end robes at Wonders of Thedas.

I just added the Rev80 mage gear mod and am wearing one of them on my current PC, a human mage. He did a nice job, but I guess I still sort of wish the robes were... mage-like and not retexes of the noble clothes. I didn't mind the ArchonRobe look on my females, with the "bike shorts" look underneath (at least that is how I looked at them) but some of the Tevinter robes look like absolute crap on a female character. And even the regular mage robes... for men and women... I wish I was talented enough to try and model some other stuff that looks mage-y, but practical and not boring. I do like that obviously most of the mages like the flashy clothing tho. Heh.

This game desperately needs some basic hoods - both cloth and leather to cover both the Rogues and Mages. Not only the Mage hats look terrible, but so do the leather helmets. They look like friggin' rugby helmets, all of them.

I hear that. I think I've mentally mesh hacked every outfit in memory, in an effort to sort of glean the possibilities within the existing content. It might be time to see what can actually be done. *rubs hands together*

No kidding mate.  The mage hats are either like kiddie snow hats, or the pope's lid.  I put it on the first time and just busted out laughing.  Note to self: get the helmet unequipper mod stat

I wonder why mages can't use the regular formal clothes also ? In lieu of a complete redesign of robes, they can put stats on some of the other clothing outfits, like the City Elf wedding dress you get in your origin, or the Human noble formal outfits (like what Teyrn Cousland wears in the human noble origin). Add a cloak and , that will do my mage fine.

Personally i like the Archon/Tevinter Mage robe model, but the Chasind Robe model, apart form the obvious female version :o factor, and the default mage robe model aren't that special. The mage robes in NWN were quite nice looking  even for those "ye olde 3D" graphics.

UGH! Not just the robes and helmets are hideous - almost every piece of equipment in the game is ugly. I could understand some ugliness if you could pop open the toolset and every piece of armor had 9 components, with 3+ visual choices (NWN-style), but DA:O achieved the stunning duality of a complete lack of functionality coupled with face-palming visuals.

We need to express our opinions honestly so that, if not for DAO 1, we might get what we want for either an expansion or DAO 2.

I absolutely agree with the OP that we need more variety in mage gear, especially in the head items. (I use the Hide Helmet mod to keep these hideous hats permanently turned off!)

And the pictures being posted here are lovely! Come on, Bioware, we mage types want to rain magic death down on our enemies and look absolutely fabulous while doing it! You can do better in your fashion designs, come on, guys and gals!

I appreciate that this is supposed to be 'dark fantasy' (although it isn't) so we can't really have the type of robes you see in other fantasy games like Lineage etc... but that's no excuse for some of the hideous stuff in the game quite frankly. And oh God the hats...

It really isn't worth any of the stats the hat can provide however amazing they might be

I guess it's up to the modders for new textures?

I'd like to go on record stating that I don't particularly mind the "feathers, thigh highs, and cleavage" aspect of the fem gear.

Maybe...but the choice is hooker, nun, or clown hooker! Not a whole lot of variety there at all. It would be nice to have a wider variety of robes and other mage garments, so you don't feel forced to pick Arcane Warrior every time through just to wear something that's not hooker, nun, or clown hooker.

I don't think mages should have hats at all -- they're bound to look weird. And fall off in the middle of a battle. Sure, you want to equip something in that slot for the attribute bonus ... but why not give them circlets, like in NWN2... or a wreath, or a Wonder Woman tiara, or just a feather or headband... I had a very cool Stetson-type hat in NWN2, boosted my charisma +5 but I more liked it because it made me look like a cool guy... I also think your romantic interest in DA should give you a ridiculous hat or necktie, and if you don't wear it enough they get mad at you.

i don't really mind the robes, i mean the circle is controlled by the chantry so robes are essentially uniforms. however apostate robes should have more variety, perhaps morrigan's robe is a little too extreme, but that's not a bad start..

In before a Biowarian calls it 'impossible' or not worth the time it takes to implement it-- as if a game with a budget in the tens of millions couldn't do it properly with a modicum of actual effort. Ridiculous.

In 2009, cloth physics is apparently still beyond their technical ability.

More variety would be nice. Personally, I'd love to see some enterprising community member make new robes from the ground up.

My favourite mage look would have to be Soren from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.

Those are REAL robes! Image IPB & wouldn't be hard to adapt them for formal ladies as well. To each their own on the Sandals, but I think Boots would be better footwear.
