Thinking outside the box is only beneficial if you're good at it.

When it comes to traditional high fantasy, your goal shouldn't be to arbitrarily reinvent the wheel. More important is your overall aesthetic - and how well you assimilate the traditional bits into that aesthetic. I'd love to see DA's take on more traditional caster regalia - mostly because it would still be DA's take.

On the flip side, I'm thoroughly bored with artists putting pants on people's heads in the name of originality. Someone needs to remind them that originality derives its value from its difficulty. You can't just do something no one's ever done before and declare yourself talented. It needs to be something that doesn't suck.

I wish that we get something like this
Mage 1
Mage 2
Mage 3
Mage 4 (oh w8 <_< lol)

And for head this

Please Bioware ;(

I like 1 & 3, & I don't understand why 4 wasn't in the game to start with. 2 looks good, but could easily be mistaken for a civilian get-up & the head item is definitely good. I suspect that Circlets, Tiaras, & Diadems didn't make it into the game because the Devs couldn't figure out how to make them behave in cooperation with the Hair, especially since the Hair has multiple choice.

I agree with the posters that think the robes are fine, but we really need more variety. I too was disappointed the first time I played the game and saw that all the robes we could buy or acquire out in the world were the same design recolored. I actually like the Libertarian's Cowl (I know, I know...you can beat me with wet fish now), what I don't like about it is that it matches absolutely zero of the mage's robes in the game. Also I don't mind the cone head hats, but I too wonder where are the deep hoods that mages usually wear.

So in short, I like the ideas they had in the game, but I want more designs to choose from. I too want to look awesome, beautiful, badassed, or what have you when I am destroying enemies. That also makes me think that there is really no scary looking robes for evil mages to wear either. I suppose the Chasind robes with the barbarian helmet could work, but not quite what comes to mind when thinking of an evil mage.

Definitely Mage 1 - that's what the Chasind Robe model should have been.

I'd like some robes that look a little more dark. I'm a bloodmage and I'm running around in a violet robe. Yeah that's intimidating.

It will be interesting to make a skin mod with tats and that is your "robe", but still have specs like +1 or whatever to spell-power or mana regen during combat, rune placements, etc... It goes back to the idea less amount of robes that one has, more spell / mana can flow -- why not just wear some "skin" to max the power? Also, make a robe based on this armor set.  This should be dark enough for a blood magi.

Something like the picture here could look cool, I doubt it would suit the do-gooder mage in my picture, I think the tevinter style robes look good on female characters anyway, but it would suit a maleficar quite nicely. Considering the stigma on mages in the DA world there ought to be at least one sinister looking robe.

Robe wariety would be great. My Amell is sticking to the Chasind Robes til the end of the game, because only they fit him.
We need moar "I'm EVIL, ****!" robes, that's for sure.
And why? WHY were there no hoods to go with the robes?!

I approve.
It looks very regal, forbidding and decadent.

I realise a lot of people are against sexy/skimpy armour but for me, if there can be a reason for that sexiness, then hurray for sexy I say.

Seeing that picture, I can imagine that outfit being the attire of a Tevinter high magister performing who knows what dark ceremonies in the glory-days of the Imperium.

I don't mind the furry shoulder robe, but it just looks very incongruous on say Morrigan, or Wynne. On someone like Caladrius though, it's downright amazing.

I wish DA had more variety as far as cloth and leather went.

lol.The headgear is awful.I actually really dislike my mages wearing it, Its just not attractive. I wish there was plenty of variety. The Warriors and Rogues get plenty of variety with the armour, At least give us dyes so that we can colour our clothes. I've always wanted to walk round in Morrigans robes.,its a bit poo that they're restricted to Morrigan only :(

Ive always wanted my mage to look like this http://i28.tinypic.com/14jq2oh.jpg

Should Dragon Age ever travel to Orlais, the devs will have no excuse not to have extravagant robes.

For now I can forgive them, because the opinion I got of Ferelden was that it was less concerned about stuff like that. Of course that's not the best excuse, and the lack of variety was terrible, but I have me a feeling that the next proper sequel will rectifiy a lot of these problems.

What I don't want is skimpy anime girl "robes". I'm having enough of a hard time trying not to gouge my eyes out already.

On that note, where do all of those bloody anime chicks get off acting all innocent and naive when their entire body is covered by about one square inch of fabric. It gets worse in that they usually have knockers the size of the moon.

I think one "good" thing about Dragon Age (so far) is that it is a very "traditional" Euro-centric fantasy so we're not going to see Final Fantasy NPCs and locales popping up here and there. I say that it's "good" not out of particular dislike for anime or anything; I just feel that modern fantasy is saturated by Oriental influence and it's nice to see Knights of the Round Table again.

Amine is cool, but to much of it can be bad --- What I really want skimpy "Euro-centric fantasy" type armor...

There is acres of source material for clothes, armour, working gear, etc in European history. It is shame more imagination wasn't used.

I would have loved to have seen the noble ladies, when not fighting, to be dressed in huge billowing skirts with low cut lace. Men at court were positive dandies - let's have cod pieces!

As for fighting kit, dark robes for rogues with hidden armour, shiny plate we got for knight type roles.

Mages could be a whole range of stuff, from ragged full bodied coverage to totally naked except for leather holding bits of bones and other yechy stuff. Some female mages would have beauty that would even give 'em a bonus on attack where others would be so ugly as to give the same!

I have done my best with the mods are available and it is these mods that make DA even more replayable for me. I think it is great that a toolkit has been made available, but from what I can gather from the folk that do the mods, there are some technical difficulties when trying to create new clothes, etc. I don;t profess to know the details of this, but if BW/EA could help those guys a bit, then, maybe, we get cooler stuff to wear.

One aspect of the SIMS 2 & 3 that I like is how easy to add "stuff" to the game via "package" files -- cars, cloths, chairs, etc -- to bad that DAO don't have something like for a store so that the player just add whatever to a store.
