Fictional racism in ME3 MP, where to draw the line? Hoping for a civil discussion...

My question is, where do you draw the line as far as disliking a race in ME3 MP? (If you dislike a race at all)
I would say I'm not happy when I have a Batarian on the team, but I'm not going to grief the player or anything over it. It's just a game after all. My mentality is that this is a fictional universe with fictional characters. I'm not going to refuse to play with someone because they choose to play a Krogan or threaten someone in real life over not liking my favorite character race.
Note: I didn't know whether racism was the word to use, but I figured people would get my point. Maybe specieism (Butchered that spelling) is the right one.

I only play with Geth squad mates if they are people I know. Otherwise, I just leave the lobby. The Geth are nothing but liars. Too many loopholes in logic. I'm proud to say that I do not support those who allied with the Reapers. For any reason.
by that logic you wouldn't play with humans seeing as TIM/Cerberus is all buddy buddy with the Reapers as well right?
as for me, I am getting out of here before the fire spreads.

For me that is.
When I zone into the match there's only one thing on my mind.

I despise the Salarians.
For the most part I care little for the Asari.
But that's simply a matter of the majority. I liked Mordin, and I like "Surfing" as the Batarian Sentinel (who I rarely play for any other Reason than to goof off...I'll probably use the Shaman adept in his place once its released.).
Regardless of what I think of the any race I won't begrudge someone for playing as them as they are (in the end) human controlled, on my team, and I feel obligated to keep my team alive. Thinking otherwise is blatant hate against someone who doesn't deserve it in any way: By clicking the Vote Kick button you aren't hating the Batarian, you're hating the person playing the Batarian.
And there's nothing redeeming about that.

In the game, the soldiers can't be racist, because they need all the help they can get. Shepard convinces a Batarian against killing humans out of vengeance.
We can be better than this.

Interesting hypothesis. A lot of people are racist and don't know it. Dat implicit racism.

Oh, silly you. I specifically said, "those who allied with the Reapers."The Geth have a hive mind mentality that causes them ALL to ally with the Reapers. Their entire collective allied with the Reapers. The Illusive Man and his cronies didn't force ALL of humanity to ally with the Reapers just by TIM letting them take over his brain, did it? Did Saren's agreement to work for the Reapers cause every Turian to believe the Reapers were their salvation?Oni Dark Clown wrote...

No. So if you made sense, I wouldn't be so facetious toward you.

If they add volus, I'll simply leave lobbies when I see a volus. They're an immersion breaker for me. I can't take the game seriously with them doing strike ops next to a krogan battlemaster. While it's certainly possible to take the game too seriously, I find it much more fun to RP at least in as far as putting myself in my character's shoes.

Must be something the console scrubs do. Never see that when playing with the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race.

I often make fun of my friends' characters and tease them. I do it too often and they think I hate Humans, Geth, and Salarians even though I play these races occasionally.

I dont' think I'm racist IRL. I just don't like Batarians because the only ones we've met are terrorists, slavers, or mercs. Bad impressions all around.

It's probably due to my own bias. I like jumping into and out of PUGs and changing charcters some all night. Even with friends we'll swap kits, or respec between matches. I like to, and like that I can, play with any of the six classes. I don't get bothered unless someone plays something that goes completely against the rest of the party and hurts it, but that can only be measured in-game. So that's really hating the player not the kit.

True enough. I'd argue that the Batarians that we use in multiplayer are an exception to an extent. There's also the Batarian you meet in ME 3 when working for Aria. Didn't seem like such a bad guy.
I understand why you don't like them though. Bioware seemed to go out of the way to reinforce the negative aspects of their personalities.

Deep fail.
Pyschological studies always show that everyone is racist. Yes, you, person going "not me!" Even babies have been shown to favor strangers of their own race over different ones. There is no question whether someone is subconsciously racist. They are. We all are. The difference is in conscious behavior and whether we embrace or shun base nature.

No. So if you made sense, I wouldn't be so facetious toward you.
While this is diverting majorly from the MP aspect of this discussion and I apologize TiM:
I can't blame the Geth for the decision. The Quarian attack 'killed off' many programs, limiting their thinking capacities and causing them to prioritize self-preservation. The Reapers gave them the means to save themselves, even if it meant destroying the Quarians and becoming 'tools' of the Reapers. I'd be tempted to take the offer myself If I could see no other way to save Humanity from a sudden Batarian invasion or something.
Mass Effect 2 showed us that even amongst the Geth there were sub-factions and differing opinions: The Heretics and the Geth. I found myself sympathizing with the Quarians up until I learned more of the Geth (which we had little of in ME1) and was downright disqusted by what they did to the Geth, and those who tried to protect them. It was the Quarians fault that the Geth rebelled, the Quarian's fault that they were forced from Rannoch, and it was their fault that the entirety of the Geth were forced to turn again to the Reapers.
But back to the Multiplayer aspect of things: I would not prioritize a Geth bleeding out or a Quarian bleeding out based soley on the character, but rather factors such as distance or the skill of the player.
Would you save the geth over the Quarian even though the Geth player was highly skilled and right next to you and the Quarian were far away and more of a burden than an asset to the team?

Glad to see someone else knows what they're talking about.
There's a difference between prejudice and discrimination. Some people need to learn the distinction. It is impossible to grow up in modern, western society and not be prejudiced at all. :innocent:
