Hi. My name is Meg. I’m an extremely novice modder (the DA toolset is really my first major foray into it) but I’ve managed to complete a playable module. It’s a demon play, set in a Templar’s subconscious, a murder mystery with 5 bad endings and one good.

My expertise is as a writer, and I just love the conversation editor, plot flags etc. I’d love to release this module, to get feedback from the wider community, but it is severely let down by my inability to get a handle on cinematics/levels etc. (And lack of time/energy to really put into it.)

I’d say the writing parts; journal, dialogue, quests are 85% set in stone. (Edit: To clarify - not planned; entered into toolset, tested, finished.) There are a few bits I need to tidy up, maybe change/edit, but I’m pretty happy with it. I’m interested to meet other novice modders, or experienced people who think helping out would be a lark, to take on smallish roles in an effort of friendly collaboration.

Good stuff

- You can play this module before you decide to contribute. I can email you a fully playable version with fairly bad
placeholder artwork and terrible cinematics, but it’s more than enough to get the idea.

- I’m no toolset expert, but I know enough to collect and implement the contributions myself. You literally just have to do your own part and send it on. (I can’t really help you do your part. I’ve already done a dodgy version of your part, though, so I can help a little. I really need people who are just slightly better, or heaps better, at it than me, at this stage.)

- Technically, it’s finished, so we can definitely release it, if we like, with all due credits etc. Show off your
level/characters/fan art in a released module.

- It’s small and bite sized – 25 mins of content.Your part shouldn’t take a *very* long time to complete.

- I’m working on a couple of other things that are gently extending my knowledge of the toolset, so if we get on well, we can move forward together.

Potential turn off

This module is not like Dragon Age: Origins. There’s no combat, levelling, inventory etc. It’s a collection of dialogues that unlock other dialogues. Think of it like an interactive story/adventure. Also, I tried my best but it may not be 100% lore accurate. It’s more of an interpretation of lore.

The requirements for a level creator

Room 1: Templar’s bedroom.

Room 2: A room in which a dream is taking place, set in the Fade. (Like, with the fuzzy stuff.) There needs to be a stage large enough for 6 people, one who will lie down (dead) and an audience of 8.

The requirements for a cinematic contributor

No cutscenes.

- Setting stages and cameras for 5-10 major dialogues. (We’ll tackle them from most important to least and see how we go.)

- Making complex dialogue (like between 6 characters) look coherent and “like a play/performance.”

- Providing feedback on level and character design to others, to assist with composition.

The requirements for a fan artist

- The provision of five (more, if it’s working out well) artworks, to be used as slides (like in Origins’ epilogue.)

- The style must gel with level design, it probably shouldn’t be completely independent of that.

- The content is negotiable, but I have a pretty clear idea of what I want for each slide; some of demon/human hybrid characters, for example.

The requirements for a maker of NPCs

- One female Templar (protagonist.)

- One Tranquil woman (familial resemblance to Templar.)

- 6 audience members (various, including elven etc)

- 5 hybrid characters. So, for example, there is a desire demon playing a Circle Mage. Depending on expertise, he could be a custom model (preferred) or just a Circle Mage (still fine.)

Thanks for reading. I know there aren’t as many people around as there once were, although there are still big
projects underway. If you know someone who might want a bite-sized diversion, let them know?

Again, feel free to PM me and ask for a playable .dazip. It’s been bugtested by several people. (Although, I found one tonight. :P Nothing major.)

This sounds like a great project for people to learn new skills. I'm a little overwhelmed by how much learning I'm already experiencing, but I hope that those who have time will contact Firky/Meg!

Thanks!

I want it to be an opportunity for the less experienced amoung us to focus on one area with a view to actually releasing something. (Which I think is important for all creative endeavours.)
