My faith in PC gaming has been diminishing over time. I've been PC gaming for over a decade now, and I have never been so disappointed in all that time until now. Developers target consoles because most gamers own either a 360 or PS3, that being said there are also serious piracy issues that just can not be dealt with. On top of those "concerns", developing for a console can be much simpler with the hardware's limitations already known and they don't need to compensate for things such as 64bit OS' and Crossfire/SLI.

Damn shame to be honest.

theres no piracy concerns if you make the game account linked download only ala steam, origin is so bad people found a way to disable it and blackhole the connection attempts, there is no good reason for games not to be designed to run on pc and then dumbed down for console's

which is bizzarly the exact oposite of anything EA has been involved wiht for many years.

to many games are now being produced for the fremium/pay to win modle that there all doing relitvly poorly there all filling some niche or another but the choices available are making more and more people not play console ports at all in favour of browser based games which is pretty sad scince there generally pathetic in terms of graphic potential.

serious developers shied away from this idea for several years and it bit them on the ass which is why EA bought so many studios and Gazillion enterprizes bought the rest (there both garbage companies) and why ever so called major game release has flopped in the last 4 years,

then you get a game like me3 it sold a lot of copies and has a lot of people who play it regularly (more than 100k on xbox alone) which is now costing BW in terms of providing support when there parent company didnt envisage things working out this way.

personally i'm glad even wiht the buggy net code and problems associacted generally wiht origin its a decent fps co-op shooter, i'd like ot see the bugs fixed but i dnt expect that to happen because in terms of playerbase pc is the smallest nook, i'll settle for me4mp not having the same issues at launch as this one did, if not then i guess my me experiance will come to an end in much the same way as my c&c time came to an end when EA corrupted everything into a console port and removed the eye candy in the process (they should of stuck wiht the renegade option for that) ........

Last I heard the plan for next gen consoles were to use cards a year or more old

one of them is going wiht the amd mobile 7xxx 1gig gpu and another has confimed it is going to use the mobile version of the nvidia 550 gtx 512mb

i'd expect that to have been a contributing factor as to why the 7 series cards were in such short supply when they launched as the stockpiling had already begun, feel sorry for psx users though there getting one of nvidia's most bugged out offerings in a while (ok so maybe thats a lil harsh but unless the vreg was substancialy rejigged then expect those things to be lasting about 3 months before going pop)

i loved the gfx when i got them though but the same problem will keep coming around, added ot that its the middle of a major recessin so unless all hose new consoles are backwards compatable with existing games on the market there wont be many sales given the predicted entry price of 500+ when you cna get a more than decent desktop replacemtn or indeed desktop solution for less, which will be substantially mroe usefull ot the average person :)

It's delightful to see that BioWare have failed to give any form of response....

This thread will get buried like every other PC issue related thread. Better get used to it when you buy an EA game.

I tried to ask Bryan Johnson about the PC port in his "Meet Bryan" thread, but like all the other Bioware developers he just ignored it and continued answering some goofy "what's your favorite X" questions.

You know this kind of lack of communication _really_ is the worst thing. Hell, I would even prefer a simple "NO" without any argumentation as a response than this agonizing ignoring. Are Bioware developers just laughing behind their monitors and getting strange satisfaction whenever they get to see PC gamers' eternal pleas and begs? Or perhaps it is EA that has given the "Ten commandments" for its each of its developers and the 1st would be "Thou shalt not try to improve PC ports in any circumstances"?

Probably the most insane part is that ME1 had some neat PC port features such as hotkeys and UI changes at a time when it was still Microsoft releasing the game. So the code WAS THERE! All mass effect games use UT3 as an engine so large parts of the code transfered from one game to another. Now think about this: Someone deliberately, intentionally REMOVED hotkey support for ME2! Does this sound like a rational thing to do? Is Bioware actually TRYING to make PC port as sloppy as possible?

This really isn't a time or resource related issue. Making DLC's takes 100x more time than making small adjustments for PC port. You know, there are numerous able coders amongst mass effect players. Each one of them (me included) could write some basic PC port features in no time if we were given the original source code. And I bet we would do it for free. These Bioware guys are supposed to be experienced professionals yet this is were we are at.

Maybe I should apply for a job at Bioware if it is the only way to find out about this crazy EA policy. And then I would get fired when i copy&paste EA's secret ten commandments to reddit :P

---

BTW this thread wasn't moved to General Section. Maybe we should try to make a new one?

The PC port of ME1 was handled by Demiurge. So I doubt Bioware had any PC binding code at hand.

But after all the post-ME2 threads pleading the devs for keyboard shortcuts, it is a let-down that they handled ME3 like they did ME2.

I don't think Bioware is trying to make PC ports more sloppy, it's just that when they decide how to do thing they aim to spend as little money as possible. Knowing that many players will buy the game blindly (maybe not so much anymore) why would they bother spending time and resource optimizing ONE version of the game when they can simply making three identical copies ?

In the short term it's a sound business practice. But in the long term you risk alienating your player base, which is what seems to begin to happen.

This definately isn't a sound business practice. As I said it takes less than 1 % of the development time or budget to make some small PC port enhancements YET this alone would greatly boost Bioware's reputation on PC community and result in much less hate reviews in metacritic. So i feel Bioware is repeatingly shooting itself on the foot for no particular reason. All Casey would need to do is to assign one guy to make these required changes in pc version and the whole problem would be over in a week or so. These PC port features can just as well be released in a patch after the official release, so is there a reason NOT to do it? It has already been 7 months after the release, believe me, they have had the time to do it. It's a question of will, not money or time.

This is why I think next year will be time for me to update my 5 year old multi media computer (needed it from graphic design instead of games at the time.)  Since I'm not in that field any more other than as a hoby I'm going to be building the next one as a gamer platform.

I think the authencation fo DLC prob with PC is they don't think that unlike consals we aren't alwlays plugged into the internet 24/7.  I travel and lay my games alot on my work laptop.  I don't alwlays have the greatest internet and some times go without if I"m in a hotel that charges for it over seas.  Can't stand I can't play some of my ME3 game saves cause they ahve DLC attached to them that can't be reauthencated ever time I start up a new game.

As far as textures go, they probably wouldn't need to make new ones, but rather just have the textures uncompressed. The textures look the way they do because of compression settings, not because of their resolution.

when will i and other paid pc customers be out of escalation case no . purgatory when is the almighty patch arriving to fix add on shop for dlc . its been 2.5 months already. iam sick of the way i get blamed that its my laptops all the time at my end i had no problem with getting dlc till a patch snafu prior to leviathon. had to beg for a month for leviathon to be added and the gun pack despite having waited 3 days after release of leviathon etc made sure had enough bioware points etc and money on prepaid visa. whereas mass effect 2 which i bought as digital download and all dlc wiht no dramas. still no paypall support back. Origin is reminding me of why i don't deal with amazon anymore. tried to buy Madden 13 for vita online big mistake atleast they didn't bill me but not good enough if you want to have online shop make it work . when customers pay and cant axcess what paid for it just isn't good enough shouldn't matter where iam in the world and customer support for Australila and New Zealand is broken. Have to deal with EA help U.S. for tech help and supporrt they try but would help if other more local support helped take the burden of them. Unfortunately from bitter expierence Mass Effect 3 for pc was rushed out with several design oversights and flaws, this is fact. i love playing it when it works but when it doesn't . its less stable than gta iv the complete edition on pc initialy gtai4 eflc was terrible for unstabillity etc now it doesn't crash my laptops at all. unfortunately i cant say the same for Mass effect3 collector editon. its funnily enough how i start on mass effect the series with no 3 got sick of the modsters on gta . the game failed i don't mod but had too weight for techs to bring patch then reinstall use cclean apply patch blah blah took hrs was painfull. so while waiting for the patch and instructions to fix, started playing here it was before all the ending silliness war happen. the only ending i dissprove and disgusts me is "control Sheperd reaper ending "yuck sell out and betray every one talk about indoctrinatated and that horrible indoctrinated starkid... enough for now good posts. :) hope every ones issue wishes are resolved im optimistic ( though don't ask me to put a wager on it lol) bye for now " AsariRenegade 01" out.......

I'll try to interpret that, but I suggest you use some paragraphs next time. As for your PC having issues with this game it could be helpful to post your system specs, otherwise, I don't know what kind of issue you are having.

If you're starting the Mass Effect series for the first time, I would suggest that you play Mass Effect 1 first, followed by Mass Effect 2, and finally Mass Effect 3 to get the full experience.

As for the ending, I can say without a doubt, after a full 40 hour playthrough of Mass Effect 3 including all the conversations and missions, the ending is not a bug that needs to be fixed. It is as Bioware intended. The Extended Cut did clear some things up, but it is not a bug or a defect in the game.

There is a legitimate bug where the game crashes with the Leviathan and Extended Cut installed during the Starchild scene, but other then that, I haven't found any actual bugs.

Something which may be considered a bug during the ending could be one of the many examples of "non-literal storytelling"  as said by some of Bioware's developers, but they are not defects in the game.
