So I see that DLC can be downloaded while playing the game. That's great! I'm still playing the very opening origin story for my character, since Steam took FOREVER to download with my tiny connection, and Shale's taking forever to download too.

I don't want to miss -anything- with this content, so at what point do Shale DLC items/plots start showing up in game? I'd love to know so I can stop playing before I reach that point until the DLC is downloaded.

Once you finish Lothering (maybe 5-10 hours in, depending how obsessively you poke around in corners), you can travel freely. That's the first point at which you can begin the Shale-acquisition quest. If you get that far and still haven't downloaded Shale, you won't miss much so long as you pick any destination besides Orzammar (Frostback Mountain Pass), which is where Shale's personal plot takes place. If you pick another destination before getting Shale, the only thing you'll miss is Shale's interjections in conversations (and a small chance of Shale-specific items dropping).

Okay, So I have a question regarding The stone prisoner DLC, does Shale have his own side plot/quest and if so how do you go about triggering it?

Bring Shale with you when you go to the Anvil of the Void. If you don't feel like doing that, then after the Orzammar questline is finished, if your approval is high enough with it, talk to Shale in camp and it'll start a dialogue that leads into its personal quest.

A minor detail that doesn't matter to most probably is that sometimes the crows/ravens on a map will follow Shale around. This happens at Soldier's Peak, for example, but I've not seen it occur elsewhere.

Like Bam said, bring Shale to the Void. It changes the entire encounter.

Look for a map marker to Sulcher's Pass.

It's a gold square featuring a wagon and it should be on the west edge of the map, south of the mountain pass into Orzammar.

IIRC, you should also get a journal update for "Premium Content" with a quest name "Sulcher's Pass" once the addon is successfully enabled.
