Hi, I was trying to uninstall my game because the 1.5 patch couldn't find it and told me to uninstall and redownload, but when I tried to uninstall from both the launcher and the control panel, it said it couldn't find it as well. Now, I've obviously been able to play it and I know where it is, so I'm lost as to why the computer can't find it.

Appreciate any help or explanation as to this mystery.

Sorry you're having issues. In order to help, we'll need to get a lot more detail from you. Please read the *READ FIRST* thread pinned towards the top of the forums. That details all of the info people need to help troubleshoot... and where/how to find it.

Fair enough then, to repost with more detail:

I own the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition, digitally acquired from Amazon.com. It is currently running on the 1.04 patch, and has DLC authorization issues. Looking on this site, it said to download 1.05 to solve that problem. Did so, and was told by the patch that it doesn't recognize the game. I thought this might be because of the game's location (E Drive), and moved it back to C: , though initially outside Program Files. I tried again, and it said nope, so I moved it into Program Files. Still no.

At this point, I decided just to do what the pop-up when running 1.05 suggest and uninstall and redownload the game from Amazon. Which is when the game's uninstaller in the launcher told me that the game itself didn't exist. I went to control panel after reading it as a suggestion as to install it, but got the same response from there. On a hunch, I tried the same with DA2 and got the same response.

Not sure if this is relevant, but I'm running both games on a Toshiba Satellite L500 laptop model, and I downloaded the game through Mozilla Firefox.

Ah. Thank you, that indeed helps. I am not familiar with Amazon's download system, but I assume it places the game in a different location on your hard drive than where the retail/EA Origins version does-- which is why the patch couldn't find it to begin with.

A second problem: Moving the game files manually causes a whole host of issues (as you've discovered) because, while you moved the game files, the Windows registry keys still point to the old locations. Hence the reason why it could not find the game when you went to uninstall it.

A possible solution:

**Before you begin, locate the CD Key that came with the game. This was probably sent to you in an e-mail from Amazon.

1. delete all the game files from your system, except your character files, if you have any; you can back those up. They are located by default in the folder My Documents>BioWare>Dragon Age> Characters.

2. Use a registry cleaner like CCleaner to remove the old Dragon Age registry keys. Do this with caution, as you can really screw up your system if you remove keys for other programs. Once you've cleaned out all the references to Dragon Age, you should reboot your machine.

3. Re-download the game. You have two options here. First, you can re-download via Amazon's service, although I don't know if you'll be able to apply the 1.05 patch, regardless of which hard drive you install it on. Second, you can download and install EA's Origin client, and enter in your game's CD key into it. This will allow you to download and install the game directly from EA-- once that's done, you can apply the 1.05 patch (you still have to do that manually, even using EA Origin). Also, with DA:O, you do not need to launch it from Origin... it will run off the desktop like any retail copy of the game.

There are further details in the PC Tech FAQ and Solutions Round-up, which are linked below in my sig.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Will try the solution after this, but I just wanted to say that I did try installing it from Origin (even made an account just for it), but it kept saying it was too busy and that I should try again later, so I ended up doing so from Amazon.

Raen, you are a genius among men. Took me a few hours to finish the download, but right as I did it I followed up with the patch and everything is working just fine. Just one final question: Can I move the folder from C: to D: or E: and not have any problems in the future? It's kind of dangerously full and I use that drive for a lot of other things like uni work...

No, you can't move the actual game files without causing a train wreck. You can, however, change the location where Windows saves your My Documents folders, which will include the save games you accumulate while playing... that might save you a few gigabytes, at least. It's fairly easy to do but I don't recall off the top of my head how to do it... you may need to do a Google search.
