I thought that was the point of him not being able to die in DA2. Trying to use a different narrator for DA3 would be like trying to put The Joker in a Batman movie that isn't going to be played by Keith Ledger.
1. Heath Ledger.
2. Jack Nicholson was the Joker before Heath, and Caesar Romero was the Joker before Jack.
3. I agree, Varric must return.

Also Heath is dead. So if the Joker is ever going to be in a batman movie in the future, it can't be him.

But yes, I'd say it's likely we'll see Varric again.

The point of him not dying is that he was narrating the story. He can't really tell Cassandra what happened if he died now, could he?
Zombie Varric, anyone?

Given that Varric is one of the very few
companions (along with Leliana and Aveline, I believe) from DAO,
Awakening, or DA2 that is guaranteed to be alive, my guess is it's
pretty likely.
I'm sure Morrigan is also guranteed.

Morrigan can be killed in the Witch Hunt dlc.

IIRC correctly, that option in Withc Hunt is a bit.... ambiguous....

No one survives the murder knife
Edit: At any rate, Varric i nunambiguously alive and involved (via his tale to Cassandra) in the Chantry war. So yeah I'd say he is fairly likely to make an appearance.

Where does this view come from that DA III will have a narrator? The framed narrative was a mistake and isn't a natural fit for Dragon Age in my opinion and I believe it's been confirmed that it won't make a return for DA III.
But yes, I'd say it's likely we'll see Varric again.
The framed narrative in DA2 was executed badly, agreed. I doubt they'll use that in DA3.
That being said, there will probably be a narrator. Even DA:O had one (Duncan, and he was every bit as good as Varric). It will be one of the key characters of DA3. If Varric will be in, it's possible Bioware uses him again.
Cassandra could be a good choice assuming that she would have the same voice actress as in DA2. It might be a completely new character with a charismatic voice. Voice acting in Bioware games is always stellar, so this isn't really something I'm worried about.

I agree we probably won't see that technique used again, but I will disagree on one point-- I don't think the frame was bad at all. It was the narrative *within* the frame that was poorly executed.
Still, I agree that it is unlikely the devs will limit themselves in that particular way again, especially if the game is to have more of an "open world" field, as has been reported sporatically in the gaming press.
EDIT: And yes, I too would like to see Varric back again in some capacity. His involvement with the current comic book storyline makes it more likely, I hope.

It's left very vague, the option for the murder knife to kill someone is always "(kill) not "(attack)" and lastly, I find it very unlikely that Bioware will let one dlc (who not every DA fan will have) decide the faith of a major character.

I cant help but compare it to Alpha Protocol who did it so much better, the interview with the main baddie that truly reacted to your choices, play style and relationships.
It wasnt to bad though, just nothing to write hom about, Varric's voice acting helped.
