I cant help but compare it to Alpha Protocol who did it so much better, the interview with the main baddie that truly reacted to your choices, play style and relationships.

It wasnt to bad though, just nothing to write hom about, Varric's voice acting helped.

Agreed.  Framed narrative can work well.  It just didn't in this particular case.

Varric is really the only person they could bring back as a party member without any issue coming up or needing any kind of ignoring the older story.

It'd be as easy as saying, "We need your help to find Hawke, what's that? No... okay, then we kill you." And Varric would jump to in a heart beat. If Cassandra is a party member then this a clear way to drop in Varric, she kidnapped him once before. lol

Depending on how the comic goes, Varric could have another angle on being involved...

Varric rocks. So of course he'd return.

Also he's a Bard (sort of) and a Marksman. Very useful skills to have in an era like this.

I'd love him to come back. He was awesome. Easily the best companion in DA2.

I'd like him to be an LI, too. Do I get to say that? I haven't asked for anybody else to be an LI yet, I don't think. I'm pretty sure you get one free LI request on the BSN, right?

It is known.

At any rate, for some reason I'd just . . .  assumed that Varric would return as a companion in DA3. Which is silly, considering how little we know about the game. I suppose I just figured he'd be one of the easiest characters to have show up again.

And he's completely awesome. Gods, I'd love to have Varric back.

How is this known?

Granted, I haven't been on the DA boards like I have in the past, but if it was known that he would return, why am I not seeing a Varric in DA3 thread?

Who has confirmed this?

Apologies; I assumed that the originial author was making a "Song of Ice and Fire" reference. Nothing has actually been confirmed. ^_^

I thought that was the point of him not being able to die in DA2. Trying to use a different narrator for DA3 would be like trying to put The Joker in a Batman movie that isn't going to be played by Keith Ledger.

1. Heath Ledger.

2. Jack Nicholson was the Joker before Heath, and Caesar Romero was the Joker before Jack.

3. I agree, Varric must return.

Also Heath is dead. So if the Joker is ever going to be in a batman movie in the future, it can't be him.

Mark Hamill did the voice of Joker in all the cartoons and the games up until Arkham City. If anyone 'is the Joker' it would be him.

I would like Varric to return, though, at least as an NPC the PC can meet. I don't feel that DA3 will be a narrated story, though. In fact, I think the plot will be based just after Varric told Cassandra about Hawke.

They probably were. Since I haven't read that, I wouldn't have gotten that.

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought I was seriously behind on my DA3 info. :D

Personally, I'd enjoy my PC telling Cassandra (if she were a companion) to go interrogate Varric, only to have her do so and then recruit him afterwards. ^_^

Or something. The party banter for having them both present simultaneously in the party would be hilarious, anyway.

Companions likely to show up again (not necessarily as companions, just in general) are Leliana, Morrigan, Varric, Isabela, and Aveline.

Leliana is almost certainly going to play a role, and if you don't romance her and don't do the ritual, Morrigan's ending slide says something about someone who looks an awful lot like her advising the Empress of Orlais. Varric (for obvious reasons), Isabela, and Aveline cannot be killed in DA2 so they're the most likely from that game to be used for things again.

I would love to see Varric again, he was a great BFF companion. And a good narrator, of course. So was Duncan, who you may recall continued to narrate the conclusion of Origins from beyond the grave, LOL.

I look forward to hearing from another new, kick-ass narrator in DA3. New PC, new host. Varric could have a cameo or two. Makes sense to me!

I sure hope so. Varris and my Hawke were bros for life. It'd be a tragedy if he was gone.

Seeing as it isn't possible for him to die in DA2 I would not be surprised at all I he and his chest hair showed up again.

The framing narrative was cool in DA II, but I don't see any reason for it to be used again. That said, I would LOVE to see Varric return as a party member!!

Varric is the only thing that saved my copy of DA2 from being burned. The fact that you can't romance him was making me have second thoughts about the burning.

I really hope to have again him as a companion in DA3, not only see him to say "HI!"

Don't understand the ones who want the seeker...Cassandra? is that the name of the scary girl of the Chantry? I am indifferent to her...if she is in DA3, i hope she would be presented a little more, because I still can't see her as such a charming character to wish to have her as a companion...

1) Woops.

2) I saw both play the Joker. Heath was a lot better then both of them and I doubt anyone who plays the Joker in the future will hold a candle to him.

I hope so! As a character Varric had great balance: not too whiny, not too grim, not too joke-full... Really liked him in DA2.

Knowing Varric he might follow the protagonist of DA3 just so he has someone to tell stories about now that he isn't following Hawke around.

The only thing I'm worried about is Bioware bringing Varric back the same way they brought Zevran and Alistar back in DA2. I think it would be interesting to have Varric play a role as a companion in any future Dragon Age game.

I always play as the sarcastic Hawke and Varric always makes Hawke's comments so much funnier.

You assumed correctly! I've really gotta stop doing that, too many people even on these boards don't get the reference. :P

Varric would be a kickass addition to DA3 imo, he was one of the few that chars in DA2 that really stood out!

Varric is my favorite Dragon Age character so far, so I'm definitely hoping we'll see more of him.
