Everquest II group sample: 7,000 logged in players over a year period (That's a nice sample)

Average player age: 31 (Who said again that only kids play videogames)
Time girls logged on average per week: 29 hours (25 hours for boys ) Image IPB

Time top female players logged per week: 57 hours (51 hours for male gamers)

Older gamers tended to spend more hours on the game per week (They ain't getting bored)

Age isn't the only thing women tend to lie about, according to the survey. More women than men responded that they lied to their friends and loved ones about how much time they played.  ( No comments Image IPB )

I wonder what the Dragon Age Origins male/female players ratios are.

Everquest is well known for having a large female user base. Just that is enough to draw in more females wanting to avoid "OMG a girl!" moments...

I just flat out refuse to ever play an MMO.

Interesting info regardless though. I think there are a lot more female gamers than people realize. They just don't advertise so they aren't bothered online.

I've never played Everquest, or any MMO, but this doesn't surprise me. =D

Heh, I arranged a real-life meet with three "guys" I met over WoW - only to find out when we spoke on Ventrilo to arrange the details that I was in fact the only guy in the quartet.

I don't think that more time spent online is equal to being more hardcore though; most of the girls I met in WoW spent more time socializing or did fun things rather than slaying dragons all night.

What we need is a quantifiable metric by which we can determine what qualifies as "hardcore."

Or not. It *is* just videogames, after all.

Ahem, that should read Male RPGers not as obsessed with non-game aspects of the RPG as Female RPGers. If they actually looked at gold/xp earned you'd probably find that the Male RPGers still come out ahead.

I used to play an MMO with my friend and his wife, she was terrible at the game, but completely evil and a joy to play with.

I used to work with a gal whose daughter played EQ constantly to the point of having to be reminded to do other things. She was always bringing visitors from various places (Canada, Denmark...) to the office to meet us. Definitely more hardcore than myself in that regard.

I still play eq2. the only MMO to hold my attention because of the depth.

Yes, I am female. Yes, I play a lot. I'd call myself hard core. I raid, I min max, etc. The thing about eq2 is that as opposed to many other MMOs out there (ahem, wow), there is an abundance of "non-combat" things you can do to occupy your time. Crafting actually has a purpose and is useful, player housing is infinitely customizable, and the guild system, especially guild halls, are the best-designed i've ever seen. And I've tried a lot of MMOs.

It's too bad it lost the popularity war to wow, because it is an infinitely better game.

EQ is awful though and nobody cares about it. What about wow stats? I bet more guys play it.

How isn't slaying dragons fun? lol

The one's that are socialising are not gamers then are they, they should be off fraternising on second life or some other avatar bull****.

MMOs take up your life. I prefer to play something that has an end.

I myself play, and I know heaps of females that play wow, all of them are like lvl 80's and I always feel left out though Because I am only lvl 62. I started playing too late because for such a long time I was like "I m not paying someone to play a damn GAME!" but then my friend gave me a free trial and I really loved it.

I don't understand why anyone cares what someone's gender is in a video game, does it really matter that much?

Everquest is the most female-saturated MMO in existence.

Last time I played an MMO I ended up quitting real fast, because of whiny 13 year olds on vent asking "if tey can haz it". So much better now.-_-

I think this is probably true, but the findings here are still surprising. I'm all for it, moar hardcore female gamers please. Though I would like it if it was more than just WoW. I have a hard time calling people that just play WoW and Farmville gamers.

I think it really depends who the gamer is:

Some guy passed out in a line into a game store when the new WoW expansion came out. That isn't hardcore though thats obsession.

How do you even know that the "girls" you play with are even girls

pretending to be a girl in wow gets you gold

I think there is a difference between "Hardcore gamer" and "Hardcore MMOer" to be quite honest. MMOs are an entirely different beast that standard video/computer games. To judge whether or not someone is a 'hardcore gamer' I think they need to play more than one game, really.

Not trying to say a woman can't be just as hardcore as a man, but I don't think that can be properly judged based on a single game.
