Heh, I arranged a real-life meet with three "guys" I met over WoW - only to find out when we spoke on Ventrilo to arrange the details that I was in fact the only guy in the quartet.
I don't think that more time spent online is equal to being more hardcore though; most of the girls I met in WoW spent more time socializing or did fun things rather than slaying dragons all night.

How isn't slaying dragons fun? lol

The one's that are socialising are not gamers then are they, they should be off fraternising on second life or some other avatar bull****.

Fun little side note while on WOW I was convinced to check out second life because someone I had beaten into submission and forced to play with me cause they just couldn't understand why I spend so much time there, pointed out it would only be fair I did.

Turns out not only does it suck but it has these stupid little gambling places where you lose all your money and conveniently placed are these 'dancer' places where you basically strip for more money. So there were tons of broken ppl all stripping for money to go and gamble in that place.

It's pretty funny actually.

I was there for less than fifteen minutes and wanted to kill myself. I don't understand the point of a place like second life. As stated above dragon slaying is fun!

Everquest II group sample: 7,000 logged in players over a year period (That's a nice sample)

Average player age: 31 (Who said again that only kids play videogames)
Time girls logged on average per week: 29 hours (25 hours for boys ) Image IPB

Time top female players logged per week: 57 hours (51 hours for male gamers)

Older gamers tended to spend more hours on the game per week (They ain't getting bored)

Age isn't the only thing women tend to lie about, according to the survey. More women than men responded that they lied to their friends and loved ones about how much time they played.  ( No comments Image IPB )

Full article and study source on DailyTech

I wonder what the Dragon Age Origins male/female players ratios are.

Well girls don't have skill like us guys..Santa Clause dominates everyone. Probably those females are trying to find a 'man'

Define Hardcore.

To me "playing hardcore" is also playing games developed by people like Philipe Tibault (Vainglory of Nations) or my other fave game company besides Bioware: Paradox.

I have not to meet a female that plays Europa Universalis or Hearst of Iron.

Hardcore would be sitting straight for 20+ hours. Playing super mario bros, or Grand theft auto without concern for food or washroom breaks

females don't usually play RTS, their brains cannot handle it and not much chance to show off or gain attention from men (usually lack of forums or achievements) online. RTS games are where intelligent men fight each other using tactics and not simple click - reaction gameplay.

It's not their fault, they just weren't made with those sort of mental faculties.

They were optimized for simpler things like choosing the prettiest shoes at the store.

Most of the male games I know neither play stuff from Paradox because it´s not "visualy rewarding" and often times, it feels like playing an Excell file due to the massive amount of variables to take in consideration.

Sadly, many strategy players consider that Total War series as the peak of strategy or  even worse; Civilization! Sorry but we grognards tend to like stuff such as Panzer General, Victoria or Europa Universalis to be more thrilling.

I do not think that genres are "gender bound" but still, the fact is that hardcore strategy is played by a really small amount of females.

I find it rather sad that there are males in here saying that women have smaller mental facilities for what games they play. Are your manhoods really that threatened by female players? I also find it hilarious that some of these same men think that we females play to find men. I would love to play against any of your in a RTS or a FPS.

Also as a Psychology major, I would like to refute the idea that women's brains cannot handle RTS. I'd LOVE to know where you get your facts. So please, stick to the facts boys. We don't play to impress you nor are we any less mentally capable of playing any games.

In my case, I do not consider C&C series, Warcraft, AOE and similar games as strategy; they´re a click fest with nice graphics.

You couldn't have put your sense of humor anywhere, because you don't have one. READ: Psychs don't comprehend humor.

I.E. you would have realized that the statement "optimized for picking the prettiest shoes" to be utterly ridiculous and laughable, and the poster could not have possibly been serious, well that is if you weren't a psych.

Do you happen to have any research to back that up?
I might laugh at sentences like that if I haven't met people who truly think like that. *shrug*

Everquest is well known for having a large female user base. Just that is enough to draw in more females wanting to avoid "OMG a girl!" moments...

*laugh*  I think you may want to read more articles by Blizzard and other analysis.  There is a lot of evidence from much more than "Everyquest II" that there are much more female gamers than the "cyber myth" you speak of relates.  In fact, one Blizzard study showed the super-majority of female characters in Warcraft were played by actual women.  Of course, I expect many to disregard what I just said out of hand because they would much prefer that men be beyond female toons for some strange reason...

Should I know about what you have or have not played? Most of the people associate RTS to the previously posted games. You have not played them; kuddos; that´s time you save.

LOL PSYCHOLOGY MAJOR, COOL ACHIEVEMENT BRO.

and name me one RTS that you play, then tell me why women do not prefer RTS and would rather play MMOS or RPGS
