What does it matter what games you play, or your gender?

If you play games that's good enough for me. No need to get all sexist, elitist, and hardcore.

There's more to it than that, but I don't wanna write a term paper.

Go on; I like well reasoned answers.

~Pops in~ One of my friends excels at RTS games. She in fact convinced me to buy Europa Universalis III when I had no idead it existed. She also bought me two RTS games for my last birthday. She is great at them.

I also think the definition of what is hardcore and what isn't varies from person to person. In my opinion hardcore is person that keeps up with gaming on all platforms, buys as many of the latest games they can afford, and masters several of them. Not simply finishes them, but masters them to a degree that they memorize it, learn most, if not all the game's secrets and excels at playing them. That's possible in any genre and by my definition, necessitates crossing over several.

I doubt there is an agreed upon definition for hardcore, however. As there is no real definition for what a casual gamer is. This whole argument is inherently flawed without common ground everyone can start from. ~Pops out~

She failed at it, actually. While I was convinced it was a worthwhile purchase through her words, I ended up throwing it atop my backlog of yet to be played games which numbers in the high double digits. :? I'll get around to it... eventually. Seems to be what I say about 99.9% of games I own these days. She does play it though and spoke to me enthusiastically about once or twice.

Then she goes off and buys me Empire: Total War and another RTS game that escapes me, when I haven't got around to EUIII. Gah. :o I *did* appreciate those gifts. Now all I need to do is get to them. :P

there is no problem with females in the gaming community.

However, most girl gamers seem to use their gender as a tool. Simply because they have vaginas, they think they are special and should be treatred specially. A guy will make a video blog on his headshots in an fps, and people will give feedback, praise, and constructive criticism. A girl will make a video blog, CLEARLY STATE that she has a vagina, and make a video on situations that even a 10 year old kid can handle. She is given much attention and praise. Whenever a girl accomplishes something in the gaming community, her gender automatically multiplies her attention.

Many girls don't understand where the true classic gameplay elements came from, and prefer to play video games with large communities, flashy graphics, and friendly stories. I have not seen a single female ever play the classics: GTA, Half life, diablo, super mario bros, doom, fallout, halo 1 (hell even this is now outdated in terms of graphics), and I very rarely see girls in the RTS or RTT community

Speaking of Paradox games, I happen to have Europa Universalis: Rome, the gold edition. I rather enjoy it.

My dear boy, you have mentioned a bunch of games that I enjoy. GTA, Super Mario Brothers, Doom, Fallout, and Halo. I also enjoy Boarderlands. I think your sweeping generalizations is where you lose people. Your arguments have faulty logic. *shrug*
Also, I hate that there are girls who expect to be treated lightly. I want equality, not special treatment. I don't want some guy thinking that because I'm a girl he needs to go easy on me or that because I have a vagina I'm somehow instantly a worse player. I've been playing games from a very young age starting with games such as Ghouls and Ghost ( I think that was the name) to now with games like Boarderlands, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, etc. You ask why girls like games with stories? I wasn't aware that only they did. I believe that many people enjoy games with a story, something that you can invest hours in and feel like you are gaining something. *shrug*

I am actually very, very proud to have contributed to a lot of stuff regarding Celtiberians. The only thing I couldn´t do was changing the anagram for the Vaccaei, my actual people (yes, I´m from the capital of the province they are settled and I excavated remains of that culture for 5 years).

Like I said, consider yourself a double rarity; Paradox is quite "underground" in comparison to Creative Assembly and other "big boys" in the strategy world; and also not many females play those games.

Well...don't you think it's the stereotype that most people hold towards women that make whatever she accomplished seem grand?

I've played many of the games on your list of classics, and then some, and I'm a girl. Don't see the point you are trying to make?

Heh, I arranged a real-life meet with three "guys" I met over WoW - only to find out when we spoke on Ventrilo to arrange the details that I was in fact the only guy in the quartet.
I don't think that more time spent online is equal to being more hardcore though; most of the girls I met in WoW spent more time socializing or did fun things rather than slaying dragons all night.

How isn't slaying dragons fun? lol

The one's that are socialising are not gamers then are they, they should be off fraternising on second life or some other avatar bull****.

Fun little side note while on WOW I was convinced to check out second life because someone I had beaten into submission and forced to play with me cause they just couldn't understand why I spend so much time there, pointed out it would only be fair I did.

Turns out not only does it suck but it has these stupid little gambling places where you lose all your money and conveniently placed are these 'dancer' places where you basically strip for more money. So there were tons of broken ppl all stripping for money to go and gamble in that place.

It's pretty funny actually.

I was there for less than fifteen minutes and wanted to kill myself. I don't understand the point of a place like second life. As stated above dragon slaying is fun!

I entered Second Life...ONCE because I was curious ..due to the hype I had been hearing.

Horrid graphics...first thing I saw right off the bat.   Didn't look like any game I was familiar with..so I turned around, left and deleted my account on the spot.

I'm a gamer...just looked like "playing house" to me lol.     Not my style.

No. If anyone is anti-multiplayer it's me. I find most communities so juvenille and have so many games to go through, I rarely bother. No offense but I think your experiences have biased you to a degree. Not every woman is going to fit the mold you created in the above posts. There are always exceptions.
