Personally I didn't really like them much at first either. But after Awakening I completely adored Sigrun. Oghren was cool too....but Sigrun was my cuddle-muffins. Really wish she could've been an LI.

Dwarves are gross, except Varric, give me a Kossith.
I'd prefer a Kossith too. And I agree Varric is a beast.

The companion character descriptions have an Elf, a Qunari, a Tevinter human and a spirit/human.
The pictures have one elf and the rest appear human.
Is this spirit /human companion Evangeline?

Because Varric and Oghren.
Both are boring and stereotypical characters.
While Ohgren was indeed rather stereotypical, he was far from boring, he was bloody hilarious!
and Varric? in what way? He was a Archer where most Dwarves use melee weapon, he his beard is small, he has a American Accent, doesn't follow the whole Stone thing, very calm and collected.
Hes practically the exact opposite of a Dwarf Stereotype.

1. I think it was a caucasian Tevinter male human mage with a trident-like staff
2. A female with a darker skin tone (like Isabella), rogueish looking, elf or human, can't remember
3. Cullen. Ok, it might not be the Templar Cullen, but it looked like him, both facially and clothing-wise.
4. Qunari male. Maybe a female too, but I'm not really sure.
The last two that I remember are the concepts for the characters that have been officially shown in the blog post talking about armor to sync up with companion styles. They were:
5. A caucasian human male Grey Warden. In his 50s, I'd say, with a sweet beard.
6. What looks to be Cassandra.
The fact that 1-4 were done in the same artistic style as 5-6, which are official, leads me to believe that 1-4 must be official as well. Also, why bother demanding a news post on a survey be taken down if there is no truth to it?

The characters that had descriptions and were named in the survey were these:
Iron Bull: Tal-Vashoth mercenary.
Sera : Elven thief.
Dorian: Human Tevinter magister.
Cole: Dude from Asunder.
The idea that Cassandra, Cullen and a Grey Warden (Stroud?) would be companions came from concept art. Cassandra and the Grey Warden were the same ones you can see in the follower customization pictures in Bioware's blog. Cullen's art is identified by fangirls that know Cullen's features a little better than they perhaps should.
My Personal Rambling
So following that reasoning we arrive at 5 humans, 1 Kossith (old, disused word for 'Qunari' or "Tal-Vashoth" that I use for lack of a better term), 1 elf. The translation of the German version of the survey suggested ten total characters. So that leaves 3 open slots--meaning there might still be a dwarf in the mix.
Here's another speculative way of presenting the breakdown:
Warriors: Iron Bull (Kossith, Tal'Vashoth), Cassandra (Human, Seeker), Stroud (Human, Grey Warden), Cullen (Human, Templar)
Rogues: Sera (Elf), Cole (Human), Mystery Rogue
Mages: Dorian (Human Tevinter), Mystery Mage #1, Mystery Mage #2.
Since dwarves can't be mages (at least as far as we know), any dwarf companion is likely to fill the rogue slot. Also, we're a little light on females with two out of seven. So at least one and possibly all three mystery slots could be female.
All the usual disclaimers. Survey isn't confirmed to be reliable; Even if it is reliable things could have changed. May not apply to New York and Maine. Please only recycle plastics 5 and 7. Temper expectations in the absence of real information. Et Cetera.

And Cole isn't human. He's a spirit without a physical vessels that takes the appearance of a male human.

Stroud and Cullen are definitely warriors.
Cole as demon is problematic to classified, but rogue makes most sense.
And i don't know about the mages, but if there is Rhys as mage then i am pretty sure that Evangeline will be as warrior there too.
Also its very likely that this companions are exclusive to each other. For instance it might be impossible to have Cole and Cullen together - and you will have to make choice between either of them (example : Knight-Commander Cullen is hunting demon - Cole, and you can aid only one. Also if you killed Wynne or SHael - Cole and Rhys are probably dead, and you might have Lord Seeker Lambert there instead.)

Ugh. Hoping Cole isn't a companion. I don't want side-media to tie so strongly to the main game.
They did it in ME3 and it was terrible, so yeah, a pass on this for me too, please.

Leliana was using the same armor at the end of DA II though, and she's a rogue. Anyone knows what weapon(s) Cassandra uses in Dawn of the Seeker?
