They are races that basically were either wiped out or conquered in the age of the Protheans

I can't see any of the listed races working out from a gameplay perspective, other than Protheans and Raloi. Even they would require some serious lore-bending, though. Of course, I said Volus were too much of a joke character to implement earlier, too. I still stand by this statement, but I suppose it shows that anythings possible.

 Elcor are out no matter what. Bioware said it's a game mechanic thing, which means it's probably the same for any overly large or non-bipedal race, including Rachni, Hanar and Yahg. Also, if you think rage over Volus is bad, rage over Protheans would be 100x worse (I'm indifferent either way, if you must know).

So that leaves VIs, alternate AIs (like EDI), more of current species, ex-Reaper Leviathan thralls, Thorian thralls/creepers, more ex-Cerberus, Raloi, and "freed" Reaper thralls (like the Collectors after Harbinger had "released control" at the end of ME2). I'm sure there's more possibilities, but I can't think of any right now.

Why would Protheans be worse?   Theres already a heavy precedent set for the Protheans going into stasis to survive the reaper harvest, both Joviks DLC and Illios way back in ME1.   Its not a stretch to say that some stasis pods survived on eden prime or another world.  

If anything, its less of a stretch than Volus in multiplayer.  They're a short, tubby wheezing ball with legs, that cant run, jump or climb.   They burst in when they're exposed to atmosphere, and can barely fire a rifle with their stubby arms.  Yet their going to fight alongside N7, STG, Justicars, Battlemasters, in critical commando raids against overwhelming odds???   A couple hundred prothean pods out of thousands surviving is far more plausible than that. 


If they do release Volus, they might as well come out with a hanar spectre.   Or an 80 yr old Shanxi veteran.  Perhaps 10 year old War Orphans, of the human and turian variety.  Maybe a paralized salarian in a souped up, all terrain wheelchair.  Because all of these are as combat effective and realistic as a Volus in multiplayer.  But hey, it would be funny.  We could make funny gifs and meme pictures.  Thats whats important, right?

Disappointed and sad: I was not aware of the game engine's issue with non-bipedals. Should be an issue with players, since Ravagers are not bipedals and Brutes knuckle-walk. This leaves the Elcor out.

What about mechs? Like those from ME1 and 2? One can even say they are remotely controlled by Volus and there you go: Volus can now fight.

OK, if both are no-gos, then bring on the space hamsters.

Oh, beter yet- Joker. Let's bring him to the front lines! Give him some armor wit hydraulics and EDI as a pet.

I believe the argument is less about lore, as it's perfectly explainable with a good SP DLC, and more about Javik. It seems that most people that are against Protheans argue it would ruin Javik's uniqueness and overall impact in the story. I happen to agree with that logic, though I still wouldn't care if they're added or not.

Also, Volus are more feasible if they get a Destroyer-type mech suit. Plus we don't even know if they're placeholders or not yet, so let's just wait on that argument.
