The "geth are just machines" argument fails when we as humans are machine's based on chemical interactions.

You can take a human organ out and put it in another human as long as the parts match. The only thing we dont know how to do currently is create life from non-life. Thats not to say there arnt people working on it.

So how would your arguement go if scientists are able to create life in a lab? As it stands all life we know of was created with random chemical reactions.

But who are you to perscribe what constitutes as life and what does not? The geth have a hive mind mentality? So that makes it invalid as a form of life? Does that mean that schitsopherenics and people with multiple personality disorder are not alive?

You know what. Im done. You are silly.

Got to agree. You need to be able to really feel for it to be said that you have a soul. And since a robot doesn't have any of the neuro-chemical responses that trigger and are triggered by emotions, they cannot feel. If they cannot feel, they don't have a soul.

You guys are applying organic morals to synthetics.

The only ones who are racist are the ones who compare genocide of an organic race with that of a synthetic one.

Death is bad for them both. I don't think we need to worry that much about differences of perception.

Except that 'organics are just machines' argument has been proven false. We are not programmed, nor are we 'constructed'. Even a cloned human would still have a biological and genetically random personality and inward diversity that makes them 'alive. Please reconsider your faulty post-modern philosophy.

Except the geth are no more a race than a particularly shiny copy of Windows 7.

Not random, we just don't have the tools for measuring the creation of such things yet. Give it time. Someday, programming organics will be able to be done deliberately.

That's actually incorrect.

If we go to the very routes of life. It is happening all the time and has been for centuries. How you might ask?

Flora cultivating. We have been experimenting with different species of plants and flowers for centuries, creating hybrids of two or amazingly unique ones from scratch. The the variables being climate, soil and seeds rather than more scientific apparatus' that would be required for fauna cultivation. But we have started cloning animals in our modern day so I guess that's a step in the right direction too. While the flora isn't sentient by any means, it's still creating life as plants and flowers are living things.

Except for the all-important one: full brain and/or head transplants.

We can't remove our consciousness and toss it into another vessel.

Define "programmed".  And we are "constructed".  Matter from one source is reconfigured into cells during pregnancy.  Hence why people arnt born fully grown.

The whole personality thing is wrong too.  The geth are a product of their experiences just as any human is.  Hence why Legion is good and VI boy is an ****.

In order to claim that the Geth do not have a soul, you have to first define what a soul is.
In order to claim they are not alive, you have to define what life is.
Until then you have no basis for an argument.

Yet.

Or have you forgotten that medical advances may allow for that kind of stuff in the future?  Hell compare todays medical technology to 100 years ago.

not yet we can't, but eventually...:alien:.  All we are is a series of firing synapses in a specific pattern, who is to say that eventually we won't be able to take a snapshot of the brain activity, remove the brain transfer it and restart it with the same brainwaves,  I would argue that qualifies as a transplant we just can't do it yet as far as I know.  killing the geth is genocide.

Edit: damn, ninja'd:bandit:

I thought it would be clear from my post on the previous page, but genocide does not have to involve loss of life. It is the destruction of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.

Genocide can happen just by forced relocation.

Compare any technology to 100 years ago.

And I'm not 100% on this, but I'm going to say it anyway. I think that it's possible that after the Geth uploaded the Reaper code and gained individual sentience, they can no longer transfer each other's "brains" from one unit to another.

A lot of things are theoretically possible.
