Maybe but IDK she looks young toojennamarae wrote...
They did make her a bit more naive (I think that's the word I'm looking for) than she should have been. I've always wondered if they chose to include Isabella first and then decided to make the alternate female love interest the complete polar opposite without realizing that doing so made Merril seem very childlike.

For the record. I think the Merril romance was a creepy romance, but I think it failed because it was as if the game didn't recognise it as creepy. But I guess it depends on how young or old you roleplay your Hawke. Mine was around 30 and with merrill being so young it became strange. Perhaps if I roleplayed a 15 year old or something.

Do you know why Merril seems young? Because of the Welsh accent.
You listen to a welsh accent and you will see why she seems young.
I think she was just a sheltered elf, which makes more sense.

It's one thing to be naive. It's another to still be that way after living in Kirkwall for seven years.
Merrill is so thoroughly detached from reality at times that I'm tempted to think she has some sort of developmental disorder. Most of Hawke's innuendos and flirtations soar clear over her head. I struggle to believe that she even knows what sex is. I could never romance her because I'd feel like a predator.
But I don't think that Bioware is going to just rehash a character they already did, so I think we're fine.

If you have Merrill in your squad her and Isabella's banter shows that Merrill is well aware of what sex is and all that. Its just she has her head in the clouds

I dunno why people think Merrill is a child, its just the accent: www.youtube.com/watch
I think people mean her personality, not how she sounds. Or at least their preception of her personality.

I do agree with this, however! She has her head in the clouds, and at times I think she even does it on purpose to troll. I remember a moment in MotA, where the two companions are looking for a captured Hawke. I forget who she was with, but Merrill makes a comment that was completely off topic and the companion is all "...You're doing this on purpose!" and Merrill just giggles.
Edit: Just remembered who she was with! It was when she was with Carver, and Carver is fumbling over his crush on her. I think this moment pretty much shows Merrill understands flirting but choses to ignore it on purpose.

Probably in the age where all mature women in the media MUST be buxom babes like Isabella, people probably thought Merrill was too skinny looking to be an adult in teh gamez.
Blame that on the elf redesign and unrealistic expectations of mature women in the media.
I'd much prefer more women in games to look like merrill then creepy childlike characters of Dead or Alive fighting games *shudders*

She absolutely does do it to troll, I've noticed this a few times while playing during different banter (I am still playing DA2 for the first time at the mo)

Nope. That's not it either. You don't have to be a one noted character that only talks about sex to appear mature. Far from it actually.

Merrill is the age of the warden in DA:O
She also has markings in DA2 so she is an adult - apparently that is a thing.
She has her head in the clouds, but is well aware that this is her personality - so Hawke is not "taking advantage" - if everyone thought that, Merrill (who is an adult and that is her personality) would never find anyone ):
I think it's the welsh accent and the inability for some players to see she was trolling the party during some of her sillier comments.
Am i the only one who saw the layers in Merrills character?
If you are gonna talk creepy, Romancing Liara T'Soni in ME1 is probably more creepy.

This! I saw Merrill as a bit of a troll, a girl with her head in the clouds -- and she knows she can be like that, and a girl who is perhaps a little sheltered in that she doesn't know about things outside the Dalish culture, at least at first. She isn't exactly like she was in DA:O, but I don't think she's FAR from it, either. We just happened to see her in DA:O when a friend and member of her clan was missing and another was injured and tainted... after going somewhere they should have known better to explore without telling anyone.
