I actually ran into a bunch of new players this weekend. On top of that, pretty much everyone I played with today was terrible. People were dropping like flies on Silver. It was frustrating. I don't mind the new players but the supposed vets I played with today were f***ing up.

The ps3 community is so random some times. Well good for you in finding quality play. I can only hope mine, and other players' luck gets better/

100% success rate on Bronze with my level 1-6 classes, 100% success rate with my level 6-11 classes, no carries, I had to try hard to get 1st/2nd against level 20's in the same difficulties... better than usual, could just be my luck today.

Who are you kidding? I play Bronze primarily and still have serious issues with some teams. Some have idiot loadouts (too heavy for power users, no ability to handle cover/ armour), some has poor concentration on Objectives, many have overweening need to get kills, bad understanding of spawn capping, poor understanding of map play...

Yes, it's easier for players to kill things with the addition of "power" kits and new gears. But that just goes to highlight really poor tactical play. For example, a close-combat class camping on the big pad in front of Array Control on Dagger is just capping the big spawn points there and forcing the system to spawn and flank the snipers in Array Control. This just undercuts the whole team because some idiot wants to get stuck in quickly -- which he inevitably doesn't, since the spawn won't happen there! And I see at least 2 to 3 instances of this over the weekend (which accounts for almost all the games I had on Dagger).

I'm also seeing a number of players with no weapon mods, no gear, low weapons.. that's expected in Bronze, but the numbers I run into is a bit surprising considering the age of this game.

Serious issues with some teams on Bronze?  I know you have been around a while, Lynx.  Why are you still playing Bronze and having trouble?

I don't do Bronze matches because I become lazy, and I can solo an entire Bronze match on my own these days. I tend to do too many kill stealing. If it's a Bronze match, I tend to be at the top because of my focus on weakpoints namely the head. I notice headshot snipes reward you heavily. I want to be supportive mostly. That's why I want a medic class; I'm a healer/controller at heart.

I play Gold public matches and I always find great players. We complete extraction, not necessarily full, in some 80% or more of the matches.

I still believe that what make players improve is the challenge. Besides, once we get used to Gold pacing, Silver gets really boring and Bronze is unbearable.

Probably just luck! Although I have felt this way myself too. Extracted 90% of my gold matches without struggling really hard. All public games. =O

I've actually had a lot of better games, and I've accepted more U/U games than usual, whether silver or gold. I've only failed about once the entire weekend.

Wish I were getting these pugs you're getting. Just half an hour ago I was playing a silver reaper game on ghost and here are the scores (yes I wrote them down):

114844
63179
44862
29907

Yeah, guess which one was me. I was freaking MQI, too. I should NOT be topping the scoreboards! I can carry silver fine. Sometimes I even do it on purpose, but every single freaking game today, I swear... Sure I can carry silver. But if I want that much difficulty, I'd usually rather play gold.

MQI is easily one of the best classes in the game.

Great class, but all I'm doing is shooting things with a Mattock and occasionally throwing out a grenade (I have a bad habit of forgetting they exist). My cloak is duration specced, and I mostly use it to go and find the banshee, tag her, and run the other way (I keep on waiting for randoms to realize that I do that so we can avoid her, not kill her and force 2 others to spawn). That should not be getting me 2-3x the score of a Fury or Destroyer.

Youre doing it right - I prefer duration too, need them 1,2,3,4 hacks done and dusted asap lol. Also with the buff Tac Scan got its def worth speccing into. Try a shotgun - Claymore or reegar both suit him well. In my experience ive only come across a handful of players on gold who can really deal damage with the Fury - the high risk/reward like the GI can be overwhelming for most.

I've actually been running into folks that seem entirely new to the game, but I'm one of those crazy sorts that enjoys watching people improve their gameplay through frequent play and helping them out with suggestions and what wisdom I can along the way such as, "You deliver pizzas significantly faster walking backwards or sideways depending on the character model" or "For the love of the Amonkira don't use rockets on a half dead Atlas on wave 5 of Bronze."

I was thinking this too :)

Well, I play Bronze for various reasons...

First, I can get called away by family for various reasons at short notice. Bronze I can complete in sub-20, regardless how poor the team is (or we wipe, which amounts to the same thing). You can lose a Bronze match that way and don't feel too bad about things. Silver, Gold requires more time and more commitment, and I can't guarantee that on my part.

Second, I play for enjoyment. I can also take things just a tad bit too seriously. Gold+ is just going to give me heart attacks or I'm going to grind my teeth into bits just from the frustration. My dentist is already having words about that with me...

Third, I like weird builds. Ever see a Pull Drell Adept? He runs around yanking things into the air for the rest of the team to shoot. Fun as heck for me for a while. Or a Saber-armed Vorcha Sentinel with no cluster grenades? Fun to pop heads and then flame anything that gets too close. I still have both of them in my stable... but no way I will take them into Gold, Silver maybe. I enjoy the oddball builds but that means Bronze for the play-in-sandbox mode.

FWIW, I know I can solo Bronze, a previous event I tried with a Demolisher without using consumables. Didn't make it, but got close enough that I know if I tried with consumables I'm near certain to get to it. Probably can do Silver decently once I get used to the different mob behaviour. Gold I can hold my own but need people to handhold me a bit. Platinum I don't bother.

BTW, just to get back to the topic.. I'm not grousing about stupidity on new players' part. That's expected because they don't know things well enough. It's usually the mid-hundreds or low thousands N7s acting rambo or doing silly things that gets my goat. Frankly, some have equipment and moves good enough for Gold, but the poor tactical play makes me wonder how they survive there.

I had an absolutely dreadful silver experience yesterday. I should have known when I dropped into the lobby and two of the team were trying to kick each other. Nobody revived anybody all game (a problem when you accidentally run with no medigel, but I thought hey it's silver) and others were walking over me while I died and not reviving. Staggering. I topped the scoreboard with an unglamorous all the way through, which I suspect may have been the cause of others going out of their way not to revive me. The other three also failed to do any of the objectives (a hack, a 1234 and the final pizza delivery) and as a consequence failed at wave ten. Idiots. Even if I'm having an awful day I'll sacrifice myself to revive someone who's clearly a better player and will contribute more if left to solo.

It was so bad I actually stepped in on the mic to try to direct them, which I've never done before. Not barking orders (though I felt like it), but things like 'the hack goes more quickly if we're all in the circle'.

Lynx, I've learned that if you're playing with a horrible team to stay a shrewd as possible. I stay at a relative distance from them, and I end up surviving. When and if they drop, I'll hide and pick enemies off one by one til they're finished. I did that last night, and that team got their act together and started playing like a team. We're not on Bronze, you can't just run right up to a Banshee for heavy melee when she has FULL barriers.

Also, what's this Legion?

Hmm I don't know about better. I've become so used to silver now that I generally just hang back and help out teammates. Covering and reviving. Heck sometimes I just stun and let the new guy try out the sniper rifle.

Could go more to gold but... I only do that if I'm in the mood for more challenge and thats far from allways the case.

I don't need to get pumped or "stressed" to have a good game. I can easily just enjoy getting a good headshot streak on silver...

From the weekend, i'd say good players outweigh the bad ones from my own experience. On Silver matches I played, most people worked for the team, revived if needed, objectives etc. You get the odd guy who runs off into a group of enemies and dies every round of course. On Gold, the players I came accross were either great or very bad. One guy especially stood out on a Glacier game vs cerberus - was using a fury. Great player.
