Before realizing there was an order in which to proceed to the finally I completed the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest before embarking on the Arl of Redcliffe quest. So when I started the Arl of Redcliffe I already had a pouch of ashes in my inventory. I completed the Arl quest up to the point where I'm supposed to acquire the pouch of ashes by completing the Urn of Sacred ashes quest. I really don't want to repeat this quest. I tried to use the ashes from my inventory at the Arl's bedside but nothing happened. Is there a way to complete the Arl quest without redoing the ashes quest?

Oh my :(
Well, i think that if you throw away the ashes you got,
and then get it again with 'add any item visual deluxe' mod, it might work.
I hope you made lots of saves during the campaign.

Oh, and Redcliffe is the place to go right after Lothering, since its easiest

You don't actually use the ashes from your inventory. Just speak with the people and the ashes will be consumed and the arl healed.

I tried talking to the people in the castle but nothing happens. Isolde is standing next to the Arl's bed but I can't interact with her. Only Ban Teagan allows a conversation but it leads nowhere.

There isn't really an order to the questline. If it's active in your journal and you have access to the area, then you can get there.

And you should be able to complete the Urn of Sacred Ashes before Redcliffe without problem. Are you running any mods that might interfere?

If you don't mind, what conversation with Bann Teagan are you stuck on (what does he say and what dialogue choices are you offered)?

Bann: You return, might you have news?

Me: 1. What is the Arl's condition?
       2. I would like to talk about Jowan
       3. Are you calling Eamon'e knights back?
       4. Nothing yet, no

Monica, I did complete the Ashes quest successfully before starting the Arl quest. As a result I have the pouch of ashes in my inventory. Only one mod - the bash open chests mod.

Could you check your completed quests and see what the shown progress on Sacred Ashes is? Also, what does your journal say about your progress in Redcliffe?

It sounds like maybe you are bugged. Since you're on a PC, that may be fixable using the developer's console.

The Arl quest: You defeated the demon in the fade & drove it from Connor.

Ash quest: Not completed anymore as I started it over again last night before receiving any help from the forum.

P.S. I've started the gauntlet so I'm just about through with the Ash quest.

I checked my saves and found that when I traveled to Haven to do the Arl quest  the ashes quest changed from completed to current in my journal. Perhaps this explains the issue.

I did it "Out Of Order" during my second Cousland playthrough. I don't know why you're getting different results.

(Whatever it is, I hope I don't get the same thing on my current playthrough.)

Update. I completed the ashes quest today (second time) and was able to wake up the Arl.
