Options for Armors that cover up any skimpy characters would be nice.

I know I was (at least one of the people) suggesting customization options, but I'm pretty sure it's less a big deal than some people think it to be: modders have been able to provide both more and less revealing armor models in both DAO and DA II.

For this, they mostly used existing armor models, and re-textured and/or swapped them around, both for players and party members, also between players and party members. Some results were pretty bad, especially on the more skimp side, while other results were pretty good and didn't look out of place within the game.

I'm just saying, if modders can do this in their spare time in a matter of weeks after release AND actually play the game themselves as well, then the professional designers at Bioware should be able to do it as well. They probably make a lot more models than what we see in game anyway, but only few of them actually make it into release. So what's done with the other designs? I'd say: finish them and include them as alternative designs.

The modding community even came up with a very nice in-world armor customizer for players for DAO: The Winter Forge. The project page is still around too: http://social.bioware.com/project/672/
That project was made using modding tools, making something like that with the designer tools and including it within the game before shipping would've been much more efficient.
So something like that, built in at release would be a great help as well. It's about character and party member customization, something that everybody agrees Bioware could still improve a lot.
With proper customization, this whole debate would've never happened, but it comes up with almost every Bioware game, because character customization is always lacking.

I definitely wanted a bikini option for Shale, so my support is given.

I have no problem with this, but wouldnt one kinda need a skimpy option for the "modest" characters as well then?

Absolutely, we should have a wide variety of options, like in DAO. You could dress modestly clothed characters up quite revealingly, and of course you could fully cover Morrigan. I tend to like the less conservative outfits, and I hope there are plenty of those, but I have no problem with there being more conservative outfits as well. So long as everybody gets what they want, then everybody wins, it certainly didn't make Morrigan's appearance any less unique or memorable just because you could also dress her up like the most modest Chantry member of all time, its just all about letting everybody do as they like. So long as the more prudish folks don't keep the rest of us from enjoying Morrigan style outfits on our characters, I'm perfectly happy with their being able to dress their characters up as modestly as they like.

Not disagreeing entirely...

But, should the characters "themselves" have any say in what they wear and how they look? Or is it entirely up to the player? This would remove some of the characters substance in my opinion.

No it wouldn't. The DA3 team have already done some R&D into changing armors but keeping personality. Look at the jack screenshots in the OP the costumes are different but they both have jacks personality. It is not hard.

I really don't get the complaints about Jack. Yeah, she's got a lot of skin showing, but she doesn't at all come off as sexualised to me. Her tattoos don't really emphasise any of her curves and in general it just adds up in my head to "this is one bad mofo" - the shaved head acts as the cream finish on top of the cake.

personally didn't have a problem with jack, but I liked the option.

I like options.

We all do. But they cost money. If DA III system is going to work, that means they will have several outfits. Jack had two. All the other ones, including the one on your opening post? DLC outfits that you had to pay real money for.

It's disingenous to suggest adding a few different non-skimpy clothing options for default skimpy characters is going to take up any noticable resources.

That whole "oh noes resources!' argument is so weak, if you knew how many ideas were developed and thrown out in the AAA game dev process, you would know it is a drop in the ocean.

Look, can we all agree that the reason we seem to care about this so damn much is that we understand that even in a game, these characters represent in many ways folk like you and I.

stElmo, in your other thread, I said that I understand and agree with your general problem with Bioware games - that characters are sometimes objectified and sexualised at the expense of their characterisation. While I agree in a few cases (Miranda and Edi) I don't think that this is as large a problem as you do.

I don't agree that we should be dividing characters into "skimpy" and "non skimpy" or gamers into "prudes" and "sexual deviants" by means of a menu toggle... I don't agree with this because I find that the "skimpy" characters are often as or more interesting and complex than the straight laced ones.

If all you want is a range of outfits and looks that suit the styles of various characters and players then I support you, I don't support the judgmental lables you seem to want to slap folk with though...

You can't call Jack skimpy. She would flay you alive if you looked at her in that way. Also she was mostly naked for a reason, to show the tattoos and her non-stereotypical body.
If the designers make a character ware revealing clothes the I thing we should just deal with it. No need to over sexualizing the characters but as long as it serves a purpose than I won't complain.

What about an option to make those non-skimpy companions skimpy?

I can't believe you're still on this kick, OP. Play animal crossing or something
