It kinda depends on your specialisation and if you're playing pre-patch/post-patch.
Non-berserkers should go pure strength, with some constitution for survivability if necessary.
Berserkers should go with a strength/willpower split (enough str for 100% attack against normal enemies, the rest into will), with some constitution for survivability if necessary.
Pre-patch you may need to have a bit more constitution for armour requirements.
Strength increases base damage and attack-rating.
This determines how much damage you deal and improves the hit-rate of your auto-attacks (reduces 'glancing blows').
If you're not dealing enough damage, you don't have enough strength, you need a better weapon, or you aren't using the right abilities (self-buffs).
There's no point putting anything into cunning or dexterity for a warrior since the chances of a critical hit is too low to be relied upon and the 'defence' mechanic is useless.
So basically, if you have the black emporium, drink a maker's sigh and try full strength (every point into strength).
Get yourself a decent weapon (one with a higher base damage - although elemental damage or some other kind of modifier can also help).
Get cleave/claymore and might from the vanguard tree, blood frenzy from the reaver spec, and have a mage use heroic aura/haste (when possible).
Check out Arelex's guide for a berserker (here) for an example setup.

Check out any of the guides here on the builds forum, like Arelex's guide.
I like to go 2 strength/1 constitution at level up, with the various free points from potions and quests going to willpower.
While some may suggest the berserker spec, that will drain your stamina and force you to mostly auto-attack, which I find boring. I love starting off fights with cleave+mighty blow+scythe+whirlwind, which takes enemy crowds out in a hurry and will leave elites hurting if they're not dead as well.
Don't spend any points in cunning. Unlike in Origins, defense doesn't matter in DA2, as many attacks can't be dodged by having a high defense rating. Cunning in DA2 is for rogues, to increase critical damage and for lockpicking.
