You're asking a race that has never fought directly in a war and that is not suitable for a war to be in a war ughhh U_u
I'm sure the Volus never had conflicts pre-space flight.
That completely ignores the combat flaws of the volus.
AKA exploding when shot off their home planet.
And also completely ignores the combat benefits of the volus. Volus can survive unsuited at higher atmos than every other major race. They live on a planet with 1.5x the gravity of Earth.
Also the idea that volus would explode is pretty stupid. Humans don't explode in a vaccuum. This might be a fatal problem over the course of minutes or hours, but its unlikely to be instantly fatal to a volus. A simple patch would fix the problem.
1.5 times gravity and 60 times the atmospheric pressure. Human out in space is going from 1 atmosphere to 0. Volus in regular atmosphere is going from 60 to 1.. huge explosive difference.
Now, they also have a suit that makes sure they do not explode. It would have many redunancies to keep the Volus from exploding. Unless the whole suit's power system fails, they won't pop even if shot.
THAT said, I want to know how a creature that can withstand pressures that would crush a tank like a ball of tin foil would be harmed by normal bullets. :innocent:
Volus don't fit physics.. They are unrealistic and tying to rationalize them as to why they could or could not be soldiers is stupid.. Take them or leave them when they come out people. They can fit if you suspend as much belief as one has to for them to even fit into single player.
