I wonder as time, progresses in the DA universe, will the Orlesians develop a similar "surrender reflex"? Will they descend into wimpiness as the Fereldans grow in power under the strong leadership of the Grey Warden and King David Cousland.?

Poor France.  Most countries surrender when there are armies are completely whipped in the field...yet people act like they surrendered because they wanted to.  The only reason Britain did not surrender was because they had the English Channel there to cover their retreat.  If there was a French Channel things might have been different.

But that was World War II and Orlais is not France they simply speak English with French Accents.

I always find it funny how people say us like they were there even if like 15 years old. But then again, I'm not particularly patriotic.

I agree, and I dislike people who judge others by their nationality or the actions of people long dead

It was mentioned in discussion somewhere that the Ferelden nation and people were (loosely) based on the Saxons, with the Orlesian nation and people taking up the role of the Normans (hence the French accent).

Just like the elves think you should feel guilty because people treated elves badly a long time before your charecter was ever born. I hate the way Lanaya says that.

I see some major parallels between them and American Indians.

I can understand the bitterness and resentment of the elves. You can draw whatever parallel you like to any region of the real world where different groups of people have historical grievances over loss of land, power, and control, that are still nursed to this day.

I think it's a nice touch as well that the RPG cliches of elves were turned on its head in Dragon Age: Origins by making elves the downtrodden and hardpressed of Thedas.

We Americans hate the French slightly less than the British since they helped us during the American Revolution. :D

Quoted for truth. I always found it really strange when high school history teachers would say 'we' and 'us' - especially studying the less savoury bits of history.

It is lamentable, that to be a good patriot one must become the enemy of the rest of mankind.

Elves had their homeland destroyed and are now scattered to the winds living in Alienages (Ghettos?), their religion is constantly persecuted, and they are seen as inferior.  Seems likely the inspiration for them came from the Hebrews.
