Ok, in all seriousness Bioware, if you could create characers as imaginative as you have for the last two games, we'll be good. Who's with me?

I may have laughed quite loudly. Placement/timing couldn't have been more perfect.
Personally, I don't think we'll get characters like Fenris, Anders or Merrill. It's a new game, which surely means we can anticipate a mixture of returning characters/cameos and ENTIRELY NEW ONES with different backgrounds, motives, angles and whatever other character-defining apparatus the writers can come up with.
Me, I'm okay with that.

I guess I'll have to wander around Thedas all alone and enjoy the scenery.

That's what I did in Skyrim. I really enjoyed that game, but I missed having a party I could talk in a meaningful manner. Preferably about more than just "Will you please carry all this Falmer crap I'm carting around."

Oh, oh! And then we get the ability to tie little ribbons in their hair and give them adorable pet names and in battle we'll hear the player character cry things like "Crush his skull, Trixiebell!" "I need healing, Snugglemuffin!"

Whatever gets you off, sir. I typically don't name my tools. If the ribbons grant them combat buffs though, then sure.

Title says it all. I want nothing more than the story. No need for any characters whatsoever. No fenris, no isabela, no merril, no anders, no nothing.

I was with you right up until your second sentence. Stories with characters are so cliché, it's not even funny. What we need is a collection of amorphous blobs of differing sizes and colours. that each symbolize the central themes of the story. I'm confident that players will be able to figure out whats going on.

Take a Total War Game, (several of which did win GOTY, yes). I don't need my light calvary troops whining about their daddy issues and trying to hump me as I direct them. They could I guess, but I would probably find it as annoying as I do when it happens in Bioware games, and it has nothing to do with why I play any game, in general. Bioware writes "good" characters by video game standards, yes. Those are some pretty low standards though. With a select few exceptions none of them have enough depth for me personally to have any interest in them, or to view them as anything other than artificial constructs with tired and overplayed faux personalities, that I mostly want to ignore.

As pretty as Skyrim is, I got pretty bored without companions or at least something to make me actually care about the main plot. Thus started my quest to steal EVERYTHING from EVERYONE.
