i wasnt sure if was right place but guess ask! in nwn1-2 i found ways to alter the actual coding a bit so i could say remove ecl on a race, or change a class feature but, was all D&D stuff what i want is a bit more simple. i want to just change it so that dalish starting orgin is an option for the mage... i really want to play a dalish mage but since option was never available been searching to see if some mod, or way to change code manually to allow me to just play a dalish origin but use a mage as a class.(so play as if you were a dalish but, have mage class)
Changing single player game...somewhat...

*maybe a few spoilers for mage origin*
Something that intricate might not be very easy to do, since the Mage Origin is so closely tied to having been at the circle, and there are many other follow on conversations (especially with Wynne), that require you to have been at the circle (same with the whole Jowan line).
I'm not sure that the game actually forces you to have been there for those conversations to work, but certainly, it would be jarring from a story perspective.
I have not played a Dalish origin, but I suspect you'll find the same issues there. Lack of quests that yield Mage gear, lack of dialogue that is mage specific (ie, they will assume you are a Ranger or a Warrior), etc.
Barring that, there should be a few folks around here that can speak to changing class availabilty from a purely mechanical perspective. Unfortunately, I can't help in that regard, yet.
Good luck, though. Sounds like a neat idea.

well using tool set can edit a saved file, using that i can effectivly " alter " my character to be a mage, only snag i've hit is that i cant find line that is origin, so i cant switch magi tower to dalish elf even though i'm in dalish elf origin as for assumeing i'm not a mage its true would. Would probably refer to me as a dalish elf anytime looked at origin once its set which is what i want.

Alright....i finally got this to work, so going to try and give a brief explanation on how you can do a dalish mage... please note are probably many areas wont get to use your " mage " background do to this wont know till i play it through but! here is what i did.
1: download toolset this will allow you to edit your saved game.
2: create 2 new characters a dalish mage(this will end up your character so be sure fix his/her looks how you want), and a random mage.
3: save your game with both THIS is important!
4: now go into toolset and find your save game.das for both your mage and your dalish elf. this is where ALL your information is located at...
5: here comes tricky part... alot of options you should see now, click + sign next to savegame_playerchar, and further drop down the savegame_playerchar_char, this is all data on your character, now do same for your mage.
6. now should see a whole bunch o crap makes no sense! now all have to do is delete following lines
Savegame_creature_stats
Savegame_equipment_items
and now, go into your mage file should be open find those same 2 items and copy them now paste them into the savegame_playerchar_char line. probably pop down at bottom thats fine game will find it long as it has same name. If does some whacky thing where erases base name, or changes name line...have to alt+z and keep fiddling till it pastes it right. now effectivly your dalish elf is now a mage however are a few things to note... right now his origin isn't right, since come up as a mage HERE is what took me ages to figure out!
7 basic final step... go back into dalish elf save game. Now go to savegame_playerchar_char, now find the savegame_creature_stats line and drop it down. now look down through that till you see the savegame_statlist line and drop that open should see a whole bunch of numbers.
8. now... need to make origin dalish is all should need changed, so go to 18 and change it to following.
savegame_statproperty_base Float32 1
savegame_statproperty_index unit16 37
now once that is change to look like the above YOU should be able to save it log into your save game and should be a mirrior of mage you made BUT have dalish appearance. Now wont have ANY mage gear till you leave the elf tutorial... so might wanna play mage side through and copy Savegame_equipment_items from end of that so have mage gear or personally gonna just play it through i mean get better stuff anyway.
probably not best explanation BUT i tried i managed to do it! i can now play a dalish mage!

yes if can get all edits done you could...though hit a small wall myself...seems auto level feature is missing from my game, and having a hell of a time figuring how to switch it off again =P but essentially yes you could.

Ok finally got it figured not sure what i did...probably when i was fiddling around learning i must have altered something...however if do above steps... shouldn't hit that wall...seems to be working now not missing auto level up feature in my character sheet =D so yes dwarf mage of dalish mage should be possible now!

I think you might be able to create an override version of the backgrounds 2da to open up the origins in Character Generation. If anyone is still interested, I'll put something up.

was my first thought was to open up 2da and change what i wanted but i couldn't find a program to open the file type off hand so i did it this way, but yes anything could rig this up would be great.
in other news so i've done origin opening, and went on to ostegar and done that. Suprisingly, mention both my dalish origin in parts and my mage in others, so get to see both but... Dalish origin does over right the fact your a mage. Still story plays out well enough and, i dont really see anything makes no sense(ok is one guy who says your in circle of magi and your not but i dont see that as a huge deal) basically plays out like your a dalish elf.
Oh one tiny warning however! is the elf mage in origin story, and she has a nice nifty little dalish elf outfit. Can take this off of her and use it giving you a nice mage outfit...however... when try to leave the origin zone, will crash the game if you have the outfit on you or in your inventory at all be sure and vender it. Also wont see much in way of robes for awhile so make do with leather armor or, play the mage origin through once and copy gear into your file personally i just toughed it out.

I'll put together something to allow Dalish mages and to give them robes at chargen.
By the way, come conversations are based on class, not origin. So some people will assume mages are from the Circle (being the only origin for them.)
Edit: http://www.mediafire.com/?jwzyiwhmzx1
The file is in .dazip form, but does NOT use the DAUpdater. Use 7-Zip, WinRar, or any other program that you use to open .zip files to open this. Everything in the folder goes to your override folder in the game directory (Bioware\\Dragon Age\\packages\\override). I included the backgrounds.xls in case people wanted to see how I did this. I didn't test this yet, but it should work.
