 In no particular order and none particularly related to each other.

Requirements:
Absolutely no direct prequels (see #2 Options for an exception)
Protagonist cannot be Shepard or any ME1/2/3 cast or squadmates
If prior to ME1, it must involve an alternate timeline (a la J.J. Abrams Star Trek)
If after the Reaper War, no mass relay travel should be allowed. 

Story Options:
Survival/horror during the Reaper war, from civilian stand point. (husks are scary, banshees utterly terrifying)
Time Travel (ties into #3 requirement)
Extra-galactic travel (new galaxy, new aliens, new star systems, new adventures!)
Trilogy increases in scale (game 1->single planet, game 2->single galaxy, game 3->many galaxies)
Privateer style (ME meets Eve Online)


I'm sure there are other easily summarized concepts, I'd like to hear what you all think!
