Might seem a bit like jumping the gun, but when the game is wrapped up and announced and all of the marketing is getting pulled together, covers are being printed, etc...

Is it too much to ask for the protagonist to be depicted as both male and female on the front of the finished product?

I applaud the ME team for including Femshep on the packaging for ME3 and making a theatrical trailer featuring her, but I would have really, really enjoyed seeing something depicting both without actually having to flip the cover.

I intially made a little graphic thing to illustrate my point but uh, didn't paste too well~

They'll market it in the way they think will generate the most sales. Whether that is by depicting a male protagonist, a female one, or both will not affect the actual game. I don't see how it matters.

I can imagine including both instead of one would appeal to a larger audience and therefore generate more sales.

I'd like the female protagonist to be shown more in the marketing. I believe we had some promotional art of Lady Hawke? Or am I dreaming?

We did. I'd definitely love to see more of that. It would just be a bonus to walk into my local gamestop to pick it up [lol who am I kidding; this will be preordered the second the collectors edition is announced] and see the protagonist that I would choose on the cover. It's a positive message, so, why not?

I say they just show a female protagonist. ME only used broShep for two of the games, and while they did include some femShep stuff for ME3 the focus was still broShep, and DA2 had a male Hawke. Also, the canon version of Reven is male.

My point is, it'd be nice if a female protagonist got the spotlight for once and didn't have to share it with a male version of the character.

Oh, wouldn't it? Sigh. I'm still operating in baby steps mode.

They could just put a French dragon on the cover.

(haha)

I'd rather they just make a female protagonist and stick with that. I don't like this back and forth business that gets bandied about as the great everyone-wins solution.

Oh man... you tempt me to utilize my [seriously lacking] photoshop skills, complete with beret and plate of assorted cheeses.

I'm assuming you mean as the protagonist.  Izzy got bandied about plenty during DA2's marketing.

Frankly, I preferred the cover art and marketing approach (at least as far as the protagonist was concerned) of DA:O.  It set the tone without specifying gender, race, or appearance for the protagonist.  Nice and neutral, and you have to try REALLY hard to be offended by a dragon-shaped blood splatter.

It's not too much to ask, but don't expect it to happen.

Of course, the protagonist shouldn't even be on the cover as Dragon Age isn't about it's bassad marine hero like Mass Effect is.

If we're talking plot importance, DA2 should've had Anders, Meredith, and the Arishok on the cover instead of Hawke.

Or just the dragon silhouette and the path of blood.  That IMO was pretty striking on its own.

The cover design was striking, I agree.

I'd just rather not see stuff like this

Clearly male.

Or this:

Which features MHawke.

I like the idea about the dragon, or companion characters as well.

I'm ok with the generic Warden on the DA:O cover. The game is about the Wardens--it doesn't have to be the protagonist. And besides, it's balanced out by Morrigan who's female.

DA2, less ok.
