I haven't slept in 57 hours. This thread title is taunting me with it's fundamental truthiness.
So yes, for great justice.

Yeah, I'd rather development time and money went to somewhere else... I don't need to act out every daily activity my PC would be IRL...

You people who keep talking about money make it seem like creating a laying down animation is so freakin' expensive. Not to say that it's free to create something like that, but still...it's not going to cost a fortune. Plus, they have all the time in the world considering they'll release the game when they want to release it, no time constraints.

Reminds me of when I'd sleep in an inn when I reached a new town in Final Fantasy, not because I needed the HP/MP refresh, but just because I'd been on the road for a long time and thought it would be fitting, heh.

I totally support this idea.

The game doesn't have a day/night cycle. Sleeping wouldn't make much sense.

Is that confirmed?
With a day/night cycle I would appreciate the option to interact with the bed to pass the mandatory 6-12 hours. It could be a way to make infiltration quests easier/harder  or to provide day/night-only quests.
Didn't like the system they used in DA II.

I like the idea of being able to interact with the bed to sleep and having the option to save. Reminds me of Harvest Moon :P

Kind of a small thing but since we all seem to be throwing out stuff we want to/don't want to see in DA:I....

I would like to be able to interact with/select my bed at the home base as the PC and decide to go to sleep. This could maybe trigger a short cutscene in which the character is shown reclining onto the pillow, or something like when Hawke puts on his finery in the Hawke Estate at the start of Act II. Then the manual save dialogue could come up and you could make a save if you wanted, or just ESC or cancel to leave that screen. The next thing you would see is the morning and the character standing, fully dressed next to the bed.

If you're in a romance, the cutscene could instead be of the PC and LI "chatting" under the covers.

I think this option would help to break up what feels like one long, endless day during gameplay, give players a gentle reminder to make named saves to fall back on rather than abusing the quick save button in all situations (I know I'm guilty of this), help with immersion, and--last but certainly not least--see our PC out of full body armor and traveling armory!

Anyway, it's kind of a pittance but it would make me really happy. :D

I love this idea! I can't think what else needs to be said.

I want to be able to jump on the bed. And have sexy slow-motion pillow fights with my companions!   Posted Image

Make it happen, Bioware!!

I also want to have a cutscene of the inevitable "right side of the bed? / left side of the bed?" conversation with my LI if/when he/she spends the night.

Because realism, people.

As, you know, what can be more immersion-breaking than lack of an ability to flush the toilet?! And - no I have no Idea how do they do it in Thedas either...probably, we should ask Mr Gaider for more details...

There are several references to chamber pots in both DA:O and DA2. Pampered people like Hawke have their servants to empty the pot.

More interaction with inanimate objects would be nice. I hope the new engine will make it easier to create ordinary scenes such as sitting on a chair, sleeping in your bed covered by a blanket, reading a book or drinking a pint etc. Details can give a game natural flow.

In DA:O those sort of scenes were at best awkward and usually nonexistent. DA2 tried to improve but the limitations of the engine were glaring.

MAKE THE BED A COMPANION IN DA3 OR GTFO BIOWARE OMGWTFBBQROFLCOPTORZUGUYS!!!!

You forgot to add "romancible", didn't you?

You people who keep talking about money make it seem like creating a laying down animation is so freakin' expensive.

It takes same as any other animation. If I need to choose between it and good combat animation move or extra movement and interaction during cut scenes - I'd vote for those instead of "sleeping" that I may use may be once - out of curiosity.

It's not MMO, where you are supposed to have a lot of stupid things to do while you're waiting for raid to unlock, you know. It's not even NWN, which had a lot of social actions because it was multiplayer targeted. Extra chat with companions - yes, please. Sleeping on beds, using toilets and anytime click-hugs (yes, DAO and ME2 - I'm looking at you) - rather not, unless EA of a sudden gave a lot of extra money and told devs to spend all asap.

Could the bed ask you to help it clear out all the wood termites? Or fetch ten fine scatter cushions? :P
Ahem, anyway, I support this! Like being able to order a drink in The Hanged Man, love those little touches.

I would like to be able to swim or stand under a waterfall, all this dirt and blood and bits that just fade away all magic like still leaves me with a grimy feeling after awhile, DOA had tubs about and could imagine getting clean, still being able to interact with some water somewhere would be nice.

So a nice shower before jumping into a warm bed Ahh!

The more immersion the better. As for people saying it costs $$$, there are lots of things that could be cut that have little benefit to the game. Sooo many fetch or kill this bandit quests. And pointless objects in the home. Some of Hawke's items in the mansion or Gamlen's house are funny, but it seems most of them have to do with doggie messes or sex. Make something in the house really usable. Plus don't voice Hawke when we click on non-usable objects because it prevents the player from forming their own opinion. For example Isabela's "Look at the crest sideways" idea could be told to Hawke. Then we try to look and elicit our own personal reaction. Most of Hawke's reactions to the environment make me want to slap him/her upside the head.

I wouldn't want the bed to be a day/night cycle thing, as that tends to annoy the hell out of me. Please do not make time-specific quests that make me go to a house or tavern to *nap* before the correct time arrives.

I wouldn't mind a bed/closet which could customise Hawke's clothing. A resting cutscene. LI interaction. Face customization. Dream cutscene. Cutscene where companions plot something behind player's back.

Hey, how about resting and "dreaming" the past few cutscenes? I always miss something in a cutscene and there is no rewind button. Clicking on the bed lets you review the last few cutscenes or quest updates (uhhh who was I supposed to kill again???). Even though we have the Journal, sometimes there's too many things in there. It'd be good to know "ohhh, so that's who the guy I just talked to and what he wanted me to do).

Dream cutscene.

Maker, NO! PLEASE!! NO!!!

No dreams this time. Not about boys, not about girls, not about elves, dwarves, templars, mages or kittens. And no Chantries going "boom" (just in case).

I greatly suspect that DA III will have bits in the Fade. Sorry, there will be dreams.

On another note, I'd love to interact with my bed right now. So sleepy.

How do you know an Ogre is under your bed?

Your nose is 6 inches from the ceiling.

At the very least, it should not be a static object. Nothing looks quite as weird as Hawke and their love interest sitting on top of the bed after fun times and seeing that the bed is perfectly made, without creases or folds, and that they are sitting ON the covers. What is this, the 90's? We as a society can not animate people as being partially under the covers?

Yes, I know this may sound weird, but it is a very big pet peeve of mine.

How do you know an archdemon is under your bed?

There are darkspawn digging through your bedroom looking for it.

LOL.

Little things like being able to sleep in beds, change to normal clothes, sit in chairs, eat food in taverns, etc. add a surprising amount of flavor to the world.  It's a good suggestion.

Even though I have slight attitude problem which helps me to be 100% certain that any and all requests like " please...give me bed...."when asked in  in BWN forums are always some creepy as hell LI business, I fully  agree with this! Little things you listed adds tons of immersion.

Skyrim, which even in VAnilla form  supports much of what has been requested in this thread, turned into entirely different game when I added few  mods related to survival. Stuff like   craftable campfires, tents. Hunger, thirst, need for sleep and need to seek shelter during cold weather. It is very atmopheric to eat your newly cooked vension in relative warmth of your tent whilst wind howls outside:p
