2 handed swords. Nobody liked em slow, nobody liked em fast. Just get rid of them period.

HEY. Dude. Mate. Chap. Buddy.  Close quarters melee weapon combat knows nothing cooler than big, savage two handed swords. Granted they need to be done right. They need appropriate amount and sensation of force and physique behind them. And yeah, they need to be SLOW. Granted it is very difficult to manage combat that
looks and feels physical to player. If one manages to do it though, it is very easy to make player pee rainbows if you give him nice big two hander. Nothing is greater, nothing is more savage!! Even half arsed implementations of combat feel better and more..physical than it has right to if you give player a nice two hander.

I agree though, making them fast is pointles waste. Same applies to almost all melee weapons though I think. Combat in DA2 looked and felt like Star Wars fans  swinging flashlights and acting cool.

This was originally a reply in  another thread. It makes a topic often touched in OT fashion here and there., figured it  deserves it's own thread.

Melee combat needs to look and feel PHYSICAL. Otherwise it kinda feels pointless to have melee combat at all.I want swords and axes that deliver impression of weight, mass and force. I do not want cool flashlight moves. What is your idea of good, appropriate and entertaining DARK FANTASY© RPG melee combat?

The main problem with two handed weapon swings in DA2 come about after the damage has been dealt, no? As in, the swing is fine, the character just shouldn't recover that fast. Or did I misunderstand?

Yeah this vague "needs to feel and look right" that I'm after has much to do with how motion of it all gets animated. Luckily I've forgotten most things about DA2 including how 2 handers there swing so can't make a real reply to your remark!

Combat with two handed weapons is always done well in TES games I think. They are noticeably slower than one handed weapons, but when you swing one it really feels like it's going to do some damage.

I think the speed you swing a two handed weapon in DAO with haste active is about the right speed.

The swing and the recovery are both far too fast. It's literally like Bioware went "Ah yes, momentum. We have dismissed this claim."
