I imagine the story might not be completed, or maybe even started, yet; but there is a point here,
In the Mass Effect series we played a singe character through three games, and really had a chance to learn the characters backgrounds, and the recurring characters in the game were great too. Spending over three years and over two hundred hours learning about garrus and tali was not time wasted.
But in Dragon Age, it appears you are a new character every time. In one you're the 'warden', then you're Hawke... Neither of these characters has anything to do with eachother and the returning characters are either cameos or were small-ish roles in the last game.
Who are we in this game? Do we have any pre-existing connection to the characters? Or are we another "normal dude thrust into the middle of the war" character?
On a side note: I would like to be an elf again, I prefer playing them to humans.

You're right, we don't know yet.

What more information are you expecting right now?

If it's a member of the Chantry, I only hope we can turn against it. The Chantry are a bunch of boneheads.

I don't who our character will be precisely, but I am hoping that at some point after this game BioWare decides to due a Dragon Age story-arc spanning two or three games with the same main character. I know some of you are going to say things to the effect of "Dragon Effect", but whatever.

I would like a character we can really get attached to the way we did with Commander Shepard. A planned multi-game story-arc could also help to address the issues some of us have with choices mattering and having real consequences that impact the world.

I agree with this completely. About the chantry and how we need a consistent character.

Whoever he or she is, I demand that (s)he follow a code. Something like work for promoting niceness; making the world prettier; sharing candy with everyone; and obfuscating the true nature of the Milkman OGB.

To be serious, though, wild mass guessing seems to be the best one can do at this point. Playing as an inquisitor would make sense, as that would automatically thrust the protagonist into the role of being a player in a shadowy organization that could (can? will?) change the world.

Our character is hopefully whoever we create. Their role will be decided by the game.

O.o

Yes, they know what the story for Dragon Age 3 will be. While I'm sure not every quest is finished or every dialogue written out, they don't pay their writers to snark at one another over twitter.

But in Dragon Age, it appears you are a new character every time.

Correct. Dragon Age isn't about a specific person but about the events of the Dragon Age in Thedas.

Who are we in this game?

We don't know, but signs point to us being a Seeker or Inquisitor.

I don't see the point in being a member of the Chantry, without having a choice in the matter. In fact, I'm not sure why the protagonist is going to be a member of an organization named after the proto-templars who caused a "reign of terror" prior to becoming organized into the Order of Templars by Emperor Drakon I.

If the survey information is to be believed the PC will be a member of the Inquisition, which has been newly formed after certain events and are tasked to primarily solve these said events in any way possible whether be subterfuge or direct conflict.

He/She though is NOT a member of the Chantry. Both organizations the Inquisition and the Chantry are believed to be separate entities.

Well, I was kinda hoping a bioware dude might jump in and drop a hint, something like " you're a random dude with no affiliation to the main characters of the last game". Nothing spoiler-y, just so I can start with what I want my character to be for this game.

Yet the organization is named after who the templars once were (and, arguably, who they are now that the Nevarran Accord has been nullified by Lambert), which would be an odd choice for a possible mage protagonist (at least a mage who was not allied with the Chantry or the Order of Templars). If the protagonist is the Inquisitor, why name your organization after the original group that hunted mages and arguably caused a "reign of terror" centuries ago?

According to their history: "Most people don’t remember the Templar Order as it once was. In the days when the Chantry was still young, templars were known as the 'Inquisition' and combed the land in search of all dangers to humanity - whether they came in the form of blood mages, abominations, cultists or heretics. It was a dark and terrifying time in the history of Thedas, and one that only ended when the Chantry convinced the Inquisition to unite under the banner of their common faith."

I understand your skepticism regarding the issue. I have them myself regarding why this new organization needs to ba named the Inquisition.

But maybe and this is complete speculation on my part. Those who have created this New Inquisition have taken the name alone in spirit but not the objective of the old Organization. That is here Inquisition dosent mean that old particular group but a gathering of powers or some such in troubled times to protect the continent as a whole from whatever ails it.

It's objectives and methods may vary from the Old inquisition but have authority from the kingdoms of thedas and the chantry to pass judgement on those who create chaos.

This is where the PC comes along, He/She could be a narrow minded Bigot for either side and can solve issues with great violence like the Inquisition of old OR he/she could be a templer/mage loving pacifist who uses diplomacy and passes fair and equal judgement on all OR all other shades in between. How the New Inquisition will turn out may well be upto us to decide. The order will be kind of  loosely like say an ME equivalent of "THE SPECTRES" having power to pass judgement and bring order to the world anyway they seem fit and have permission from the nations and the chantry to do so.

Maybe this is why we have the a warden and a seeker as companions each a representative of their faction. Or why else would a Warden decide to follow the PC all of a sudden last i know they are a neutral gruop.Cullen may well be a representative of the Templars for all we know, someone else will represent the Circle so on and so forth and decision taken on each faction may have effects on our companions etc..

Once again this is all speculation(bordering on fanfiction ) on my part and chances are very very high that I will be completely wrong

Just a thought, but maybe main character can be started on either the side of the chantry or the side of the mages, assuming they're carrying forward that plot?
I don't know, I figure they might have SOME choice in how we start our PC since this game kind of starts in the middle of conflict.
