It's about as evil as a dolphin.

Dolphins are aquatic satans.

If you listen really close before you summon the dragon to fight, you can hear that he was listening to Foghat before you came and disturbed him. So no, it's not possible at all that the dragon is evil.

If I need justification for killing the High Dragon, other than the fun fight, I tell myself it's a High Dragon and those are a menace to everything around them. According to the codex, High dragons are pregnant females who go on a rampage killing everything in sight to gorge themselves and nourish their babies.

It isn't Human and thus our human concepts of good and evil aren't really applicable. If you insist on applying them however then it is evil due to selfishness, antisocial behavior, and presumably it's penchant for murder.

It's really no more evil than a starving pack of wolves roaming an elementary school.

At least one codex entry describes dragons as simply animals. I think it's the one on dragon cults.

Assuming there aren't any contradictory entries, I'd go with dangerous predatory animal that feeds on man. Not "evil," but not evil to kill it either.

Or you could play a total brainwashed Chantry flunky and kill it for desecrating a holy site and subverting the guardians of Andraste's Ashes. Up to you.

Last time through... I felt a bit like Angel. "You take the 30,000 on the left, you take the 30,000 on the right. Me? I've always wanted to kill a dragon."

iirc from reading about high dragons in the codex, they nest for like 1000 years then after that they fly around feeding (causing trouble). I took it in me to stop it now before it killed many.

anyone find it odd that so many humans were running around with baby dragons ... I mean...wouldn't she have eaten them in her rampage?

It's explained though I don't remember exactly where. I think Kolgrim tells you. The cultists have some kind of relationship with the High Dragon where they worship her and protect her young and in return she allows the cultists to kill a few of them and use their blood and whatnot.

See crocodiles getting cleaned between the teeth by birds and cleanerfish in general.

The high dragon is so cuddly and adorable sleeping up there on the mountain. The player is the evil one for blowing the horn and waking the poor thing up .

Dragons aren't stupid. The Cult, at the very least, kept less desirable humans out. Like, y'know, dragon slayers and various adventurers. Of course she wasn't going to eat them.

I told a friend who wanted to take "Andraste" on at level 12 that he was crunchy and good with ketchup and should probably wait a bit.

As she should. Mayo is awful and ketchup is only good on hot dogs when paired with mustard.

I didn't kill the dragon. I became a Reaver. AND I'm still humping Lelilana. Story-wise, my character believed Kolgrim. The dragon is something holy, even if it isn't Andraste, but it could be. My character also wanted those cultists to join the fight against the darkspawn. Unfortunately they didn't anyway, but my character wouldn't know that.

Evil? Certainly not.

It's like calling a tiger evil when he decides to kill an intruder impeding his territory or challenging his authority, before the horn being called the Dragon probably saw you as a rat infestation but turned into a very big threat when the horn was called and thus you openly challenged it.

They drink the dragonling blood, which (it is speculated in one codex entry) makes them appear more sympathetic to the dragon.

The above is the "dragon as dumb animal" explanation.  If you believe the dragon's intelligent, then it probably just wanted the worshippers/servants.

Unless the dragon is Andraste, then you're evil by killing her.

Sorry for the offtopic:

paneerakbari wrote...

The darkspawn emerge in the world because of this, and their original numbers consist of the slaves that were sacrificed.

Where did you pick this up? The darkspawn was said to have grown after they first tainted an Old God. Surely the tainted Tevinter mages couldn't have "recruited" all the sacrificed slaves. Most of them have rotten away, besides, we don't even know what exactly happens to people in afterlife.

Here's the important part, though: the Archdemons are not dragons, nor are they natives of the Fade come into the world, they are Tevinter archmagi attempting to retake the world. They gather their power and, using the blood spilled in combat, eventually assume a body fitting their pride: a dragon.

This is not necessarily true. We don't know what ultimately happened to the tainted Tevinter mages. The tainted mages and the Old Gods existed at one point at the same time, so they were different beings. We don't know what happened when an Archdemon was born. The mages could have merged with an archdemon, but I don't believe that. Besides there are seven of the Old Gods, and right now after DA:O, two (or three if you count Morrigan's baby) still remain untainted. Does that mean two mages are "alive"?

You're making some bold claims. :)

If you look at dragons as animals then the concepts of good and evil do not apply. If you view dragons as intelligent beings then you may view them as good or evil, that does not mean that the dragon shares your concept. The dragon sees itself at the top of the food chain. Basically doing what it and its kind need to survive.

If the dragon is intelligent why not let the humans who worship it keep and keep the undesirables away.

If someone other than Korgrim blows the horn then the dragon can only assume that its position is threaten. Which means it and its kind will become hunted like in the past. Remember dragons were hunted almost to extinction. Also dragons have long lives, the high dragon could be a survivor of that time. So who is the evil one is a matter of perspective.
