so that they don't look like hideous ferret people. They looked fine in DA:O. Merill, Fenris, and Tallis were acceptable redesigns of the race in DA 2. Most of the other elves in the second game were fugly as hell.

Yes. This times 100. Merril, Fenris, and Tallis were just fine in my opinion. But pretty much all of the others make me keep saying "what the freaking crap is that thing?" over and over again. Like the elf that could work in your house in DA2. Ugh.....that was an abomination. Kinda surprised Bioware didn't see anthing wrong with that character.

Basically Un-Redesign the elves....they were fine. Why do Merrill and Fenris look like they could come out of either game but all others are messed up.

that's complicate, if well worked, the DA2 design can work pretty well, but I admit most elf characters in DA2 were weird...

I don't want them completely going back to Origins design, because that was just too human. Something in between would be great.

Of course Fenris and Merrill had better designs, they are main characters...

Haven't they said they'll look for a middle ground on the elves?

The Elves in DA2 looked horrifying. Even Merrill had issues, in that she looked like a 12 year old boy.

Going into DA3 the Elves most definitely need a redesign, particularly when the lore for DA:O described them as beings that humans often found attactive. In DA2 most of the Elves looked like this:

They didnt have the general "Na'vi" shape of face. They really did look like the elves from origins outside of the body shape when taking into account the art style.

I support the DA2 elves. Everything's better than humans with pointy ears and I actually like the new design.

She was a slave all her life. Give me one good reason why she should have looked chubby of beautiful? BW made her RIGHT! Same reason applies for Alianage elves (living conditions).

She seemed feminine enough to be considered a girl. I you think she look like a little boy, then you haven't seen 12 years-old boys for a long time.
While I didn't like much the elf redesign in DA2, she didn't look like a 12-years old girl at all. She seemed younger than her age (which in Act 1 should be 25), but not like a child.

I may have exaggerated a bit, but Merrill does have a child-like design. That compared with her child-like personality, makes her once of the worst LIs Bioware every created IMO.

Why not have designs similar to the art used for Elven or Half-Elven characters in Baldur's Gate?

That I think would represent a happy medium between the DA:O and DA2 designs. And Baldur's Gate also happens to be a Bioware game.

Two examples:

I actually like the idea of making the different races stand out more from each other. I think the qunari is the best example of how they did that well in DA2 but I agree that the look of the elves could stand to be tweaked a bit more. It may be too late to suggest it now but this isn't exactly news as complaints about the elves have been around since the release of DA2 so the DA team definitely knows about it. Will they change it? Time will tell.

I believe one of the devs said they are aiming for a design somewhere between DA:O and DA2. What exactly that entails, is up for lots of speculation. Image IPB

Im sure one of the devs said in a tweet that they were going for a medium between DA2 and Origins regarding elves.

Better.

The only real problem with elf faces in DA2 was that aside from a few, they all had sharp, angular features.
Soften their cheekbones more like they were for Merril or Fenris, and then all elves will be "good-to-go".
