For instance in Warcraft - the Night Elves looks completely unique, by being more animalistic and primal.

Ready to beg developers to abandon this nightmare and restore the beauty of the elves.

Male Night elves maybe.Chaos Lord Malek wrote...
I would rather if they try something completely new. Not the Tolkien style elves, but not the aliens from DA2 either. The guy that did Qunari (how are they called - Kossith?), did fantastic job, and if he wasn't doing Elves already (which i won't believe anyway) should design new elves as well.

The guy is Matt Rhodes, and the sad thing is that his elves look great. It's the animators who completely fouled up.Chaos Lord Malek wrote...

I don't want them completely going back to Origins design, because that was just too human. Something in between would be great.
Of course Fenris and Merrill had better designs, they are main characters...
Merrill, Fenris, and especially Tallis were something in-between the two designs. That's what they should go for. If it's too late to redesign them in DA 3, then it's certainly something to consider for DA 4.

The funny thing is Tolkien elves, at least in the literature, don't even have pointy ears nor is it ever stated that the males can't grow beards; Alan Lee depicted Elrond with one you could lose a badger in (that could be chalked up to artistic license though). They basically look like humans of other-wordly beauty and physical perfection.
I'm okay with them looking slightly non-human (the pointy ears are obviously here to stay) and having certain exaggerated features, I just don't want the uncanny valley horrors we saw in DA 2.

We were forced to expose our elven companions to blood born infections, potential sniffles, and a general lack of good hygiene due to a stylistic choice. This was a travesty.
Elven shoes in DA3. A must.

The second one looks more elf-like and it has the good mix of clean and dirt on the face.Han Shot First wrote...
Why not have designs similar to the art used for Elven or Half-Elven characters in Baldur's Gate?
That I think would represent a happy medium between the DA:O and DA2 designs. And Baldur's Gate also happens to be a Bioware game.
Two examples:

I didn't mind that they look human though. It made them bit more attractive. Maybe DAO elves body with DA2 face ?
Elves(even Elf slaves) are considered beautiful and exotic. not...odd looking

the aerie pic is a nice suggestion for face styles...
Make a less anorexic body merryl had a cute face shame for the huge eyes and the body... The body expecially in the romance cutscene was just disgusting... A shorter neck please i seen a pic of tallis watching hawke during a cutscene with the neck turned in a weird way... About fenirs... mhhhh i don't know what to say i just dislike his anime like desing..

so that they don't look like hideous ferret people. They looked fine in DA:O. Merill, Fenris, and Tallis were acceptable redesigns of the race in DA 2. Most of the other elves in the second game were fugly as hell.
They have said they are on that, they won't make them look too odd or too much like humans.

There were absolutely some really low resolution and rather disturbing looking elven NPCs in DA2. There were also a bunch of low resolution and disturbing looking human NPCs floating around in the background, too. I think it came down to time constraints. But that doesn't mean the redesign is a bad idea. The elves are further distinguished from humans. They are a bit more unique and less in the Tolkien model.

Not all the elven NPCs were bad. Jethann, Marethari, Huon, etc. were all distinctive and didn't look deformed. The elves are now differentiated from humans and I fail to see how that's a bad thing. No where in the lore does it say they are supernaturally attractive; that's something people tend to assume given the treatment of elves in other media. But the elves of the DA universe have fallen to second class citizens in much of Thedas. They live in squalor, and probably aren't fantastically attractive if only due to lack of access to decent nutrition, supplies, etc.

The bolded part above; sorry, you are mistaken. DAO's lore clearly states that humans in Thedas find elves "attractive" - maybe not "supernaturally" so - but it is specifically stated that nobles keep elves as servants just because they are so physically appealing - just play an elf female and talk with Leliana.
DAO's elves were attractive - DA2 elves were not - elongated necks, emaciated bodies, floppy ears, bulbous eyes, well the list goes on. It was an intentional redesign, according to the developers to give them a more "nature" oriented look - like deer or halla. And it failed.
Now you know...
Oh, and yes, please give them shoes - whoever thought taking away their footware was a good design decision needs to sit in a corner for a while and think about what he/she has done... Until then, no cookie!
