I was honest before, so I'll continue to be honest: I was mostly sold on this game by the m/m and f/f romance options, since I didn't much enjoy Mass Effect. (I myself am a lesbian but it was exciting to hear the game would actually have a m/m romance!) That said, I've ended up enjoying Dragon Age and have played it two and a half times since I got it as a present two weeks ago. (In my current playthrough I'm a sweet, sort of dumb mage girl.)
The first time through I wanted to be a tough, mean looking warrior man type, so I romanced Zevran. Now, I romanced Morrigan alongside him, because she's a fox. (And I quietly hoped they'd fight over me.) I almost completely ignored Leliana, never had her in my party, not even once, but gave her whatever Andraste's Grace I found and did go through her dialog options without initiating any kind of romance option throughout the game.
The m/m sex scene with Zevran is WAY hotter than I expected. Good times.
During the course of my relationships, Morrigan starts getting clingy and snipes when I snog other people and Zevran ultimately says while he could participate in an ultimate relationship, Morrigan is obviously unwilling, so asks me not to make him a cheat and I tell him he's my choice, so me and Morrigan part ways.
It's all good so far, and then we get to the end of the game...
Morrigan comes to my room before the final battle offering for me to become her baby daddy. I say some line like "Do you really expect that I'll go through with this?" Then Morrigan says:
"Why? Because of Liliana? She's blah blah blah."
Okay, well, this is annoying, considering the pretense of tensions and vague plot I had playing out with Morrigan and Zevran earlier, but, you know, bugs, mistagged dialog options...At any rate, I put a bun in Morrigan's oven and go off to fight the dragon, bringing her and Zevran with me, Zevran is suitably flirty, things are going well.
Party at the end, I talk to all my party members. Leliana has a weird option avalaible: "But does the hero get the girl?" Since we haven't even had a flirt, not that she isn't a lovely girl, this is patently out of place. Still, Zev and I have a nice chat about our future.
Beat the game. Ending happens and we start going through the "Where they are now" frames. Get to my romance frame. "Zevran chose to travel with the woman he loved...blah blah she blah blah her."
Okay, well, now it's just obvious. Bioware didn't bother to program the Zevran m/m romance through to the end.
Could we, I don't know, get this patched? I'm not saying it's a slap in the face. (A! slap! in! the! face!) Mostly, I'm used to the lazy lazy JRPG programmers of my youth where the game always fell apart in the final stretch. However, lazy JRPG programmers don't come with Bioware's claims that they strive for a high standard of quality. I mean, I'm happy, on the one hand, that the romance was there, but it sort of took the wind out of the sails there at the end.
Zevran romance shafted?

This is a known issue that is not limited to the Zevran m/m romance. The end game is notoriously borked, no matter WHO you romance or what choices you make. For example, I romanced Alistair, becoming his elven mage mistress, and the epilogue slides tagged me as a man who had romanced Morrigan. Okay...?
And you might want to check that you didn't accidentally romance Leliana. It's very easy to do. There's one conversation where, if you respond with the right line (and it's not even "flirty"), the romance is initiated. If, after that, you barely talked to her or took her out, the romance would still continue.

Thanks Gilded Age, it's always good to know they're not actually out to get us! That puts my mind at rest. Of course, that means...massive lazy JRPG endgame programming itis, then, 'ey.
I have no idea if I romanced Liliana, then. After I finished her dialog options I never had another option the rest of the game except for her to repeat her bard stories? Suppose I could try a "does not speak to Liliana run"

No problem.
It's such a good game, it's a real shame the end game and epilogue slides are so bugged. Really takes away from the overall experience, imho.
But, for a male, Leliana's romance is initiated with the conversation string: "What was someone like you doing in Lothering's Chantry?" For a female, it's when she compliments you on her hair. For those conversations, just be rude to her or disinterested (not friendly at all) and you should be good to go! Or you could just avoid Leliana; that works too.

Romances in this game are a lot like romances in high school, you have to be really really unbareably blunt about everything, to the point of tedium, or none of the other players will be able to follow your intentions. Compounding the issue is that the characters don't have any notion of the passage of time. Liliana, for example, can be romanced early and not talked to again for what must be weeks or months in real time but the next time she's spoken too, even if it's 3 treaties and who knows how many hours on the road in between later, she'll remark 'look who's sweet and attentive.'

With Leliana, if you're female, there is a conversation option fairly early on where you can ask something like 'and do you often enjoy the company of women?'. If you want to romance her, ask the question. If you don't, don't ask it and you will never be in a romance with her, no matter how friendly you get.
There are several ways to know if you're in a relationship with someone, unknowingly, and it's very easy for that to happen. When in your inventory screen in camp, flip through your companions and there is a bar at the bottom with a slider on it. Mouse over it and it will say something like 'friendly' or 'interested' or 'adore'. Friendly is good. Interested is heading towards a romance, adore or love is in a romance.
The other is to talk to them in camp. Say 'I'd like to talk about something personal', and if there's is a conversation option that says something like 'We need to break this off', you're in a romance - and you can break it off if you didn't want to be.
Not only romances are borked at the end. My one character who has finished the game, straight male who romanced Morrigan but married Anora, kept Alistair alive, performed the baby thing, Alistair stayed alive through the final battle, defeated the archdemon - and Alistair wasn't even present in the final get together. They had him tagged as 'giving his life' to slay the archdemon - which he definitely didn't.
There are so many choices you can make, so many variations, that I suppose we could've expected that things might get a little screwy at the end, but still, I hope they patch it soon. It can be pretty crushing to put so much time and thought into a character and all your choices - and have them bork it all at the end.

Kind of makes me want to wait for the patch to finish this playthrough. I mean, I assume they will patch? I know Bethesda Softworks always did pretty briskly. (My favorite being the inability to complete Daggerfall without the patch. It was cool, though, I always just ran with the Dark Brotherhood and robbed people, anyway.) Sounds like the code at the end is a wild mess, here, though. Anybody know if they've said anything about it?
