Battle reports confirm that the Volus have indeed joined the war efforts against the Reapers.

What do you think about having this new race available?

MP Volus classes fit the Story just perfectly. And I really doubt the ones who say otherwise actually played as Volus in MP.

- Volus have almost no health.
- Volus shields are as weak as in case of regular human adept.
- Volus can't use covers, and so can't grab anyone.
- Volus have no real melee attacks.
- Volus have no advanced weapon skills.
- Volus damage output is really poor.

The main feature of Volus class (both Adept and Engineer) is Shield Boost. Volus are the best support class in MP. You can literally make a bunch of some Krogan soldiers amlost invulnerable even on Gold difficulty level. All those Krogan need is to stay close to Volus and protect him from the enemies.

I don't understand why some people are calling Volus "out of lore" in MP. Volus have some military forces. They even have warships and bombers. Why can't they have combat engineers and biotics? Engineers and biotics are logical for Volus. Especially in current implementation - pure support class.

Takes some getting used to, but unlocked a Volus Adept, played with it on Bronze and it's really fun. Whoever game up with the ideas for the melee abilities is a genius.

I've been away from this game for too long.

I laughed when I first saw them, built for rolling! They are very helpful and can hold their own, so its a good addition to the team!

I like my Volus Engineer, except on Dagger, but I think that has more to do with my play style on that map.

As for the lore issue, while the volus may not be fighters by nature, when the bad guys show up on your doorstep, even the banker's got a gun, just ask the guy at the start of The Dark Knight. I also think making them UR is a nod to lore, because there aren't going to be as many of them on the battlefield as other races.

Overall, a fun class and a good addition.

Uh, "the guy at the start of The Dark Knight" isn't a banker in the same sense that your run of the mill Volus would be.

That was a mob bank. The entire point of the opening was to give you an idea of just how "unhinged" the Joker was, because he was knocking off mob run banks where they'd shoot you dead themselves.

So no. That's a horrible example and it still doesn't make the Volus any more acceptable from a lore standpoint.

Fact is, nothing lorewise can justify the Volus being on the frontlines. It was just an excuse to add something different with a paper thin justification of "support classes".

The Asari, Quarians, Turians, Drell, and Salarians would have been far, far, far better choices for a "support class" race which still made sense.

I really like playing the Volus Engineer. The abilities are great, the balance is more creative than any other character (I think), but I really dislike that it is a Volus.

I must admit that I am very vain. I do never manage to completely ignore the character I play, the gender, the style and what not.

If you look at it as designer is it not so strange, since everything carries some sort of association that DOES influence the players (including me). For instance, two character that got exactly the same cooldowns, damage, influence and other statistical abilities, will feel different if it is labeled as tech ability, weapon ability, or biotic ability. This matter, even for those that deny it most of the time by calling it cosmetics and unimportant, or even "fluff", still it does something to how we percieve things.

An added bonus is that it won't get stuck in things while using space to run (why is there still no option to diversify run and crouch/cover?).

There are presumably volus crews on the volus battleships. So at least some volus MUST have some kind of military training. Including actual fights, because there'll be instances when the enemy boards the ship, or the ship is downed but crew survives and has to defend themselves.
Think of those blobbies as the part of a relatively small, but sizable enough Volus Navy.

I'm loving the inclusion of the Volus - they're fun, different enough to the rest of the roster to add something really new and can be a really effective addition to a squad.

And from a lore standpoint, I don't see the problem. This is a galactic war that's being fought against the Reapers, EVERYBODY is fighting for their lives. That includes our wheezy little friends.

Volus have similar health and shields to a Geth character, but slightly less.

They have 3/5 the health and 2/3 the shields; I think they max out at 248 health and 825 shields, so just a bit more than what the geth have with 0 points in fitness. When you consider that the volus get less bang for their buck with upgrades to fitness (i.e. 25% more of their health+shields isn't a huge difference) than geth do, then the discrepency will probably be bigger in reality.

Adore my volus adept. He is a heal engine, and with enough spheres can cooldown enough for me to pack my harrier for damage dealing. I am not much of a solo person, but while testing a loadout for him i solo'd geth silver no problem.

They're a great addition to the game. I have the engineer unlocked and he breathes some new life into the combat. I pretty much followed a destroyer and human adept around, refilling shields and planting recon mines as I went. The game felt a lot easier than usual, think we only had one instance where someone went down.

No problem with the lore either, I don't see why it would be so unthinkable to send in a dedicated support specialist into a combat zone like the ones we have in-game. It's not like we're making a front-line unit comprised of 100'000 volus to meet a reaper army in a head-on war. These are elite teams of 4 individuals who fit the job best.

I was lucky enough to unlock both of the Volus with some PSPs today.

I've tried the Adept on several games. I love him! He plays in such a different way. Cover and melee goes out of the window (though I did heavy melee some swarmers for the hell of it). The way you play levels changes too, for example vaulting over the little wall on the right of Giant to reach an ammo box is no longer possible with the little guy. The biotic orbs are awesome too, particularly now I've boosted them up.

Plus there's the comedy element of just how dinky they are, and as said their adorable little rolls.
I'm even talking like one over the mic, for the hell of it. Actual lines from the wit of me today included:

"Everyone looks...*wheeze*...so tall! *wheeze*"
(standing next to a hack objective) "I...can't reach!"
(DamonD7 gets a bronze 10 Biotic Kills medal) "10 kills! I am a Biotic God!"

Sorry if this has already been asked.

Does the volus Shield Boost stack with the stim pack/demolisher pylon/geth turret?

At first I was pissed off with lore butchering, but I think the MP team did a good job justifying them. They're clearly not front line fighters, but since they're all space banker billionaires, they can afford state of the art technology and serve as support troops.

The engineer makes more sense than the adept though. The volus adept feels abit too much meme pandering in a "lol chuck norris" style, esp with the "godly biotic abilities" in the description.

This. Exactly this. I'm very happy with the implementation of the Volus as things stand, especially the Engineer. The Sentinel and Vanguard are several steps too far in my opinion though, especially given that BioWare have repeatedly stated Volus are not front-line fighters.

Hoping you guys have some tricks up your sleeves because I can see the Vanguard and Sentinel really annoying me, especially as we could have had a Salarian Sentinel and Turian Vanguard (OH GOD that would be so awesome) instead.

Speaking of which, what ever happened with that TURIANVANGUARDEXTRACT file found in the datamine?
