At least with the volus there's a way to explain it. They're basically dwarf-Ironman's. Billionarre playboy philanthropists. Ok, maybe they're a little light on the playboy part, but they can afford all the coolest gear and implants.
So there is some kind of plausible explanation, but really? Protheans? Doesn't mean I think it'd be lame. I think it'd be awesome to play a prothean, but it just doesn't make sense.

The thing I don't understand is how can people complain about a volus not belonging in the mp portion of the game and then ask for a prothean? There's only ONE prothean left. That's Javik. How can they put Javik in mp and have all four players possibly pick him and still say that it makes sense?

Agreed. I didn't want Volus and I don't want Protheans either.

Well, I don't know about that. I think the volus are the antithesis of tough and agressive. I think that there is a glut of cookie-cutter games in the market right now. Almost all of the really popular games of this genre have the same stoic hero beating the odds to save the world. I applaud a company that tries to find ways to shake it up a little. While unconventional and surprising, I am glad they included the volus. My previous comment was only in regards to canon and the additional stuff in Retaliation.:innocent:

Sorry if this has already been asked.
Does the volus Shield Boost stack with the stim pack/demolisher pylon/geth turret?

It's perfectly legitimate for people to like or not like what they see fit, but when someone writes a story, it's their story, not yours. You don't have to like it, but most of us playing this game very much like the story and would love nothing more than to see Bioware expand upon it, however they see fit. Some things I may well not like, but it's not my place to tell Bioware what they can or can't do (or what does/doesn't make sense), that's entirely up to them to decide for themselves. All we can do is state our desires and opinions (and many of these "opinions" people have are stated as though they're facts, which is nonsense, hence this response), and let them write their story.

There is no lore friendly way for the Elcor, Hanar, or Volus to be introduced as part of fast-traveling, lightly equipped teams of irregular forces conducting guerrilla operations against the Reapers on planets which are more or less friendly to the majority of races.
Simply put:
It's the biggest reason why all our troops, barring the Vorcha, should be wearing full environmental gear and not having the aliens with bare skin.

People really need to get it through their heads that a lore-friendly way to introduce Protheans is quite possible if Bioware desides to write one, the only thing stopping them is them not having chosen to do it (yet). Volus, Protheans, heck I'd happily take an Elcor and Hanar into battle if they let me. You guys should really stop closing off your minds to all the possibilities and assuming you know better than the people who wrote the story, you'll ruin the game for the rest of us (if Bioware is foolish enough to listen to you).

I will concede that as they have written the canon so far, having proteans doesn't work. I agree completely that all they have to do is change it if they want to. Take a deep breath Lucius... it's gonna be ok.

If you're a Bioware Dev in disguise, maybe I could take these comments seriously; otherwise this post is a prime example of someone stating opinion as though it were a fact. If your desire is to look foolish, by all means, state more opinions as though they're facts; I could use some entertainment while I wait for my laundry to be ready to move along.

I'll breath however deeply I please, thank you very much. How DARE you tell me how to breath!?

Seriously though, I just want people to stop making such complete fools of themselves, it's embarassing to think we're all the same species.

But like anything in life you can't make everyone happy no matter how hard you try to appease them.

lol the 1st time I did FB Vancouver and I had to go to a Hack Ob. with him and realized he couldn't climb cover and I had to walk ALL the way around to get up the ramp for better cover was hilarious. Had to laugh at that.
