I still can't shake the feeling that they don't really belong. The engineer I can actually see (high tech suit etc), but the adept just feels like a joke that got taken a little too far. I mean, the only Volus biotic we've seen before was hopped up on drugs and delusional, hardly seems like the foundation for a frontline soldier (as evidenced by him either getting torn to shreds by a single Asari, or knocked over by a gentle nudge from Shep).

I was agnostic on the lore issue, I save that mostly for SP. But I understood the angst and anger of those who were worried about lore. You seem to have handled it well, in the ways that I think the Volus will be played in MP.
I just got the engineer last night, I have not played it yet, but have played several matches with a Volus in my pug (either character). It was a hoot. Plus, now I know who has to carry the pizza forever more. Wow, that little bowling ball can move. Yes, I revived him a lot, but other times his "orbs" seemed to come to the rescue.
Off topic. Overall, the DLC was even more awesomesauce than the patch and I did not think that was possible. The hazard on Reactor is OK, but the one on Dagger is so freakin' cool. The Collectors are really badass and quite a challenge. The new bad guys in the other factions are also a very welcome addition. It's like having an brand new game. When the Praetorian shoots his energy beam, the sound is at a frequency that includes my subwoofer having a major role to play, it makes my floor, chair and desk vibrate. Now THAT was cool. Plus, now that "ballistic" powers are reliable for me again, I get to reacquaint myself with characters and power combos that I had mostly dropped, out of frustration. You guys really did great.
Back on topic, I hope those that so strongly objected to the Volus can come around, given how the little critter plays. Related to character rollout in general, you might want to make a little more noise about female characters you are going to roll out in the next few weeks. Not at the same level of angst and anger as the Volus rollout, but there are some players not feeling so good about not seeing new female characters. More words today on the new Asari in the discussion threads, so that helps, but if you have some new females to trot out, say Turian or even Krogan, you might want to drop a hint.
Finally, well done BioWare, well done. Across the board, to include the Volus. +1

I love my volus so much I named him Chris Priestly; after the rotund gentleman who spreads joy and happiness on the BSN. So I spread joy and hapiness and shield restoration in game with Chris Priestly the volus Adept.

No.
Volus on our current MP is like a desert warfare specialist being given a divesuit and told to wrestly with sharks barehanded.
There's a thing as economy of war. You place your assets to where they are of most use, or when you absolutely have to use them even in subpar situations, where they are th least inhibited.
Volus for that part have been evolving in a completely alien environment to where the ME3 MP takes its operatives.
Volus would fight in high pressure environments where they are at their prime and the enemy at an disadvantage when the time came to actually engage in active hostilities against armed forces.
But in the MP, that is turned around 180° and now they waddle into battle in an evironment where they are at a total disadvantage and fighting against enemies in their own prime, in environments they have specifically evolved in.
Actually Volus combat affinities and capabilities aside (which are severely lacking compared to prime-combat species like the Krogan, Vorcha, Geth and very adapt species like all other species seen in MP up to date when lore is being consulted, there is a reason they are only auxillary forces), any commanding officer that would readily send those troops into such mismatched situations would be relieved from command, if someone didn't frag them beforehand.
Also, the actual reasoning we got from the staff is an oxymoron. They said they wanted to create a pure support class, one that fights away from the frontlines. But what are those hotzones the MP operatives are being sent to, if not those very frontlines?

I think I mentioned this somewhere before. Volus in ME3 multiplayer is about as serious as this:

Which is to say, it is for the kiddies.

I had fun playing my Volus adapt. But with their health so low, it is really hard to keep the guy alive when I can't take cover. I think it is funny that you can't see over low obstacles, but if my Volus can kneel to revive a fallen teammate, why can't I kneel behind cover to avoid getting shot to pieces by a Marauder?
I'm glad someone has mentioned that tactical cloak. I was wondering how I was doing that.

Volus are great!
And it makes sense that they join the fight too. In times like that, everyone needs to help. In war with the Reapers, all lives are at stake, and you have to fight no matter if you are better at counting your money or dancing in a strip club.
It's also a good lesson for those who judge by the looks.
I'd like to add that even though volus are cute and physically weak, they are still an advanced civilisation, they have technology and clearly a survival abilities. Even though they're not able to headbutt a banshee, they can blow her up with their mines or biotic explosions or just help their teammates by boosting their shields.
And they are incredibly funny when they roll.
It was a very good idea to include volus in multiplayer. Can't wait for hanar and elcor

Battle reports confirm that the Volus have indeed joined the war efforts against the Reapers.
What do you think about having this new race available?
Playing Volus Engineer the first time had me laughing every time I set off a Recon Mine. Of the two though, the Volus Adept seems more viable having Stasis and Biotic Orbs to detonate it with. The tactical cloak melee gives the character some survivability given their relatively low health and shields, but I probably won't try silver until I top scores on bronze...and not try gold until I've done the same on silver. It'll take a litle bit to master the style of gameplay that the Volus require

Since they're almost completely suport classes, the average Volus you encounter in PUGs is even more worthless than usual. I've met only met one Volus who actually knew what he was doing. When we had a 1234 objective, he let me (the Destroyer with lots of shields) take the objective while he stood nearby and popped his shield restore when I came under fire.
Now, if you're in a private match with friends who know what they're doing, it's completely different.

The Volus can go rot in the deepest darkest hole in Tartarus whilest on fire and suffering from an ever expanding amount of salt laced papercuts.
But the abilities are nice.

It's not good enough..
... till us Krogan can use them in a Fastball Special.

I also unlocked the Adept but I've not tried to play him yet.

I really like them. I think they're great. I was never opposed to them, lore or no lore, because a galaxy-wide war affects everything living in that galaxy. I think they have been done really well, they look great, and they actually provide a couple of lol moments during the heat of battle - which can be a welcome relief!
I was playing with a good friend of mine last night, and he was trying out the Volus Engineer (I'm jelly I haven't unlocked it yet - those mines are AWESOME!) and half of the match I was spinning around going, "WHERE ARE YOU!?" lol - he was too short for me to see half of the time. I kept bumping into him because I just didn't see him. And my friend was busy trying out all the Volus dodge moves - so he was rolling up stairwells - it was hilarious. It made me laugh. That, and the fact that after wave 3 was complete, the lil Volus dude said "PAYDAY!!"
Excellent job, BioWare - thank you for all your hard work and dedication
