I'm pretty impressed with how BioWare handled this odd race overall. Yes they are very squishy, but they have so many ways to survive that it's just a matter of time before I figure out what works best in each situation.
The Volus are challenging to play, and not for those players who like to top the scoreboards. But if you like to play a support class, the Volus are for you.
To those who are complaining about the ducking in cover option; these guys only have to be super close to the cover and it acts in the same way. You just don't 'stick' to cover like everyone else, which is awesome when you are running for your stubby life. But MAN it sucks they can't jump over cover or use some of the windows for sniping positions, but that just makes sense.
I really dig the cool melee special abilities too! I remember the first time I turned on the 'short cloak', I thought it was a glitch since it happened in the middle of a firefight. Imagine my surprise when I figured out what it truly was!
About us needing mor Salarians, I totally agree. But I do not doubt for a minute that the BioWare Dev team is already on it and it's at least in the planning stage by now. Maybe we'll see them sooner than we think, who knows.
Again great job BioWare!

I wanted Bioware to create a Volus trading post where you could exchange excess ammo/gear/weapons. Only in flights of fancy did I think of taking the battlefield as A BIOTIC GOD!!. Thank you guys. Uhh.. not to be greedy, Just putting it out there.... BLASTO THE JELLY FISH and ELCOR LIVING TANKS... don't rule it out because technically Blasto is a fictional character just make Hanar Spectre, heavy melee is tentacle garrote w/biotic pulse. See I've already done all the hard work now just tell the computer to make it; that's how it works right
This One has no time for your solid waste excrement.

It's annoying as hell when squadmates follow me trying to help, but are actually undermining my ability to kill enemies

At first I was pissed off with lore butchering, but I think the MP team did a good job justifying them. They're clearly not front line fighters, but since they're all space banker billionaires, they can afford state of the art technology and serve as support troops.
The engineer makes more sense than the adept though. The volus adept feels abit too much meme pandering in a "lol chuck norris" style, esp with the "godly biotic abilities" in the description.
This. Although, I really wish they'd gone with something more realistic like the Elcor for this sort of experimentation. Walking tanks may already be covered by the Krogan and the Destroyer, but even so, the Elcor seem much more combat-ready than Volus.

I totally get why the Volus are now on the scene, and why they are 'ultra rare'. For those of you who didn't know this, the devs have already verified that the 'ultra rare' status of the Volus does not take up an 'ultra rare' weapon slot in the store, so relax.
Does it take a slot in your pack?
If yes: It's taken the slot of a potential Ultra Rare Weapon in your pack.

It appears to me that all the races presented in ME appear to have quite distinct leanings towards different classes (for instance I doubt you will ever find a Geth adept) and gameplay archetypes (ie: volus as support, vorcha as assault, asari as spellcasters, turians as soldiers, humans as jack-of-trades etc.).
Inclusion of the Volus as a playable race expands upon and encourages divergent playing styles within ME multiplayer. Unlike other shooter-type games such as CoD or Battlefield, ME's character 'classes' are determined by design of the characters themselves and not just by the equipment or 'skills' the player can use. The contrast of physical profile and abilities between a Krogan and a Drell is a great example of this.
Better yet, there can really be no limit to this system of design. Bioware can just keep adding characters as time goes on... so I’m tipping that more Salarian STG operatives are on the horizon.
I'm glad the Bioware crew did something different and I think it's a good fit within the 'galactic survival' theme of the ME universe.
I'm personally hoping to see:
- A Liberated Geth Prime,
- An Elcor Heavy Weapons Bearer
- Enslaved Marauder (Leviathan)
- Race-specific weapons to match.
If Bioware is *really* kind they’ll even give us Blasto as the 'Hanar Strangler'.

I think they took the place of something that could have been far, far better.
Why in the world introduce a joke race like the Volus when instead you could have spread their abilities (Shield Boost, Biotic Orbs, and Recon Mines) to existing races?
As it stands, we now have to wait for the Drell Assassin to come out to get Recon Mines on anything but a little bowling ball with asthma.
And for that matter:
Why in the world are there no Salarians? There's yet another Krogan, yet another Quarian, yet more Asari (which I do like the concept behind the Huntress. A Biotic Infiltrator will be very interesting to see how she plays, considering the new playstyle that the Ghost brings to the table with his Tactical Cloak Assault Rifle damage boost), three Turians, another Geth, two more Batarians, a Drell, another Vorcha...and four bloody Volus.
But no Salarians at all?
If you're going to, as one of the developers stated, "create a support class" the Salarians were the race to have gone for. Yes, you could not have done a Vanguard or Adept (at least if following the lore...but that clearly doesn't matter anymore since bowling balls are taking the field, rather than sticking to what they do best and operating the bombing fleet) but so what? We have enough "support" characters in those ranks as it stands with the three currently existing Asari characters.
And furthermore...it's still frustrating as all get out that the Human N7s are reused assets from SP, and restricted to single gender characters.
Yet, we get Volus.
I would love to hear the reasoning behind that decision.
I agree with this 100%

Elcor Biotic Charge must take down unsheilded Banshees, Brutes, etc. or just look really cool. BTW Elcor Infiltraiter with "Shadow Stomp", Materialize ten or twelve feet over the target and slam down.. Guts Everwhere:)

And I really like to have a Volus in my team. Besides that it's fun to see how they act it gives you the feeling that all species join forces against the threat.
Looking forward to unlocking the Volus Engineer.
